  1. Oh I got it ! I got it ! Eloy is an experiment. If their development people can raise Eloy from the dead and change his stance, make him hit fly balls and keep him healthier they will know they are bathing in the light of the goodness of the baseball gods. It's just too bad the gods frown upon being tested in such a way . It's a sign you are getting greedy ,tempting your fate and they shall suffer for it.
  2. If you see the Sox spend anything next year it'll just be an upgrade from $1- $5M slugs to $6-12M slugs. That won't make them any more likely to succeed . It's just more expensive window dressing picked by a guy handpicked to fail by our magnanimous owner. Unless JR fires Getz to make it appear he's not happy about the terrible reason. But JR is usually loyal to his pets.
  3. Thank you for your participation watching the demise of our franchise as the fans desperately clawed at the Orioles prospects while the O's continued to make smart baseball decisions until now . Never bring over a cursed player from a loser franchise. I'll say I'm sorry for the current group of Os fans that they will never see a Championship with all your wonderful position player prosects but thank you and your franchise for throwing the Sox a bone even though you have unwittingly doomed yourselves.
  4. You actually think one is separate from the other ? The awful roster is a result of JR slashing payroll and using Getz to execute his wishes. You may have kept telling everyone the franchise is losing money but how is it JR has so many big plans going forward with the whole planned partnership wih the Wirtz family to build his sport conglomerate with the Bulls and Blackhawks while preparing the Sox to be sold. This is all JRs I'll be exiting the world soon strategy for his heirs. He's smart enough to legally cook his books to show massive losses while at the same time funnel money into his projects. And you wonder why Getz get can't get any good trades done. He's not getting any good offers. The Sox are bleeding among a huge school of piranhas. Hire inexperienced GM to execute his plan and tell the world it's to expedient the return to competence. The whole time that was BS. The Reinsdorfs of the future will stricty own the Bulls. Just have to wait and see if baseball is really interested in keeping the franchise in Chicago as much as some seem to think. By the time this whole plan is executed the whole country may be in bigger economic turmoil more than it is now. The divide between the haves and have nots is deepening.
  5. Caulfield I hope you are ok. I think you should relax and take it easy. I believe you buddy. I do think there is a slight chance you have mistaken Robert, Jr for Robinson. Sounds like your meds are a little strong. The outburst is not like you. Edit: Apparently you were right but very few people saw it.
  6. I love WSDave's article. Best, most honest interpretation of what's going on. As I've said a few times. Getz and the Sox were like a crackhead trying to sell expensive items stolen to support their addiction going from pawn shop to pawn shop getting low balled everywhere. And if true passed up deals in their own division for no apparent reason.
  7. Just saw the Sox were up 5-2 headed into the 8th so thought I'd find the game on my PC and see how they will blow it. 1st thing I see is the back 2 back HRs by Renfroe and Melendez ?
  8. JR of today and the last few years is a JR preparing his money and legacy to live on through his heirs by investing in the area around the UC partnering with the Wirtz family. The JR of today has flat out said the Sox cannot compete at their current location because the area around it is not the sorts mega complex luxury mall , urban paradise needed to do that. The Sox will be sold by his heirs . The Bulls will be kept and all three will be on his new network deal if he can manage to get that off the ground. The Sox are now only worth minimal attention and investment and the bare minimum to keep Manfred off his ass. The rest of baseball smells blood in the water and are treating Getz accordingly. The only thing keeping the Sox from getting terrible offers on Fedde is competition from other teams but even then Baltimore took Eflin who had bigger money owed to him ($18M in 2025) and dealt with a division rival over Fedde and the White Sox. They traded with the contending Phillies by trading Hays to fill their Relief pitching (Seranthony Dominguez) and Defensive OF / PR role with Pache while counting on Cowser/ Kjerstad/Pache to replace Hays and the slumping Mullins . It's possible the Orioles and Phillies could face each other in the World Series while helping each other get there . All the Orioles trade pieces to the Rays for Eflin were all from the 2023 draft. So they took on the higher money owed Eflin ($18M in 2025) rather than give up the higher headlining prospect for Fedde. They also risked those 3 players contributing to TB teams that are possibly better than future Orioles teams.
  9. It doesn't necessarily have to be the whole $50M
  10. Because you keep talking about Getz and Getz supporters . So you don't seem to understand once again there are no Getz supporters only those who see Getz as nothing more than a twig on the Redwood that is Jerry Reinsdorf.
  11. Could it possibly be that other GMs because of Jerry crying poor are treating Getz like a crackhead trying to sell a Rolex in a pawn ship ? The offers for good returns are just not forthcoming. They may seem like easy trades but I'm almost certain there's going to be a lot of complaints about the return when those trades are made . More and more were seeing a team like Baltimore try to sell off its expiring parts like Hayes , Mullins , Mountcastle or Santander to bring up their youth. That goes along with a lot of talk around baseball of contending teams light in one area trading with other lesser contenders strong in certain areas trading 26 man roster pieces kind of like how the Cubs got Paredes. Morel lessened the prospects they'd have to give up.
  12. You still don't understand that if Benintendi is attached it's because of Reinsdorf. How can you not understand yet that Getz is a pawn on JRs chess board. How is that not plain to you yet ?
  13. I thought that too until I came to the conclusion that JR isn't treating the Sox like a baseball team that should be doing things to get better but more like a company that will be sold to finance his other ventures which will be in the hand of his heirs once he passes. Benitendi is a debt that needs to be removed.
  14. Works the c*** to 3-1 then proceeds to swing and miss on 2 straight out of the zone pitchers. WTH Luis ?
  15. It's a nice return for a reief pitcher but doesn't look like the kind of return that would entice the Sox for Fedde. Lesko has promise but Padres probably not enamored with his results thus far. Also a pitcher and catcher in the return which seems to be a running theme in prospects given up in many trades. Tough to pry high level INF and OF prospects as a headliner and Getz has to be stressing that. All 3 players A+ and lower level guys
  16. Was nice to see Baldwin go 3 for 4 with 2 doubles.
  17. Attempt at a joke as if he's got Crochets limits ? Fedde has plenty of innings under his belt just last year in Korea.
  18. My my my how things have changed since the Heyman report. It's still looking to me and our esteemed Soxtalk owner that while what Heyman wrote was true may have successfully manipulated the market enough to scare off some GMs. Heyman sat on the info for days. The closer to the deadline you release that info the less time it may give the Sox time to complete a trade with another team and may have effectively lowered offers and delayed things for a day. Of course now Joel Sherman says hey there's still a market out there for Crochet. Of course Rosenthal and Nightingale followed suit. Even Passan in his initial lengthy report analyzing the impact of the Heyman report said it's caused some damage to the attempts to trade him but still not impossible. However he did not implicate Heyman in any way. Dude just doing his job right ? He just happened to sit on the info for 4 or 5 days. Crochet trade market effectively manipulated for a day and more than likely offers reduced by any remaining interested teams, supposedly still the Dodgers and Padres. No East Coast teams involved . I really hope the Dodgers get Crochet and the Yankees get eliminated .
  19. Lol totallymisrepresenting what I said when you can quote my posts on any subject. I said Joel Sherman echoed my thoughts on Crochet. That means we came to the same conclusions not that he stole his idea from me. He's a major sportswriter who makes pretty regular appearances on MLB baseball discussions panels who been around baseball for years. He used sound analysis and baseball logic to reach his conclusions just like I did. I just said before he did. It's all right here on Soxtalk. Now Rosenthal and Nightingale are saying the same thing. Crochet market still active. Still will be hard to trade him like it's always been and the Dodgers were one team I also mentioned the most as the most likely to still have interest in him. Most of the stuff following Heymans report was negative with one GM reported as saying why would you want him if he can't pitch in the post season which was always pretty unlikely to happen. But some teams could be willing to accept that risk. Instead of telling hey you were spot on you chose to fabricate the intent of my post. Anyone can read what Sherman wrote and what I wrote about that article. I even gave the link to it. All my posts on the subject are also easy to find starting with the poll of who we thought would be traded.
  20. What's a baseball person and you have polled them ? Let's at the very least stop projecting your thoughts into competent baseball people as if you are one of them. Your hyperbole is ludicrous.
  21. It's the usual backwash from the backlash. It's kind of is a big obstacle , but so was trading him while expecting a big return for a guy not likely to have enough left in the tank to be the same pitcher he's been up to this point. Rosenthal is just echoing what Joel Sherman of the NY Post wrote this morning which echos almost exactly what I've been posting for at least a week. Sherman's NY Post article https://nypost.com/2024/07/26/sports/dodgers-best-positioned-at-trade-deadline-to-meet-garrett-crochets-demands/
  22. You forgot to add the MLB anti tanking draft rules and JRs focus on building a real estate empire around the UC and fund a new stadium complex in the South Loop that may severely impact the amount of money JR is willing to let Getz spend again next year or for several years. There's also JRs dumping NBCSN for creating his new version of the failed Sportsvision from many years ago .
  23. They don't sign Tier A free agents anyway or Tier B for that matter. While I agree that the Sox are likely not to send him down to get back the extra year but he's worth more if they do. But it's not like they wouldn't have a legitimate reason to do so. They've had plenty of opportunities including the beginning of this year to do it. Instead they worked with Garrett saw he was making great progress because of changes to his pitch repetoire by adding the cutter which Crochet adapted to beautifully and cutting back on his sweeper. Every opportunity was given to Garrett to pitch in the major leagues and it's because of that, that he is destined to become a very young FA and possibly have an opportunity to makes hundreds of millions of dollars. The Sox have very few assets worth very much and Crochet and more likely his agents torpedoed most possibilities of a trade. I hope Crochet's agent made him aware that the Sox could send him down and gain another year of control back before they blew everything up with the extension controversy. Otherwise he's been poorly handled by his agency who got greedy and tried to get their cut of Crochet's impending riches a bit early.
  24. I understand where your coming from. I also am aware that the Sox did likely lowball him. JR wasn't going to approve of a $100M extension for a guy with his injury and pitching history. I actually agree a low-ball offer would be appropriate if they gave him a modest extension with an opt out built in. He still has 2 seasons to pitch before he reaches Free agency. That's not nothing for a guy with his injury history. He has no leverage to get a large extension especially when the Sox could use their leverage to make it 3 years before he reaches Free Agency.
