  1. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 08:21 PM) You have no idea what I'm going through right now watching this team. 3 things have happened thus far in September that have me scared s***less. 1.) Freddy learned a new pitch (after sucking ass for 5 months) 2.) Freddy comes out and says he thinks he'll regain his velocity over the offseason. 3.) Freddy has allowed 4 baserunners over his past 16 IP (if he does this in May it's forgotten by now but since he's doing it in September it will mean something) I'm afraid these 3 factors will earn Freddy Garcia a spot in the rotation next year. Kenny needs to keep a stiff upper lip and kick Freddy out the damn door in November, his trade value is rising and could reach an all-time high (2006-present) this offseason. Maybe it should give u hope that Freddy will be better than he ever was before. Losing his velocity could be a blessing in disguise. It takes a talented pitcher to be able to master the split finger in a relatively short period of time. He's given up 2 hits in 16 innings. He's reinvented himself. Thats impressive , very very impressive.
  2. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Sep 19, 2006 -> 06:54 AM) If the Sox make the playoffs i will buy everyone on Soxtalk a round of beer. And since i like your name JemaineDye4MVP and your foolish and far fetched hope, if they make the playoffs i'll buy you a case of any beer of your choice if they make the playoffs. So yea im pretty confident i wont have to buy anybody a thing. I wish i was wrong, but this team lost its magic months ago. Given his penchant for hope, I'd say he's less than 21 . My guess is not even over 18 yet. I'd always said I won't give up till we're mathematically eliminated but I seriously packed it in after the 2nd loss to Oakland. How ironic to have Frank and Maggs do major damage against us.
  3. Thanks J you too ! Thanks for the tix to the Angels/Yankee's game . I assume you got my check since I haven't heard otherwise. The daughter and I had fun. Tell me what you have available for the Sox/Angels series .
  4. I'd like to see some of the threads from last year during the "choke" phase of the season resurrected. Cleveland was breathing down our neck and we were playing like little leaguers. A lot of people ended eating massive quanities of crow around here. Leopards dont change their spots however and I'm sure the same people crying about the "choke" last year haven't learned a damn thing and are doomin n gloomin it again. Yes last year was magical and the odds are stacked against it happening again. I suppose its the nature of the beast to cry when things are bad and say " I knew it all along" when things turn around. Anyone with a positive attitude is ridiculed for drinking kool aid. Jason please resurrect some threads from the heart of the "choke" and remind everyone that just because 95% of the posts say we suck doesn't mean it can't be turned around. Maybe last season was a once in a lifetime occurence. Negativity is so much easier, it puts you with the "in" crowd. Most of the time you will be right so you get to say " I told you so" . After all you know damn well with one title in 88 years theres no reason to be seeing things through rose colored glasses. Until we're mathematically eliminated this will by my battlecry

  20. In a world full of cookie-cutter sports broadcasters, I will always give a big thumbs up to guys like Hawk, Steve Lyons and even california stoner surfer dude Rex Hudler. You young'uns out there count your blessings that you never had to listen to Jack Drees when he did the Sox games on TV. If I was wasn't born and raised a Sox fan I might've ended up paying more attention to the Cubs because Jack Brickhouse was much more entertaining. Lucky he did Sox games also back in the day.

  22. QUOTE(SadChiSoxFanOptimist @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 08:27 AM) No, that's not it. But to label any poster's good faith effort a the worst anything ever is a bit extreme. Debate the content, but respect the poster. Respect is a good thing..wouldn't you agree? Thanks. Respect is good but not en vogue . I simply asked a question to be debated. I highly doubt the braintrusts of the Tigers and Twins would've made these acquisitons if they thought those players would hurt them. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 2, 2006 -> 11:06 AM) I thought it was more a tongue in cheek thread starter that would have been fun to kick. It's not like Perez and Nevin are franchise players but considering Nevin's post All STar game stats against righthanders I'm sure the Twins feel he can fill a specific role. I like playing devil's advocate but I don't like being insulted by people who's only way of feeling like a man is to rip others.
  23. Big Hurt had some monster years with the Sox . No telling what his numbers would be like if he hadn't got hurt so much the last 3-4 years. I've kept a close eye on him all year and his batting average has gone up every month . He's well over .300 post All-Star break which I believe is an indication of his health and shaking off the rust . There were many on this board who were truly convinced he was through last year. Really very happy for him.
  24. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 06:31 PM) Sure because Anderson never has caught a liner in the gap. Never this year. Another thing, Anderson positions himself a hell of a lot better. And has natural instincts off the crack of the bat. The ball DeJesus hit was a screamer and wasnt all that high. Put the blame where it belongs, on Contreras.
