Jonathan Lucroy signs minor league deal with White Sox
The hyberbole part is right but that's ok . Yermin has got a cult following and I almost feel as if I have been the leader of it since I've been curious about him and asking about him since he was with Winston-Salem. The little the actual public has seen on him has been the last spring training where he hit as well as anyone in Az.

Jonathan Lucroy signs minor league deal with White Sox
Eh he can squat and put on a glove and call pitches and catch them. I think the narratives on how bad he is gets overblown. Winston-Salem, Birmingham and Charlotte pitching staffs didn't blow up when he caught them. Just saying he wouldn't be a disaster . 2/14 Happy 28th Birthday Yermin ! Article from yesterday about Yermin .https://fromthe108.com/2021/02/13/the-case-for-yermin-mercedes/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=the-case-for-yermin-mercedes

MLB 2020-21 off season catch all
No one is discussing anyone atm because I'm pretty sure most of us believe there will be no more signings unless you can get them on a minor league deal.

Foodies: Sox/Giolito discussing an extension?????
Thanks, I was unsure whether a player can only get one in his career and so would I be very surprised.

Foodies: Sox/Giolito discussing an extension?????
The Sox probably have one of the least expensive pitching staffs in baseball among the contenders. That's just a guess even after the signing of Hendriks unless you count the Marlins as a contender. They are rolling the dice on the youngsters and Katz. Lynn is highly unlikely to be extended and Keuchel still has 2 or 3 years on his contract. Keuchel and Lynn are just around to have good pitchers to still contend and allow Cease, Kopech etc. to develop. The plan has a higher degree of failure than success built into it which is why so many want Lynn extended . Sox won't do it. QO possible if Keuchel regresses too much and Lynn has a good year. But it seems to me the Sox will be searching for more starting pitching year after year unless Cease and Kopech really step it up to a high degree very soon. It's pretty doubtful the Sox raise payroll much next year with attendance still a factor and "lost revenue of $100M per team" for 2020 and perhaps, if lucky ,a loss of half that this year.

Foodies: Sox/Giolito discussing an extension?????
Neither one is true or totally true. You don't trade a Dunning for just anyone. He could turn out to be something but he was the oldest of the group of pitching prospects . With Lynn it had nothing to do with scouting. The Rangers got what they could for him due to pending Free Agency. They wait and maybe he regresses and isn't worth Dunning. No need to take that chance.

Fangraphs projects Abreu to have the largest dropoff in WAR next season - in the entire MLB!
I listened to a lot of old timers when Hank Aaron passed away and some interviews with him about advice he got as a hitter. They told him ,knock in runs and scoring runs were the most important. You knock them in you're doing great , you score them and you're getting on base.

So maybe we don’t need another reliable starter after all
Yea the ones to RF definitely a lot of them were cheapies.

Mlb Networks top 10 at each position
No he mostly falls because the projection models aren't kind to him. He's a very unique player. High BABIP with low walk rate which these models don't expect him to maintain . But he keeps doing it.

Mlb Networks top 10 at each position
I knew I forgot someone.

Mlb Networks top 10 at each position
Robert 94, Moncada 90, Lynn 75.... to be continued. Have to figure the Sox have a chance for at least 4 more amongst Hendriks, Giolito, Abreu , Anderson, Eloy ,Keuchel

Andrew Benintendi traded to the Royals
I haven't seen one post where anyone is sad. Benintendi isn't a failed prospect . He's already accumulated a decent amount of WAR in his short career. But Boston never put him in RF so I would imagine he doesn't have the arm for it.

Andrew Benintendi traded to the Royals
3 for 1 is a dangerous trade to do hoping AB finds his mojo again . If he doesn't Engel is actually more valuable then the current Benintendi is to the Sox and then there are 2 prospects that they get to find some upside with. Much easier for the Royals to do that trade where that team currently is. I can't really recall the Sox making a similar move during the rebuild but always hoped they'd make.

Fangraphs projects Abreu to have the largest dropoff in WAR next season - in the entire MLB!
Not a big surprise. 2020 was just an odd year with 2 1stbasemen winning MVP and over a full season they normally wouldn't expect those guys to keep up the WAR accumulation especially Abreu who also probably had his best fielding stats of his career also. They are just being projected to their mean seasons. Some of the other guys on the list had career years also. They stand out as outliers that again for a full season aren't likely to be replicated. Still Cruz is projected to have a higher WAR than Abreu playing DH at 40 years old. And Timmy is a nightmare for any projection model.

Happy PECOTA Day!
Interesting discussion. There are those who believe in this team as we all should and there are those who point to depth and strength of competition as factors to say we were not as good as our record suggested last year. It's pretty easy to straddle the fence here and see both sides as having valid points. There is a lot of variance involved in young teams and it's very difficult to project them. We all want to believe that Moncada is 2019 Moncada , Abreu is still an MVP, Madrigal will still hit .300 and eliminate his mistakes, Keuchel and Lynn regression isn't as bad as predicted, Robert will be worth 6+ WAR, the young relievers are as good as we saw last year, Eloy and Timmy continue to be a monster hitters, Vaughn can hit as well as McCann did last year, Crochet can stay healthy , Katz is capable of miracles and LaRussa is a positive. I am very much looking forward to see how it all plays out. There are no "for sure" outcomes in my head. “Walt Whitman once said, ‘I see great things in baseball. It’s our game. The American game. It will repair our losses and be a blessing to us.’ You could look it up.” “I’m just happy to be here. Hope I can help the ball club. I know. Write it down. I just want to give it my best shot, and the good Lord willing, things will work out.”

Happy PECOTA Day!
See. I told you that before Pecota did . They have the Cubs finishing with a better record than the Sox.

Dodgers sign Bauer (3/102, opt-outs, 40-45-17)
Trevor Bauer addressed Mets fans on Sunday to apologize for the merchandise glitch on his website that led people to believe he was signing with the Mets shortly before he agreed to a deal with the Dodgers. "Mets fans, I owe you an explanation and apology," Bauer posted in a Twitter thread. "My intention was never to mislead your fan base, nor was it to troll you in any way." On Friday, a link for Mets merchandise went live on Bauer's Linktree page on Instagram, and a page for a Bauer-signed Mets hat giveaway went live on his website, TrevorBauer.com. Fans who signed up for the cap giveaway received an email saying "I can't wait to take the mound in New York!" The links and screenshots of the Bauer Mets cap and giveaway email spread quickly on social media, with speculation swirling that the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner and top free-agent starting pitcher was on the verge of signing with New York. Instead, Bauer announced just hours later that he was joining the Dodgers. Bauer attempted to clear the air in Sunday's Twitter thread, explaining that the merchandise pages and links were prepared for multiple teams in advance and that none were supposed to go live until Bauer had announced his decision. "It was an embarrassing and emotional moment for me," Bauer said in the thread. This seems to be why Nightengale probably concluded the Mets had signed him. https://www.mlb.com/news/trevor-bauer-apologizes-to-mets-fans

And we all know those Captains didn't mind bending the Prime Directive once in a while ( prohibiting its members from interfering with the internal and natural development of alien civilizations.) I am the Captain ,I control this ship ! If you mutiny your lifetime job is over ! Starfleet Command doesn't exist in JR's universe.

It's all good and I am a firm believer in this and often think it's my usual perspective. I think that anybody who spends the time to learn about anything always comes off as pretty moderate and boring because they tend to come to a balanced perspective. the more you learn, the more confusing things are so that the more, almost more conservative in the presentation of the facts one is.

100 % agree and although some do miss the point , I don't think most of us do. However you might not see this since you are one of 2 people to block me. I don't even remember why but i was never blocked by anyone in 15 years but 2 in the last year. Sure arguments get heated some time but I almost never call anyone names or say their opinion is dumb or stupid or words i don't like said to me. Do unto others and all that.

So that makes you a Klingon, clinging to that hope and I'm usually right there with you but Captain Kirk/ Picard, aka JR , phasered me into non existence.
