  1. Nah that went about 120 ft. so you were closer than you think.
  2. They probably should move him down in the order. LaRussa may be leaving him there to show he's behind him. However at this point it just makes sense for the team to put Lamb in the middle of the lineup against RHP. I'd bench him for a game against a RHP for sure . Until Yermin and Vaughn start hitting RHP better we are going to see a lot more of Lamb . It does suck that Lamb appears to be our 2nd best LHH on the team now. Grandal could be that but when you are hitting under .150 I can't say it with any conviction. Love the OBP from him but the Sox need a guy who can hit his way on base and advance runner multiple bases from the left side hitting 5th or 6th against RHP.
  3. For sure he is in a slump but any time you take the count to 3-2 that's a good AB. 1st step for him getting back to hitting is being more selective at the plate. For most of the slump I'd say he's been behind in the count a lot. You get guys down 0-2 , 1-2 and the result are going to be terrible for 99% of the guys. Once you can work the count in your favor the results get way better. Vaughn probably won't be on the IL all 10 days so Sheets won't be here for long. Perhaps we get to see him a few times before he goes back down.
  4. We went to a 3-2 count twice last night so I'd call those good AB's.
  5. And conversely the opponent has great framing ? Remember a lot of the bad calls that go against the Sox are when they are hitting. I actually believe framing means so little it shouldn't even be a a thing. Since the Dodgers don't get calls either can you ask the same question about their catchers or any of the top 10 teams who don't get calls in their favor ?
  6. Beautiful game from Lynn on 3 days rest. Season high 4 jacks for all 4 runs. Moncada, Lamb, Grandal and Mr. Anderson.
  7. Yup it's a slump . When in a slump you can find all sorts of bad data . Look at Roberts, he sucked after a hot month. The good thing is Yermin has a lot more time than Robert to turn it around. I'm expecting good things from Yermin soon. How many RH hitters can bash .415 for a month. You could expect that from some lefties but probably not a whole lot of RHH . The guy can hit. He put the Sox on his back along with the starting pitching when Moncada and Abreu weren't hitting and Tim was out for a little bit. He's been an instrumental part of the team and while he's been slumping some other's have picked up the slack just as he did for them. It takes a team. I have his back.
  8. Minoso was before my time basically. Of course I know a lot about him because since I'm a Sox and baseball fan I make it a point to know team history. Abreu got a lot of mentoring from Minoso and their similar upbeat positive thinking personalities made them very much alike. Jose has passed the mentoring on down the line . I saw more of Banks since the Cubs were on WGN after school a lot more in my youth especially that 1969 year. I watched because it was better watching baseball than anything else. The only time I remember seeing Minoso play was in 1976 when he got a hit at 50 years old. I was happy to see him get a hit. He gave it another try in 1980 just to see if he could be the only player to get a hit in 5 decades. He got his 1st hit in 1949 ,then his best years were in the 50's. He slowed down in the 60's and retired after the 1964 season. 1976 he got a hit but failed in 2 AB's in 1980. To his credit he didn't K in either AB in '80. 4 times he came in 4th in MVP voting. The last time was 1960.
  9. A lot of guy put up good numbers in Charlotte. There's no way to compare Sheets to Vaughn or Mercedes. They are both learning on the job at the highest level. Sheets would be going through the same thing without the advantage of 100+ MLB PA's. Don't expect any help from the our position prospects this season unless there are more injuries. Lamb is hitting well and I think we see him a lot more against righties than we have been.
  10. Some names in the Dash lineup all getting their 1st HR of the year all from the bottom of the lineup, LF Duke Ellis, SS Travis Moniot, and Catcher Daniel Millweed. Combined they went 7/13 with 3 HR's and 2 doubles.
  11. A couple of 2 outs hits drives in 2 to bring Charlotte to within 2 of Nashville in the top of the 8th. Gonzalez with a single to drive in Hernandez and Burger with a double to bring in Gonzalez. Sheets batting. Makes an out. 6-4 Nashville.
  12. Oh I know his rep to his employees which is why I didn't really like mentioning a possible dual purpose, which is more polite way of saying an ulterior motive. My words made it sound more sinister.
  13. This is the way I look at it. Every team in the Central during the season. Teams we play in the playoffs, ( which is very few until they make it to the playoffs which is rare). That's it . Historical rivalries mean nothing in the present. We are rivals with the Cubs because each team wants to beat the other one because it's intensified by the huge crowds for each game so those mean a lot to the fans and to the players who care about the fans who support them . I might add one more. Reinsdorf seems to be a rival based on how often the Sox have reached the playoffs.
  14. It would be like a Cubs fan hating Ernie Banks. Sorry it was the best example I could think of. Not sure how many people here even know much about Ernie Banks.
  15. You probably won't like what I have to say and frankly, I don't like saying it. There's a saying that goes you can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar. The nicer JR is to Rodon now perhaps it greases the wheels to resigning him. It's kind of like the family and friends plan they tried with Machado. JR is a smart business man. A small investment in the short term can pay dividends in the long term. I believe this move by JR can be genuine however I cannot eliminate the possibility of an ulterior motive.
  16. Ain't that the truth. Those thinking Bummer or Heuer could've stepped up would've been in for a rude awakening. Maybe there was a free agent performing well now that could've been had for cheaper but someone would have to point him out to me.
  17. You are right about Lamb . I also have been making posts here and there about his good statistics since the bad start in a tiny sample size had everyone calling for his head. It was quite surprising to me that so many still wanted him to be gone in the poll. Against almost any righty it seems like Lamb should be in the lineup now. That means Mercedes or Vaughn sits more or you see if he can handle 2nd base too or also when Moncada needs a rest at 3rd.
