You have to factor in Liam but not Clevinger since you can't lose what you never had.

Plus they lost a hot hitter for 43 games in Elvis Andrus. I saw the Sox winning percentage with Andrus in the line up was .528 and that's with him being in the lineup every day of the 8 games losing streak from Sept 20- Sept. 28. Only in 3 of those games did he have a hit. He may have contributed more than even Anderson at his best would've in that time span that they had him, both offensively and defensively. He basically gave the Sox close to 2 fWar in only 43 games. From Aug 19th when they got him to the end of the season, he arguably was the Sox position player MVP.

It's just Jerry sticking to his budget. He'll probably wait to see if Clevinger is suspended to free up any money. By then it'll be too late unless he gets a heads up from the league that a suspension is likely coming. The team being in a position to succeed is, has been, and will continue to be, secondary.

Colson Montgomery moved up from their last list from 57 to 38. Oscar Colas moved up from 95 to 85. https://www.mlb.com/prospects/2022/top100/ Guardians have 7 in the Top 100, Twins 3 , Tigers 3 , Royals 1 The guy I find most intriguing is Andrew Painter 19 years old ,wasn't in Top 100 last years list that came out in March then went to 24 in the August list and is now 8th and the Phillies are talking about opening the season with him in the rotation. Also Tim Anderson is #9 in MLB Networks Top 10 SS. He fell out of the top 10 in fan voting.

I'm counting 24 hitters and 19 pitchers - 3 position players that pitched which would be 40 but some probably already had been promoted to get to the 36 you said. That's a lot of guys and then you add another 20+ . I would assume some who may be on their 3rd or 4th DSL season will be let go but when you're talking 16 years old and up on those teams I would think you have to give them time to learn and physically grow . SOme will also be promoted too but it just sounds like too many for 1 team.

With the chances of the Sox IFA signings perhaps reaching as much as 20+ this period eventually, do you think there's a chance the Sox actually add a 2nd DSL team ? I don't know how many players are allowed on the rosters of DSL teams but if its capped at around 25 wouldn't that mean a good amount of DSL players get promoted to A ball to make room for the new ones. Isn't it pretty normal for most DSL players to spend more than 1 year in the DSL ?

I think it's 18. BA had Hernandez and Ysalla on their list which made it nine and Hernandez and Ysalla are on this list also so it would be 9 from BA + the 11 announced here - the 2 who appear on both lists Hernandez and Ysalla. Or you can go by the Sox announcements which listed 7 earlier signings + the 11 here.

Nice ! Baseball America hasn't updated their page on those signing yet. If I am correct I believe the total is now 18 players signed by the Sox so far and some Cubans still left .

It wouldn't be a bold prediction if I limited him to just being better than Sheets.

My bold prediction is Colas won't even be close to stinking. He could be among the best hitters the Sox have and the best overall Ofer when you throw in the assists he should pile up while runners test him.

There was the potential for a window but with the same guys in charge who didn't know how to create a winner it's days were numbered. Toss in Covid and the lockout smack dab in the middle of it, the TLR hiring and seemingly allowing him to call the shots on acquired players so much that they signed an injured reliever (Kelly) and the 3 or 4 core players expected to be very good not being very good and constantly injured just flushed it down the toilet. Eloy ,Robert Moncada the main culprits among the MIA in one way or another. Kopech TJS too. They were propped up by the cheap signing of Rodon for a year and when he was fatigued the 2nd half of 2021 then allowed to leave without a draft pick and no attempt to resign him that threw 2022 into the blender. The whole Kimbrel saga didn't help things entering 2022 either along with the usual Eloy, and Robert injuries and Moncada dinged up all season and acting like baseball was foreign to him when he did play. Anderson also MIA in 2022 along with Gio and Grandal. Let's not forget Vaughn and Sheets forced into playing the OF also along with completely ignoring the need for LH position players and now suddenly remembering this year because of the poor play of Moncada and Grandal.

Good post Jack. This is something that should've been done long ago before they committed to a rebuild they should have committed to the infrastruture. That meant update analytics, biometrics having 2 DSL teams so you have the ability to draft 20 IFAs per year, scouting and development staff . I don't know if that's what Houston did while they were tanking but it sure looks like they rebuilt from the ground up and they have reaped the benefits. The initial investment might be sizable to do these things but once in place it's mostly the salaries of the scouting and development people along with the salaries of the minor league players. I'm not going to pretend like I know all expenses involved but you make a budget for that like anything else and if it's $10M in theory per year you adjust along the way to how much it is in practice. The problem is JR thinks he know how to run a baseball team. He doesn't . As someone else said he loves to draw arbitrary lines in the sand. Get a pipeline going that consistently brings in young talent and the equipment and people to support them and if it comes from the MLB payroll so be it. Once the system is in place you just keep the wheels greased and poach the executive talent from other teams who have been successful at it. JR, who says he hates to pay for potential, is missing the whole point of how to run a consistently winning franchise. You're paying peanuts for potential. You're paying through the nose for your own and upper managements bad decisions .

At this point there's no window. The franchise is a hot mess.

I have no problem dealing from a position of depth even though the quality of that depth is unknown for a position of need. I just prefer minor leaguers traded for minor leaguers rather than a no hit all glove type veteran. The Sox are in no position to acquire guys who can't hit. They are in a position to see who among the infield depth is useful.

I'd be shocked if this went down. Sox have Sosa, Romy, and Yolbert Sanchez. If they want a glove guy who can't hit why didnt they bring up Yolbert last year. He's going to be 26 soon . 2nd base is the one position they have cheap depth at the upper level . Why give up a player and pay more than minimum ? It's ridiculous. Or trade from that depth to get another arm or an OF who could be useful and cheap stuck in AAA. Cespedes and Yolbert can get you something useful. Try using your own depth.

You could probably make a Top 10 list of all the mistakes the Sox made since the middle of the season 2021,maybe more if you take not getting more left handed into account and gross negligence of the minors and tools for player development, which goes back before 2021. Extend it back farther into the rebuild years ,Multiple training staffs due to massive amounts of injuries to the core, TLR, Kimbrel/Pollock that whole mess, Cesar Hernandez, Kelly,Diekman,Madrigal, Collins, Fulmer, Leury contract, Moncada extension, Rodon mess , Shelly Duncan, multiple changes among exec in charge of player personnel development, the RF suck fest, 1st Basemen in the OF, not taking IFA seriously for building a talent base. I know I'm forgetting things. Then throw in Covid , the lockout and its been really messy since the initial trading for prospects to start the rebuild.
