  1. If the Sox have any moves left in them, it's going to be dumping Kimbrel's salary in a trade because they could still use the money for Manaea's $9.75M arb. salary . This is the round peg in the round hole move. Oakland just has to cooperate and it appears the Twins are the main competition so the Sox might have to pay Oakland's price. While most here expect the playoffs again, there are easy to see scenario's in which the Sox older pitchers regress in both the rotation and the pen and the younger pitchers don't show as much as hoped along with injuries.
  2. Yes they are ready to get a rental. If they can dump the Kimbrel salary and even eat $4-5M of it that frees up money for Manaea's $9.75M. Lynn was a rental in the window. This is exactly what I think they are trying to do. They need to stop pussy footing around and just rid themselves of Kimbrel as long as it frees up his money. Refusing his option would've accomplished that already.
  3. Anything that gets the Sox Bellinger for Kimbrel I'm down. I just think the Dodgers are too smart to trade Bellinger at a low value. They could just start telling GM's that they want to trade him and look for much better offers than a high priced down side closer and a often injured guy who plays a great OF.
  4. Kimbrel is an anchor around everything White Sox right now. I don't pretend to know what's happened to Bellinger. His 1st 3 years, the NL couldn't find a way to pitch him. He's still 26 yrs old , a former MVP, Gold Glove type OF and 1st baseman with a ton of power and Oh yeah he's left handed and has 2 years left. Sox would probably have to throw more into the deal and even if the Dodgers offered Bellinger , I'm not even sure the Sox would take him because of his salary. We have no idea how the Sox are planning their budget for the rest of the season and next season.
  5. Was Lynn for Dunning a fair trade ? Prior to that trade for the previous 2 seasons combined Lynn led the majors in starts and innings and was 2nd to DeGrom in WAR. He was a rental. Technically it was Dunning and Avery Weems for Lynn. Lynn final season had an $8M contract attached to it. Dunning was the 5th rated prospect in a strong system. What's the best thing we can say about Manaea ? He's a good reliable starter . Is anyone in Oakland panicking because he's given up 6 runs in 6 innings this spring ? Oakland obviously wants as much as they can get for him and taking their sweet time. Maybe they want pitching back in which case Vera might be their most valuable prospect and he hasn't pitched any official innings for the organization yet has he ? Burger will be 26 very soon but he's ready to step into a starting 3B role with a team that just dumped their starting 3rd baseman. Manaea is a rental. Burger is ranked 6th in a weak system but he hits the ball hard and far. Throw some names out there . Montgomery, Rodriguez, Kath, Cespedes ? Are 2 top 10 prospects in the Sox system worth it ? Maybe throw Adolfo in with Burger. He's technically the Sox 10th rated prospect but won't be for much longer since he's likely to be done soon. Right now they are the 2 best power hitters on the Sox farm.
  6. What's that like the 8th HR by the Angels today ?
  7. The price for Manaea keeps going up and the price of Kimbrel keeps going down,
  8. Between Cespedes, Colas and Adolfo those are some very strong OF arms.
  9. Cease 3 innings 1 R , 1 H, 1BB, 5 K against mostly Seattle's regulars.
  10. Gonna go all Caulfield here and say if Yermin got a burger named after him so can Burger. The Everything is Jake Burger burger.
  11. But getting $15-$18M for 3yrs. might be in his best interest if he can get an opt out after the 2nd year. I'm not sure he gets an opt out after the 1st year with the draft pick attached. If he signs for 2.5 months for $10M then he had better be pretty good in that 2.5 months or WHAM! his value takes another hit.
  12. Me too which is why I think him waiting would be just another in a series of blunders by him. After all who's going to pay him for a full season if he only plays half a season ?
  13. That would be just another in a long series of Conforto decisions ruining his value. But I suppose at this point he might as well go full force into the prideful " I have too much confidence in my abilities to settle on what I'm being offered " mode.
  14. Right ? He made a series of decisions that just trashed his value and is trying to recover his value or still thinks he's more valuable than he is. He didn't get vaxxed, then got Covid. He rejected the $100M offer from the Mets either before or close to the time he got Covid. Then had a bad 2021 and refused the QO. Add that all up and the possibility he still isn't vaxxed, has a draft pick attached to him and you get why he is still available.
  15. If he sucked with the Sox the crow eating would be reversed. If they still don't get him I don't think anyone will be shoving sweet crow down anyone's throat. (OK maybe it will happen to a degree). People differed on his worth in the FA market from the beginning or if he was even as perfect a fit as others thought .Debating it is fun. Some will be right and others wrong. Nothing to feel superior about either way. Optimism vs. pessimism. Giving the owner and front office the benefit of the doubt as opposed to not doing that is all it boils down to.
  16. Notorious Cub fan Bill Murray played Frank Cross a selfish, obnoxious and cynical TV executive in the 1988 movie "Scrooged" , a modern adaptation of the Dicken's classic "A Christmas Carol."
  17. You of all people should know that Comiskey is to Reinsdorf as Jacob Marley was to Scrooge ! If you want I can explain why Bill Murray plays Reinsdorf too
  18. Right the Comiskey ghost is akin to the Jacob Marley ghost who is the 1st ghost to visit Ebeneezer and just as misery and greedy.
  19. Jerry Reinsdorf has a Press Conference and says he was visited by the ghost of Charles Comiskey and the Ghosts of St. Patrick's Days Past, Present, and Future . Signs Conforto, trades for Manea and Montas. Sox win the World Series. Bill Murray plays Reinsdorf in the movie version. And Tiny Tim Anderson, the World Series MVP, says God bless us, everyone !
  20. Man, you're so right. What was I thinking?"
  21. Burger 2 run HR S. Sheets was the guy on base with a walk.
  22. Dom Smith HR but Giants keep pouring on runs.
  23. Outside of his arm, I have no idea how he fares defensively.
