  1. LaRussa is part Sicilian .Are any restaurants from Little Italy repped ? Is Little Italy still around ? I've been out of the loop a long time.
  2. I don't believe any of them but I made a post a few weeks back that said it's very likely that the Sox Big Board could have over 100 players and that will expand after Dec. 2nd so listing 56 players in itself isn't indicative of nonsense. Did you actually take the time to count them ? As long as these guys keep getting clicks and mentions that's probably the only thing most of them care about and for what reason I do not understand.
  3. Hey a Southwest side mention. I've been in SoCal for 40+ years now but that's my old stomping grounds hence my name, CaliSoxFanviaSWside.
  4. Everyone states their opinion. Not many minds get changed so yes if we have a strong opinion on something we are spitting into the wind. But I like to write and also to write about my favorite team. Usually just about baseball , player related things. I don't often get drawn into prolonged arguments because it's fruitless but I get especially bothered when a conservative ,admittedly ignorant approach, get's called nonsense ( not by you) as if your opinion, that comes from a little less ignorance, is better than mine. No matter how many articles you read about the state of the game and it's financials you still are reading conclusions drawn from limited information. Then from all that we get to 100 % certainty there is collusion. I think Reinsdorf operates in a way he wishes he could convince the rest of the owners to follow, but he can't and it's why he can't but back to back winning seasons together . If the owners were so united it's hard to understand these mega contracts still being given out when most data points to them being crippling to all but the richest teams. Phillies signed Wheeler and Harper and supposedly had vast resources to make those kind of commitments and now they are claiming they lost $145M in 2020. I think when we form very strong opinions it leads to less open mindedness and less discussion and intolerance.
  5. Of course he is because Lynn has a track record and Dunning doesn't. Also because of that the odds are he will be better than Dunning next year. But I wouldn't book it. Every promising pitcher you give up in a trade for 1 year of a player is a good way to shorten your window of contention when you don't win the World Series and you have to rinse and repeat the next year until you 're out of the playoffs with no prospects left and no championship. We desperately need another young pitcher to step up. Keuchel isn't going to be around forever and Lynn would be just a year. Our odds increase of a pitcher stepping up to join Giolito if we keep the ones who are MLB ready.
  6. But if we don't win the World Series now what? Give up another 6 years of another promising young pitcher for another rental. Can't keep doing that. That's why most would rather just sign a pitcher or 2 for a year or 2 and see what we got with Kopech , Dunning ,Cease and Crochet at least. We can give up pitchers behind those 4 since they won't fit the window as well .
  7. What front line guy though ? It's not like they are hanging from trees waiting to be plucked. The problem is you can't tell who the pitcher you need is. This is where fans are almost as knowledgeable as GM's . If you put all the free agent pitchers in order of AAV received after they signed and then put them in order of best performance those lists wouldn't come close to aligning. Someone wants Tanaka, some Ordorizzi, some Quintana. etc etc. Take your shot and hope for the best if you aren't getting Bauer . But can't be giving up 6 years of a promising young pitcher for a rental. As much as I wanted the Sox to get Lynn at the deadline last year, if the price was exorbitant , that's how things go with this team.
  8. I agree with the sentiment but it would be a lot easier to swallow if it wasn't someone who isn't already MLB ready . We wait and wait for a guy coming back from TJ surgery and he showed a great deal of promise for 1 year of a pretty good pitcher . 1 stinking year. Give the Rangers someone who hasn't had TJ yet and let them wait on the promise to be fulfilled.
  9. I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or you mean it. Q might sign for $8M a year if he gets 2 years.
  10. It's very doubtful he will be better than Lynn in 2021.But it could happen and every year after that the odds get better as Lynn ages but not on the White Sox and that is the crux of the matter . It's one year.
  11. I like Taijuan Walker myself . We need 2 any way.
  12. Right but that's a much better outlook than it was a month ago.
  13. Nothing really infuriates me as a fan anymore. I too wanted reinforcements at the deadline, but it didn't happen. It's the White Sox . It's just the 1st year of the window plenty of time say the fans. Reinsdorf smiles gleefully. "This is easier then I thought " he thinks." These fans are so sick of losing and so excited for the future that they happily accept 2nd place. I am the puppet master. Oh wait a goddamn minute, I'm going to hire Tony LaRussa ! Won't that put a burr under their saddles !" Gee Covid sure did come along at a great time, right when everyone expected me to put the final touches on the team. " Oh well wait till next year he muses as sugar plum fairies danced in his head. He laughs maniacally as he starts singing, 'You're a mean one Mr. Grinch... HEHEJHEHHHHHH HAHHHHAHOHOHO !! "
  14. I think Covid and the possibility of a vaccine is a huge reason . Look at all the financial distress after one season of it. Can you imagine all the wailing about finances going into the new CBA ? It would be a disaster. It might be just what some owners want who are more concerned about holding salaries down than anything else. As the news gets better and better on the vaccine front so will news on free agent signings. They seem to be on a parallel course.
  15. I'd say so and the owners who think like that are probably the most aggressive. If you are late to the game because you are still afraid Covid will wipe out a lot of the season and there won't be fans in the park again then you are either going to be very smart or very stupid
  16. A lot of smoke doesn't necessarily mean a lot of action. Just to humor my collusion pals, interest could be feigned, offers made with no real intent but I digress. I think we see a lot more 1 and 2 year contracts than in past years for smaller amounts. Just like you said about Springer about matching what he might have got if this was 2018, that holds true for everyone else too. We are seeing, like we almost always do, that pitching still carries a premium however volatile it might be. There's always a certain amount of pitchers who are signed for a few mill and then put up a season or 2 of good production like Lynn and his other Texas team mate. Oakland had a few gems too . My initial premise after the season ended was that things would be very slow . But the outlook for a vaccine for Covid has advanced so quickly that the market could be changing.
  17. I'll Remember the McCann time with the Sox very well. He caused more confusion as a player here than anyone I can remember. Headline: White Sox sign James McCann. Soxtalk : HE SUCKS ! WTF are we thinking ? He is who he is. 2019 McCann has a career year but crushes the 1st half and not so much the 2nd half but shows good pop and the ability to hit the ball where it's pitched. Soxtalk : He was just hot in the first half . He showed his true self in the 2nd half. He is who we thought he is. He'll never amount to anything. 2020: In the abbreviated season almost every major offensive stat shows improvement yet he is under utilized by the Sox because of the Sox refusal most of the year to carry 3 catchers and to play Edwin Encarnacion at DH. He also improved his Pitch Framing. Soxtalk : He's better than Grandal. You people are nuts. Let's resign him. He's better than Grandal, I tell ya ! Please Sox please please resign McCann.
  18. Just to be a contrarian , I'll say there is no activity on 12/3.
  19. Bears are going to lose by 20 unless Tru runs all over the place.
  20. To be honest there are mods who love the anti-Russa stuff and don't care how often it appears and derails threads.
  21. Plus it's apples and oranges. NBA teams pay 12 players and no minor league system . They don't have 100+ players that they are paying like every MLB team does. It also takes more people to keep track of all those players and all those players in other systems. Hockey is the closest sport you can compare to MLB.
  22. Plenty of slow days ahead. And this would've been a good thread if the OP didn't drag his anti-LaRussa schtick into it. And into every other thread. We've run that subject into the ground and there are threads for it. You have to wonder if this thread was about Mazara or just a guise to talk more shit about Larussa.
