  1. So you're saying you think Reinsdorf had something to do with the train's scheduling Just to have people drive and park in the parking lots ? Wouldn't it make more sense to have more fans buying more tickets and then also buying concessions ?
  2. You actually think he would dare bite the hand that feeds him ?
  3. Is Palka playing any 1st base at Charlotte ?
  4. A log jam? Really ? 2 guys coming off TJ ( Kopech Dunning), Giolito, Lopez, Cease a guy who will be a rookie . Nova will be gone, Do you want Banuelos or Covey to be the fifth starter ? Rodon can't really be counted on for next year at all. That's way too many young, untested and guys coming off injuries . Don't expect the Sox to compete with that do you ? Need a lefty. Keuchel is a lefty. Perhaps 2 years (this year and next year) $25M is enough to get him after the draft, That's nothing compared to someone like Bumgarner.
  5. ⚾ Lucas Giolito gave up 1 run on 3 hits , 2 walks and 4 K's in 5 innings to lower his ERA to 3.35 for his 3rd straight win. Leury Garcia led off the game with a HR. Yonder Alonso was 2-2 with 2 RBI. Charlie Tilson had a hit and has hit safely in 10 of 12 games since being recalled. With the rain starting to come down harder Giolito struck out the side in the 5th on 11 pitches and that made the game official. The game was called and Giolito gets credit for a complete game. It snapped a string of 382 without a complete game, the longest such streak in franchise history. Sox record is now 21-23 with Reynaldo Lopez going tomorrow to finish the series with the Jays. ⚾
  6. No they will either wait for the rain to stop and resume it or they can call the game over and official because of the rain since the visiting team got 5 innings . That's when it becomes an official game so we just squeeked in.
  7. I like the South Side Buntmen. Very creative reference to the South Side Hit men of 1977.
  8. Yeah when he is good he is really good , multiple hits, extra base hits, and stolen bases.
  9. Well technically Castillo is UP to .189 since a 1 for 4 raised his average. Yonder at least got 2 walks.
  10. Covey with a very good start. Bullpen lights out with Marshall, Herrera and Colome throwing 3+ innings of no hit ball. Just enough offense most of it coming from Tilson Cordell Delmonico and Leury.Sanchez also contributed a hit and walk . Castillo had an RBI single. Pretty good D from the middle infield combo or Leury at SS and Sanchez .Moncada had a forgettable day. 0-5 2 K and a two out error on a throw that gave the Jays an unearned run.
  11. I love the optimism but a lot has to go right for the Sox to compete this year which would include Eloy finding his bat, Robert being at least serviceable in the bigs. Keuchel pitching well despite not having pitched all year and Cease not getting destroyed in his starts, Collins who knows. He's a mystery at the big league level .Would probably need to remove Castillo for that to happen . Would also have to have Giolito and Lopez be consistently good. Keuchel is also a long shot if the contenders think he can help them. No need to be involved in a bidding war . If he can agree to a contract for this year and next year only, then what is a competitive offer for him ? $25 M ? Probably need another BP arm too.
  12. Well 1 unearned run for both sides. Now need to get out of the inning without any further damage.
  13. I feel like if Covey gives up a run we see more posts than when we score a run.
  14. i'll take 4 inning 1 run from Covey every time without any K's and just 1 walk. Sox are hitting Stroman harder than Jays are hitting Covey. Just too many atom balls by Sox hitters.
  15. Or you never know with you. You should realize that's all it was by the time you think about typing .
  16. yep. It's his bat that needs to get going so DH him and if some would be doubles turn into singles so be it.
  17. That's the bigger point. Even if TB signed him as a last resort when their other option fell through they still knew he had a lot of upside and took a chance on it.
  18. Didn't I say a player option ? Meaning if he has a great year in 2019 he can either elect free agency or accept the terms of the 2nd year If he has a crap year or gets injured again then he could take the 2nd year option. Risky for the Sox possibly only getting the 1 good year or worse getting 2 bad years but 2 years for the price of one basically if they had not non tendered him. (3.5 base salary doesn't reach incentives then $6 option year= 9.5M, roughly a little more than he might have got in arb. Structuring contracts is not my strong suit so I really don't know if that would be a viable thing for the Sox to do . But with so many OF's in the system not having reached AA yet at the time Avi was non tendered it buys them some time with a chance Avi could put it all together. But as I said I was fine with them non tendering him. I wasn't upset about it because I thought the Sox would get Machado and if not surely get more than they did. But I always thought it would've been a good idea to resign him after non tendering him even if it was for just 1 year like TB did it with incentives. It's all water under the vridge now anyway. Sox chances at a successful rebuild are slim regardless if drafts picks don't produce, injuries keep screwing with it and they can't evaluate and sign Free agents properly. Avi is just a microcosm of how the whole off season sucked. I thought the 2 most talented guys who were non tendered were Avi and Schoop and I wanted them both. And I am sure i made posts expressing this.
  19. Ok I guess we will see how it all plays out. But it really doesn't assume his representation is stupid. It represents that many times a bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush. How many times do you see guys lately entering free agency and not getting anything close to what they expected to get ? Why do young guys sign extensions ? Why do FA's to be forego Free Agency and sign extensions ? DO you think Adam Jones expected to make less than John Jay being a year younger and a much higher level performer over the years ?
  20. So if you gave him basically the same contract as TB and gave him a player option year of $6-8M with more incentives next year . that's silly for a guy who might get injured again or have a bad year and be out of baseball ? What makes you think he'll be worth more than 8 M on the open market next year. FA's arent getting squat anymore. What was he worth the off season after he hit .335 when he was 26 ?
  21. No that is the case . It was the injuries that held him back. That's why TB gave him a base salary of $3.5M and another $3M in health/games played incentives. They saw potential and the talent/tools as most smart front offices do.
