QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 11:07 AM) This is where it becomes tricky, due to Ozzie's refusal to use Omar for mop-up time. You could cut Frodo, but then you have no real pinch runners. Andruw could be cut, but he's your only real back up OF. Kotsay could be cut, but you lose a pinch hitter. My guess would be Frodo however. Also, if this game were at the Cell, Dayan & Rios would have 2R HRs If Vicedo sticks around and plays 3rd Ozzie has to use Omar for late inning D . No way around it really.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 10:50 AM) I am hesitant to get seriously optimistic about this team until Beckham and Quentin begin to hit consistently. I love the starting pitching we've been getting lately but I can't see our staff pitching at this level the rest of the season. We need some hitting, and if we can't get it from outside the organization it has to come from Beckham and Q. Oh I agree no team can sustain this current level of starting pitching over the long haul and i said in the Reinsdorf thread we still need a big bat preferably LH.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 08:10 AM) Yeah, I was going to say...looks like someone is coming around, eh? Yea TB was one of the most outspoken when it came to this season being over . When I suggested all it would take is a starting pitching reversal I was told " It doesn't work that way. " Of course there's still plenty of people on the " it's the NL we'll suck again once we get back to the AL" boat. I don't care , wins are good.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 03:06 PM) Full article here: http://trib.in/deADtQ SunTimes - http://bit.ly/cOdlg3 Discuss? Jerry Jerry Jerry "good enough as is " ? Maybe to beat up on weak NL teams but we need a hitter , a good one, to compete in the superior league. Every game at this point is important , sure can't depend on winning a lot of games by scoring 3 or less runs.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 09:51 AM) No he isn't. And he needs to play both righties and lefties, the kid needs ABs and putting him in a strict platoon will leave him on the bench for all but 1 or 2 games a week. I can't fathom why he wouldn't be in the lineup today. Mark Gonzales reported he'd start today. But I know now he isn't since the lineup was posted in the game thread. I agree play him against both.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 10:03 AM) This is a big problem with young left handed hitters especially. They struggle against left handed pitching in the minors then get called up to the bigs at age 24, the manager sees that they couldn't hit lefties and sits them against most left handed pitchers so they never learn how to hit left handed pitching. 4 years later you have a 28 year old who couldn't hit a lefty to save his life mostly because he was never given the opportunity as a young player. If Viciedo can't hit righties then he has no future as an everyday player in the majors, it's as simple as that. And if we called him up to hit in a strict platoon with Vizquel then we're doing him an incredible disservice. I agree but could be Ozzie just wants to get him off on the right foot against a lefty then he'll probably see more time against righties.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 11:11 AM) I know this is a fantasy baseball article, but still an interesting analysis of the Cuban Tank. So he's much better against left handers which will be hard for him to get much playing time at the major league level. He's starting today against a Nats right hander so expect some K's.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 10:53 PM) Or Wilson Betemit or Nix who was just awful at 3rd.
