I understand it's easy to put labels on prospects based on nothing more than the word of a stranger on a board. We argue over versatility vs. leaving them at 1 position or switching them to another position vs how it affects their hitting and if they should play now in the MLB or give them more MiLB time. Just sit back and watch it unfold . Relax enjoy watching baseball . No matter what you do if they end up hitting in MLB it was the right decision. If they don't hit everything you did defensively was wrong. Often one has 0 effect on the other or its impossible to know . We can all argue til we're blue in the face about bad development or just tools never would've translated no matter what. Those are arguments I will never believe. Why things happen or how much development helps are impossible to know. Right place, wrong time, wrong coach ,right coach, anxiety, work ethic, trial and error, attitude, injuries all play their roles

Now this is more like it. There should be no talk of our market size or JR will outspend division opponents. Just remove JR from the equation. The future of the franchise is a big ? . Can't count on much of anything right now.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. Very few want to hear it and refuse to see it. You're not saying it'll succeed.There's no way to know that or how long JR will live or even how long Getz remains . It's baby's 1st steps with toys on the floor and an old rug.

I don't think his plan is play the future. I think it's to delay that as much as you can. I think the Project Birmingham in 2023 and the Barons championship in 2024 is part of what he's thinking . He wants as many prospects to grow together as possible. Now you have to play some like Sosa and Vargas because they are out of options. I think he wants other guys to force the issue and they will start the year in the minors , whoever it may be. No need to start the clocks on guys . He wants competition but will be trying to preserve service time and options for as long as he can . Maybe that's why he picked up Perez , Rojas, Tauchman, Slater and lots of veteran arms. He still wants to churn the minors so he hopes to flip 5 or 6 guys and he'll look for a lot more in lower minors now . Sox in the Basement podcast has been spouting that Getz has a plan and it's a lot like what I've been talking about which is build the foundation , create minor leagues depth, create competition, grow together. They start off saying Getz was handed a crap sandwich and it's pretty much the same things you hear on Sox Machine with the occasional "not sure what he's doing in this instance" stance.

Watching 35 games in a year in which he didn't hit well possibly due to injuries may also effect his fielding.I wouldn't put much stock in it.

Yep not like he's racking up WAR as a defender or base runner and we're going "damn if only he could hit he'd be great."

JR is stripping the team of debt for potential buyers for when he passed away and Michael Reinsdorf sells the team. He's not selling the house furnished.But he may be able to tell the buyer that it's got a good foundation.

Yes that would be a miracle for 2025. It might be for 2026 also. Lots of young arms as well as young bats would have to start doing well from the get go and fairly good health too. And some breakouts that were unexpected. It won't come easy. You know it won't come easy.

Basically I just made that post to give anyone interested ( including me because I honestly always forget a few of them) seeing all the possible arms to choose from already for the 2025 BP. that's why I didn't mention Cannon, Thorpe, Burke and Martin and didn't mention Hagen Smith or Schultz until the end as other possible pieces that could get time in 2025 on the Sox. Its just baby steps towards building a better team going forward if you can build the bullpen better. It's hard when you're working with a bunch of no names but thats what Getz got Bannister for since he wasn't getting any money from JR. It sucked last year and it'll suck this year. But they're trying to find a few keepers in the pen and also flip a few. Don't expect miracles.

My post was a joke. Took that whole Bowden tweet that came without punctuation and added punctuation to make it look like the Sox were still in it. I actually don't care where Sasaki goes if it's not the Sox.

I never said the starting staff wasn't going to have Hagen Smith or Schultz at the top of the rotation did I ? All I said is that there's a lot of arms and decent arms to choose from for the BP. I have no idea why you mention pitchers we no longer have. That's ancient history right now. I wasn't even talking about the starting staff , just the BP. It's like you were responding to a different post.

You could read it this way. Teams that are still in on Roki Sasaki : Dodgers, Padres, Cubs, Yankees , Mets. Rangers maybe. Giants not. The White Sox , others, could be added to list. I didn't change a single word. Just added punctuation. Sox still in it ! 👍

They already have more than 20 arms they could use in 2025 in the pen between guys from last year on the 40, guys they've added to the 40 after the season and guys not on the 40 but good enough to get a shot based on their years in the minors. He seemed to do pretty well while it was happening .Sometimes there is pain or other issues with late growth spurts but it's probable he grew in the off-season and had no trouble with it in season.

They can always get that time back.

It's the reason why the farm is ranked as high as it is. There's at least 5 guys not even in our top 30 who had good RP years in AA and AAA .Some older (26) like McGough and Schoenle . I know the recycle bin is pretty full too so we'll see what happens .

This is undoubtedly true and he's investing his savings on propping up the Bulls and Blackhawks by investing in the real estate around the UC with whichever Wirtz is running the Hawks. I am however still keeping a sideways eye on the 78 project even though most of us seem to think it's dead. But Lip has a source who seems to think it'll get done. Not that I believe in fairy tales but maybe something rises from the ashes eventually.

Whoever wrote it sure seems to know what he's looking at and the changes he thinks could lead Gilbert to be more effective against RHH. Of course suggested changes are not easily mastered which is always a problem with projects. But if his changes are in line with Bannister's thinking I guess we'll find out.

Was it me ? 🤣 Just a joke buddy. I have no idea what, if anything ,I posted about it. Normally I like to be optimistic about approaching seasons but I remember really liking Semien as a hitter .

My comment was not so much or really at all about the Giants. It was more about what we've been seeing in MLB even at the TDL where 1 or 2 rentals for the rest of the year or a piece like Fedde for 2 playoffs is greeted with I'll give you my crap. There's one reason and one reason only that the Crochet deal was better than the Cease deal so I don't know why people keep comparing them .Cease had a down year and Crochet had a great breakout year. It's more and more about what have you done in your last year. Pitchers, catchers, 1st baseman is all what some of these teams seem willing to part with . Cleveland and TB seem to make it work with pitching. Right now that's the only way for the Sox just to get back to .500 .That's why pitching decisions are crucial and getting guys with multiple options left so you can bounce guys up and down all year long among the many who have a shot this year. The older guys already on the 40 with less options get the 1st crack at it. Whether we like it or not Getz is still seeing if he can acquire some assets dumpster diving pitching and turn them over. It's not much better than it was last year. You're down to Robert , Vaughn and Benintendi among the position players ,with Robert being the only one who could bring you a decent position player prospect if etc etc. I think Getz isn't in "just play the kids" mode quite yet with the pitching staff unless they are on the 40 already. He's trying to see if Bannister can get something from Shane Smith, Marinaccio, Bryse Wilson, Steve Wilson,Justin Anderson, Cam Booser, Tyler Gilbert, Fraser Ellard, Gus Varland . That's 8 guys right there .Maybe Shane Smith Starts ? There's Shuster, Penn Murfee, Jesse Scholtens,( if he's healthy , Berroa, Jordan Leasure. Then there's the AAA starters on the 40, Nastrini,Eder, Ky Bush,Iriarte and maybe AA guys Juan Carela and Wikelman Gonzalez. There's 24 pitchers on the 40 . The only ones I haven't mention are 4 of the likely starting pitchers. There's also not on the 40 ,26 yr. old Trey McGough who pitched well in Charlotte and Richmond who was the pitcher the Sox got from the O's for Eloy. Other arms not on the 40 among RP who had good seasons in AA or AAA , Addison Coffey, Garrett Schonele, Peyton Pallette and AHT ( Anthony Hoopii-Tuionetoa ) who was the pitcher from the Grossman trade. That's a hell of a lot of potential arms for 2025. That's also without Schultz or Hagen Smith .

Prospect hugging is a thing. No doubt about it. A trade for you top of rotation starter or superstar OF should hurt although Tucker was just one year so not as much. Even Boston really didn't feel any pain because they kept their 3 best prospects . Of course fans want to keep them all. We cry over an 8 th round RP being traded because of the process even though we know the trade was likely insignificant .
