  1. So you don't think Crochet will be treated the same way as Kopech or did you just forget him ?
  2. Thats even better , I knew I had to be forgetting someone. So we may have more left than $15M ,maybe about $25M.
  3. Giolito, Keuchel, Lynn, (Cease, Kopech,Crochet ) maybe a FA depending on cost probably not one of the more expensive ones left unless a guy like Taijuan Walker gets as much as the rest of them do like Paxton, Tanaka,Ordorizzi, Quintana. Walker would be my choice . I'd hate to think we don't sign 1 more starting pitcher , but that may be the reality.
  4. That's what I figured out in a post a week ago that they were already $15 over last years payroll . The $30M budget is new speculation and I'm not 100% convinced its accurate.
  5. DId you factor in the raises for players already on the team ? They guys they got rid of EE,Cishek,GG, Rodon and Mazara pretty much equals the raises so as others said it only leaves about $15M of the $30M if we assume $30M is correct.
  6. You are right and I am sorry for that . It was Two Gun Pete who I was arguing with over Dahl. My sincere apologies. I will delete the post where I said that about you.
  7. He really wasn't going to get more than that. His projected arb. number was slightly less than $3M and he supposedly was still recovering from surgery on his throwing shoulder to clean up and repair a bunch of stuff they found wrong in there. This is what I suggested in the closed Off Season Targets thread: So perhaps a 2 year contact for $6-7M but incentives giving him a chance to earn $1M more in 2021 and $3M more in 2022 plus team options for a 3rd and 4th year with a higher pay scale or buyout . It's a better offer than the Texas one and with the 2nd year and incentives I put in it . But Dahl had that shoulder surgery and he may be more suited to LF now.
  8. That may be but then again it's always the case with injury prone guys or guys who put up inconsistent numbers. No one really wants a project now. They want a quality major leaguer . My guess is that less than half of the 30 teams have a higher payroll than last year . The Sox will be one of them but they aren't going to go hog wild. My 2nd guess is that the Sox will be among the top 5 teams either in the amount of money exceeding last years payroll or at least one of the highest by percentage of money exceeding last years payroll.
  9. Well I was wrong with my theory that he wouldn't sign til February because of his recovery from his latest injury .If he can pass a physical now after the surgery on his throwing shoulder that's a good sign. His arb. number was projected to be slightly less than $3M.
  10. I don't really pay much attention to Twitter only from what's posted here. So I have no Idea who posted that about you, where she got your name from or why she would think that and I certainly don't believe her but I also don't not believer her. I'm neutral because I mostly don't care.
  11. Or he is Al's Beef. He was accused on Twitter of being one of those guys.
  12. The reason people have issues with you and I know you don't care but you use trigger words with which the more sensitive people take umbrage. It makes it seem like you are condescending and superior. Communicating efficiently is not easy and I forgive you for thinking I was taking his side . He doesn't need people thinking he said you are right. There's a lot of people here who probably already think you are too full of yourself without anyone telling you you are right.
  13. Lo you need to relax . I wasn't taking sides with anyone. I was just telling Vulture a better way to disagree with you is not to use sarcasm because readers will miss his point.
  14. I'm pretty sure this is sarcasm but I would never use sarcasm and include the phrase "you are right". People don't pick up sarcasm well when reading on a message board. If it was a novel what you just said would be followed by "he said sarcastically." But here people think you are admitting you were wrong and Ray Ray was right.
  15. See we agree then "turn and burn and adjust" . The "adjust" part may make his route efficiency look worse but a guy with less instinct to turn and burn and adjust might have great route efficiency because his eye is always on the ball but that isn't a good way to run to make the most of your speed.
  16. Right and those were the OFers I said were rare . I just couldn't recall the term used for it. Thank you. Very few use spot recognition very well. Some can do it a little but have to take a few looks on the way and some can't do it at all with eyes always on the ball . I think the guy running to the spot from his first initial look makes the best use of his speed but may not run the best route to the ball because at the last moment when he looks up again to catch it he may veer or swerve . Some route inefficiency is OK if you use your instincts rather than your eyes to maxmize your speed to the ball and run like a sprinter head straight ahead arms and legs churning, rather than running with your head up eyes on the ball which is an inefficient and slower way to run. Maybe it all evens out but route efficiency is the thing getting measured by statcast and it may not tell the whole story which is why people get uncomfortable with some defensive metrics. That was the crux of me 1st bringing it up when Ray Ray pointed out how bad Eaton's routes are and why that particular defensive metric doesn't tell the whole story. We need reminders once in a while that there are reason to question defensive metrics and I have always done that starting mostly with pitch framing. Things have to be broken down into parts and looked at in context to judge abilities like chasing flyballs or framing pitches.
  17. That's exactly what I said. But I was questioning how efficiently a runner uses his speed to get to a ball. You can run a very direct route but run slower if your eye is always on the ball. The very best OF may not look at the ball as much but run faster to his top speed but his route may waver. Obviously the different kind of flyballs also affect that. Line drives using lateral movement or coming in pretty much require eyes on the ball at all times. And CFers would be more efficient with their speed because they don't have to worry about slowing down for foul balls approaching the stands. The deep drives going back on balls over your head or into the gaps are the ones I was wondering just how its possible to see if an OF is using his speed efficiently and ability at the wall isn't something that's probably measured either. Robert has great speed and instincts but had some problems at the wall which I'm sure he will get better at.
  18. I'm not sure whats the best way to run a route efficiently. I would think the statcast people use where a player starts and where he catches the ball and measure deviations from the straight line or most direct path. There are Ofers who can take one look at the ball and if they've done their homework and anticipate hook and slice depending on the handedness of the batter and trajectory, can then adjust their path looking up one more time. These guys are rare. Others may do the look run, look run, look run and still others look at it at all times while the ball is in flight. If you look at it constantly your route may be best but u may be slower to the ball . Defensive metrics are tricky in that way. Is there any one stat that can keep constant tabs on sprint speed, apply it to how close an OF comes to his max sprint speed while chasing a flyball and measure the ability to run full speed while running his route ?
  19. Lots of apples at his locker. Do people still associate an apple on the teachers desk as a thing or is that too old school? That's been around forever.
  20. These are good comments. You admit his health has been bad but mention stuff that you can judge by analytics and scouting. I think his foot speed is still pretty good and he gets good jumps on balls according to what someone already posted here who didn't like him and posted his Statcast data for those things.
  21. You never know. You would think some team would want to see if a guy who put up just as good offensive numbers in Charlotte as Robert and then lit up Spring training up here can actually hit the way he has shown he can. Maybe the Sox can identify the next Fernando Tatis , Jr. in someone's DSL team to trade him for.
  22. Ok so we lost about the same amount getting rid of players. So since the off season started we are Lynn + Eaton's salary over last years payroll or roughly $16M. SO if we add Hendriks and another starter it's possible we are $40M over last years payroll. That isn't too bad in this environment.
  23. I like Walker because he is still young . His FIP is a bit high and he will lose command every so often but he did pitch pretty good for the Jays after Seattle traded him .He's one of those guys who could be just finding himself or just be a blah kind of guy. But if you throw him in the mix for #4 starter with Cease and when Kopech can make some starts we have a 3 way competition for 4 and 5 . More than that if we can somehow get Crochet to throw 4+ innings in 10 or so starts.
  24. I'm confident that if the Sox address DH at all it will be late in the off season. Next up is Hendriks and a starting pitcher . My dark horse candidate SP is Taijuan Walker . Link is to a Fansided Brewer s fan explaining why he thinks Brewers should sign him. It's not heavy on using metrics or anything but it does list some positives to think about. https://reviewingthebrew.com/2020/12/05/brewers-taijuan-walker-perfect-fit/
