  1. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 12:11 PM) Getz Bandwagoneer! LOL I love Leo Getz.
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 12:08 PM) The difference between a solid player and an average player is that an average player has 3-4 things they don't do well. Solid players might have 1-2 depending on their purpose on a team. And he's one of the better rookies this year because, sadly, this rookie class kind of sucks. I guess we're just kind of spoiled after having both Longoria and Ramirez in the rookie class last year. Some of what you based your opinion on is thinking he might someday lead off. There's a reason why it's so hard to find a true lead off type hitter these days and why they are so valuable. Very few players can hit for average, take walks, and steal bases . Might be your expectations or what you wish he was impair your evaluation.
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 11:52 AM) You say this when he's doing well, but will you say this when he's slumping or injured? Look, I want Getz to succeed in every way possible. He could be a very effective leadoff hitter down the line for this team. However, he also has A LOT to improve on and if he does not improve on these said things, he will not be a "solid" ballplayer, but just an average one at best. Here's a list of things that he should improve on. 1. Get on base more often. A .320-.330 OBP just won't do it for a possible leadoff hitter. It might be good enough for a bottom of the order hitter, but that would make him an average player at best. Get the OBP up to .340-.350 and you might be looking at a "solid" player. 2. Better plate discipline. I know he's a rookie, but he needs to lay off the high fastball. Doing so will help him in so many ways. Maybe he should bend down a bit more to lay off of them. 3. Get better on defense. At this point, he's an average defender. He's got the speed to get to almost anything, he should be better on D. 4. Reduce the nagging injuries. He really can't do too much about this one. Maybe his body's just not one that can handle the work load of playing baseball every day. He should be stretching and preparing himself better in order not to get injured. He's got the base running down so far and he's a decent hitter. I'm hoping he will address the above issues by next season so we won't have to re-sign Podsednik or spend a lot of money on a new leadoff man. Getz, right now, is a very average player. You say average I say solid. Every player has things to improve upon. He's one of the top rookies in the league. I predicted his success in the predictions thread at the beginning of the season so its not like I'm jumping on the bandwagon while he's been hot.
  4. Getz is really a very solid ballplayer. It amazes me when I see criticism of him.
  5. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 11:26 AM) Just like yesterday. Not quite the same results.
  6. Pods with the wtf baserunning goof.
  7. Pods with the intentional swinging bunt hit to lead off. Nix walks.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 07:38 PM) Ugh....the Tigers have the mojo going down the stretch this season like they did in 2006... DIE KITTIES, DIE! Maybe your voodoo curse would work better if you took a Tiger beanie baby and stuck pins in it and tore out it's eyes.
  9. QUOTE (tommy @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 06:55 PM) Is this lead comfortable enough to let Tyler catch a little? Or are we in it until calculator says otherwise? Yes and Fields too.
  10. Ok Beck time for a 3 run HR. Make it a nice round 15.
  11. Nice present of a game for Hawk .
  12. Won't get a 20 game win streak but maybe a 20 run game is possible.
  13. I said 5-5 but I'd rather predict 5-5 and be wrong than predict 1-9 or 2-8 and be right.
  14. Morales the Magnificent. Morales Almighty. Mighty Mighty Morales.
  15. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 07:14 PM) For the Twins at bats the fans will be blowing out. Hawk and Stone just brought it up after I posted.

  17. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 07:01 PM) You can tell the Sox are toast just by the lack of posts in a losing thread... there are normally more in a losing game than a winner. Kind of sad really Hardly any love for the Beck HR either.
  18. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 07:01 PM) You can tell the Sox are toast just by the lack of posts in a losing thread... there are normally more in a losing game than a winner. Kind of sad really That's because when the Sox are winning there's not a bunch ( Beckham! ) people saying Game ova ( in a positive way) or this. team. is. the. best.
  19. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 06:42 PM) Having Scott Podsednick as your DH is basically telling everyone we are shooting for a 60 to 70 win season. I don't think that's necessarily true. But it's a discussion worthy of it's own thread.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 06:43 PM) That ball was not going to be caught anyways. Terrible route, but that was a triple no matter who was playing CF. I'll respectably disagree. Neither one of us really know if Rios would have had it but 3 or 4 step laterally before you start going back isn't a good thing.
  21. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 06:11 PM) Who wants to bet he goes 7+ innings, giving up less than 3 runs? No takers??? Come on, easy money for you guys with how our offense is RAKING. The groundskeepers are the only ones raking .
  22. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 06:11 PM) danksy cat pitching his ass off. throw a shut out for nine and rub it in the offense's nose. guess not
