  1. I can see Conforto for the OF and I love Schwarber's bat now that he's a bit more selective but he would add to our collection at DH. Pederson , no. I like Gavin Sheets. Steamer has a nice projection on him. Decent walk rate, not terribly high K rate. Plus power and can go the other way. He did extremely well in his 191PA appearance sample size, 12 HR ,9 doubles and 21 of his 44 hits were extra bases. That's a nice percentage resulting in a high ISO.
  2. I look for any big name who is going to be signed before Dec.1 to sign between the 28th and 30th .
  3. Probably why looking at projections isn't a big thing for me. It just looks like they take the whole career to the current point in time . Like with Eloy he has had so many injuries and had negative value defensively that in his time with the Sox he hasn't been as valuable as Moncada was in 2021. Steamer has Moncada at 3.9 and Eloy 2.5 so use Steamer instead .
  4. Sorry Ronnie. I just try to put myself in his position. He's worked hard to get to where he's at now , a lot harder when you consider the length of his medical rehabilitation. He'll continue to work hard on his fielding. He may not ever have good range but reflexes are more important at 3rd. What makes you think he's average at best and probably below average ? Just like with the bat fielding can also improve. You notice I didn't say he could play 2nd.
  5. I think the Sox have internal options to fill 2nd that might be a year away but Burger isn't one of them. Yolbert Sanchez will be 25 in March , hit very well in AA and with the Glendale Desert Dogs so the Sox seem to be accelerating his push up. I expect to see a lot of him in Spring Training even if the Sox go outside the organization for a guy for this year. Then there is Jose Rodriguez who is only 20 and might be the best position player the Sox have had at that age since Luis Robert. There's also 25 yr old Romy Gonzalez who crushed his way through Birmingham and Charlotte and made his MLB debut with the Sox. He's a solid 6'1 215lb power hitter. He only got 60 PA at Charlotte but tore the cover off the ball in that SSS. If the Sox make any trades they may include 1 of these guys or Burger for that matter.
  6. What about Jake Burger makes you think he can't be better than average 3rd baseman ? Plenty of people wrote him off after missing so much time and then he crushed his way to the big leagues in a year in which nobody would have faulted him for being very rusty. Burger deserves a lot of credit. Quality people mean something. There are plenty of scumbag players. I don't like it when players get dehumanized especially Burger who is constantly ripped by one member of Soxtalk as being a fat blob. Having your dreams ripped apart by devastating injuries would mess with a lot of people's heads but Burger fought through it. I hope he becomes a rock solid fielder and hitter at 3rd base. Not everyone can be versatile but if you are really good hitter and 3rd baseman that should keep you in the big leagues for a long time.
  7. Trade your Shiba for crypto and cash in .
  8. I think compounding the error is picking up his option and getting a minimal return. Why do you think the Sox picked up his option in the 1st place ?Or maybe you think the Sox already compounded the error by picking up his option. That I can understand at least.
  9. I just don't think that's how most fans see it. The guy I responded to didn't think Segura was even enough for Kimbrel straight up. And that suggestion basically traded Kimbrel's salary for Segura's and filled one of our holes. Obviously he's not LH but he's a good player and for only 1 year we give Jose Rodriquez, Yolbert Sanchez and Romy Gonzalez chances to grow and perhaps fill 2nd base down the road. I know I wouldn't be applauding Hahn for minimizing the return on Kimbrel when all he had to do was not pick up the option. I'd be pissed that he doubled down on his losses and lost again. I'd put it under my favorite files of Sox disasters called "Sox Gonna Sox."
  10. I totally understand where you're coming from and to make my point to the poster I responded to I used your return for Kimbrel as an example. Didn't do it to make you look bad. Unfortunately I think what we gave up for Kimbrel is totally relevant because once the Sox decided to pick up his option they now have to maximize his trade value because if they don't they look even worse by compounding the disaster of a trade by picking up his option and getting nothing in return. If they made the trade for Kimbrel you suggested every media outlet in the US and every voice of the fan on twitter and elsewhere will be asking "Why the fuck did they pick up his option if all they got was some nobody relief pitcher " ? Why not just decline the option and let him become a FA ? They picked up his option to maximize some value in a trade which you did not do. You asked "Are we trying to win a World Series next year or is pretending the Kimbrel trade wasn’t a disaster more important? " Good question . Probably should ask the Sox then why they picked up his option. But since they did pick it up they obviously intend to try to salvage something from that trade.
  11. Segura is a good player with a good track record. I have a hard time believing they will get better than him. Since the decision is already made on Kimbrel they now have to rid themselves of his salary while getting the best piece possible in return If you can trade salary for salary while at the same time filling one of our holes you have to do it. There's one guy on the board who did a very detailed analysis on what he would do with the roster with James Fox's saying Reinsdorf is going to have payroll around $190-$200M. He had the Phillies eating the whole contract and giving us a relief pitcher who has 1 inning pitched in the last 2 years ,was injured last year, is 27 and has 3 yrs of eligibility. He also had the Sox trading Keuchel and most of his salary in order to sign Scherzer at 3/120M and Conforto. I asked him did he want the final tally on the Kimbrel trade to be Madrigal, Heuer and whatever we paid Kimbrel to shit the bed last year to be a nobody relief pitcher ? And if that's the case why even bother picking up Kimbrel option ? So yea , I have the same concerns as you and as others have suggested Segura straight up for Kimbrel might be the best case scenario. Now that same guy @Chicago White Sox didn't like the Segura for Kimbrel trade and said just pay Escobar $10M but in his new analysis I just told you what he suggested doing with Kimbrel and his 2nd base solution was trading a prospect for Tony Kemp because he had spent all the money on Conforto and Scherzer.
  12. Well 1st, not sure any team wants to take on the whole contract and then give up a piece in the area they want to improve. Phillies spend a lot of money but maybe they rather give up Segura and his salary. They get their relief pitcher , they keep Dominguez, we get our 2nd baseman. Edit I forgot to add: 2nd, Do you really want the final trade for Kimbrel to look like this : Nick Madrigal and Codi Heuer + whatever we paid him to shit the bed , for a 27 yr old relief pitcher who has pitched 1 inning in the big league for the last 2 years with 3 yrs. of eligibility ? That ends up looking so so sooooo bad. If the trade was going to end up that bad why even pick up Kimbrel's option for 2022 ? I know trading Kimbrel for Segura doesn't get you the payroll savings but it may save you a prospect that you traded for Kemp (whoever that would turn out to be) who might be a 2nd piece in a bigger trade. A big trade is one thing you left out unless you count Keuchel. I know you dumped salary in both Kimbrel and Keuchel trades to make room for Scherzer and Conforto . I haven't crunched the numbers like you have so I know I haven't thought this through like you have and for that I apologize. Would love Scherzer but damn that's a lot to shell out for an old dude . Hard to speculate what he gets but I guess you are going off of somebody's projection. I do agree Sox need a TOR arm and one so reliable like Scherzer is hard to find. Just hard to imagine the Sox shopping in that stratosphere . I think if they sign Conforto, use Kimbrel's salary on Segura they'd circle back to Rodon and see what he costs. Don't know how that translates to our new payroll according to James.
  13. But what if you could get Segura for Kimbrel ? The salary's equal out and you kill 2 birds with 1 stone. I know Segura has an extra yr. but its a club option (1M buyout) so I'm not really counting the 2nd yr. I know Kemp has zero track record offensively but he had a strong year but that year was last year and combined with his fielding and baserunning made him pretty valuable. Segura has a much better track record. Save the prospect by not trading for him or whatever Oakland asks for him The Sox absolutely have to get more for Kimbrel. Dominguez has been an upside bullpen arm for a while and if the Phillies take on Kimbrel why give up Dominguez ?
  14. Didn't the Sox already pick up Kimbrel's option ? Pretty sure they did so apparently the plan is to trade him.
  15. I was wondering how you see the Kimbrel for Dominguez trade. Do the Sox eat any salary? It doesn't seem like much of a return but maybe you can enlighten me on Dominguez. On the surface the return seems pretty light. Sosa for Kemp also seems pretty light . Sox would have to give up more. Kemp had a career year and has just become arb. eligible so has some eligibility left albeit entering his 30's.Kemp's been rumored to be on the block so Oakland wants to cash in on the year he had and I'm thinking L. Sosa isn't quite enough.
  16. MLB history is a long long time and HWSNBN is still in his career infancy. Give it time.
  17. And then when they do use it ,which is always wise when you have Marco Paddy, they dump the one guy they shouldn't have.
  18. I think it depends on how you interpret the Kimbrel market. I don't think the Sox should wait too long before moving him if they think the market for him will be soft. Segura may end up being the best value they can get for him while it also fills a hole very competently. If you wait too long your options for high value for Kimbrel decrease and your other options to fill holes dwindle. Maybe you can't get Escobar for $10M and you also might have to wait for him if you don't want to pay what Segura gets. Segura also gives the Sox a little more versatility. Having a competent backup for Tim is important. I also like the higher batting average and contact rate. The bombs and being a switch hitter are important for Escobar but when you just need a hit or contact Segura is better at that aspect. If you can get Escobar early for $10M you better have a strong market for Kimbrel.
  19. You just can't say no to Segura if he is the highest quality player to fill a hole in order to get the best value for Kimbrel. He's a pretty good ball player.
  20. The Candy Man- Sammy Davis, Jr. or Candy- duet with Iggy Pop and Kate Pierson of the B-52's.
  21. Better than sour grapes
  22. Hey let's keep this dialogue going . Remember when you wanted Garrett Richards instead of trading better prospects for Corbin Burnes ? Good times ! Keep those psych evaluations coming ?.
  23. You are so good at projecting how others feel . I'm so bitter and upset. ?. I don't believe for a minute that you had forgotten about your takes in that Burnes thread. That thread was reopened in September and I pointed out some good and bad takes including yours . The thread was then locked. I wouldn't be at all surprised if you were the one who locked itbecause you looked so foolish.
  24. Not upset in the least. You are pretty full of yourself . There was no false equating. I merely pointed out you both suck at it . Targeting good players while not offering enough in trade for them or offering them or offering enough money to sign them apparently means a lot more to you than it does to me. They were so good at evaluating talent that they thought he was worth a 2nd baseman and a relief pitcher that they then traded for a relief pitcher. Young starter with Cy Young ability making peanuts was worth an old relief pitcher making $16M a year who pitched so poorly they decided that Rodon wasn't worth a QO but kept Kimbrel and announced to the world they intend to trade him. If they never win a championship that kind of talent evaluating will likely be remembered as the deal that sunk the Sox. Offer enough for Burnes and they could have won the World Series this year if Milwaukee bit. Make decent trades at the deadline they could've won the World Series like Atlanta did. Keep carrying that water.
  25. Madrigal too actually and Grandal for chunk.
