I'm kind of surprised we haven't seen Crochet mentioned much in trades. I know he looked like the 2nd coming of Randy Johnson but it's really hard to determine how much he will pitch next year and how his stuff will play when he starts. Plus there's a good chance he will need Tommy John just like most of our other pitchers. What do the Sox do with him if there are no minor league games again ? He could be a key BP piece but that just delays the things he has to do to become a starter. Kopech has had his surgery and the last pitch we saw him throw was 101 on the black to end a perfect inning back in March. 6 of his 11 pitches were 100+ MPH. It's really wild the Sox have 1 lefty and 1 righty, that throw that hard, who can either be key pieces in the 2021 BP or make some starts and build up innings and spend a lot of time either in the minors or in summer camp. If 2021 is a World Series type year I envision both of them in the bullpen.

I don't expect anything . Sometimes these things are made public. It's not unheard of.
-
Sure logically he wouldn't but people have their own reasons. I'd just feel better on speculating over a Darvish trade if I knew it had a chance to happen. I suppose he could waive that clause or change his list.
-
Ok so does anybody know if the White Sox are one of the 12 teams to which Darvish can block trades ?

Because tons or pitchers with the POTENTIAL to be TOR pitchers often end up just being competent. Giolito didn't exactly set the world on fire with his stats . He was basically the worst starting pitcher in baseball. After that terrible 2018 season he already had 240 MLB innings pitched. Cease has 130 MLB innings pitched . It's a game where you learn from your mistakes and experience. I don't think their odds are very high to become 1's or 2's but the potential is always there. I don't have blind optimism but as a fan I can always hope for better.

That's who I thought. I was just making sure. I did address why I think that just before this.

I don't rule anything out. I just was saying that the 2 most likely guys to be successful as starters in the near future are Cease and Lopez based on the fact that they have the most innings and if successful can contribute more than the others who need a ton more innings before they can give you a full regular season worth of starts. Of course if you are pitching 2 straight seasons of shortened schedules a lot of pitchers will be having difficulty once you get back to a full season. Having a lot of high quality BP arms becomes increasingly important in Covid years and the years following it.
-
Who's babyface ?
-
Out of all our guys who have the potential to be a TOR starter ASAP Cease is #1 and surprisingly Lopez is 2nd . Kopech, Dunning and Crochet all need a lot more innings.

George Springer Thread
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Squirmin' for Yermin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I posted before you on my theory about going after Springer and you are right ,they aren't mutually exclusive. When the Sox 1st started the rebuild they went pitcher heavy in their early trades. I think that was because they know with injuries and long development time pitchers are more of a crap shoot. If hitters are legit they shoot up the ladder pretty fast. Moncada, Eloy, Robert, Madrigal and maybe next Vaughn. Throw in Tim as a late bloomer but still pretty young. Giolito is really, so far, the only SP to work out. For this sustained success to work they still need a Kopech, Dunning , Cease, Lopez, Crochet to make a big leap forward and soon.which is why the Katz hiring is so important. The Sox would just rather spend the money on hitters because they get a better return on the investment. In that respect I don't see the Sox signing starting pitching for more than a couple of years. A big trade could still be done for a cost controlled pitcher but we'll have to wait and see.- 638 replies

Too true , which is why I really don't give a flying fig about who is who on Twitter. It's just entertainment to me. I don't need the news as soon as I can get it. I love speculating on the rumors but it's like talking about a movie after you watch it. It's all make believe until it becomes reality.

Come gather 'round, people Wherever you roam And admit that the waters Around you have grown And accept it that soon You'll be drenched to the bone If your time to you is worth savin' And you better start swimmin' Or you'll sink like a stone For the times they are a-changin'

Apparently so judging by the answers after you asked. I think that if there was a poll Springer wouldn't be a top priority since it was so obvious we need another TOR starter. However, since Bauer seems to be the only one that fits that description perhaps the Sox have set their sights on Springer and will upgrade the rotation with a couple guys on 1 and 2 year contracts while hoping Kopech , Cease or Dunning step up under the tutelage of Katz, or perhaps make a trade . With Springer in the fold that would be a lot every day lineup guys around for a lot of years. Next step is getting some of the young pitchers to the same place the hitters are. This is the more difficult part because pitchers are more likely to go down with major injuries for longer periods of time. Starting pitchers are going less innings so their need is possibly being minimized and a strong bullpen can be built much cheaper. Anyway , it's nice to get back to baseball talk and seeing some hope that the Sox will spend.- 638 replies

Jose Abreu wins 2020 AL MVP and Hank Aaron Award
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Ducksnort's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Jose seems to be a genuinely kind , family oriented person . I think we would be remiss if we didn't mention his early connection with Minnie Minoso. Minoso and Abreu are very much alike in that they are very grateful to had the opportunity to live and play in the US and better their lives and saw that opportunity to better the lives of his teammates with his wisdom. -

A heartfelt congratulations to Jose and to everyone he holds dear in his life. This seems like an opportune time to say how fortunate we are as fans to have 2 not only great players but 2 upstanding people like Jose and Tim as the leaders of this team. -
La Russa arrested for DUI in Feb; charged day before hire
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Baron's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Most people drink and drive because they FEEL fine and think they are capable of doing something as simple as driving and it's an inconvenience to leave your car behind while you call Uber or a cab. It's not about how you FEEL it's about what the law considers to be driving while impaired or driving under the influence. The argument that .05 is too low and you'd like to be able to drink more before you get behind the wheel is quite possibly the dumbest thing I ever heard. -

La Russa arrested for DUI in Feb; charged day before hire
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Baron's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Then you missed the point entirely. A few people declared him guilty of the charges. I simple said declaring him guilty without due process would be a violation of his civil rights and if we go down that path it can lead to much worse. If you state that a person charged with a crime is guilty of that crime before due process then by your words you are advocating injustice. -

Somehow your anger is over ruling your thoughts. I didn't say you signed away your rights or didn't have the right to boycott. My original argument when responsding to the poster I responded to ( that wasn't you) was about declaring someone guilty without due process not about your rights. This is about TLR's rights. His civil rights. Everyone gets them not just the oppressed. -

Or if he gets off technically he never did drive drunk because maybe the tests were inaccurate. Look I've been against the LaRussa hiring from the beginning. I told everyone that it was not the Sox PR department using LaRussa's name as a smokescreen for hiring Hinch. Would I be far off base if I were to say that 99% of the people who drive drunk aren't caught ? There are a lot of people on this board who might have got drunk every weekend in college or at some point in young adulthood and drove drunk 100 times and never got caught. Maybe they had an alcohol problem , maybe not. There is always the "let he who is without sin cast the 1st stone" argument or the pot calling the kettle black. Is not getting caught a technicality ? Many of us used that very same bad judgement time after time and got away with it . I'm not going to die on that hill arguing for TLR . I'm just advocating for clear thought without hypocrisy.
