  1. It could mean anything about pitching ,signings, or trades with or without Mazara involved in them There's really no reason to get too specific on what it meant like you have.
  2. Can we just ignore your other 25 posts regarding Mazara and like this more reasonable one ?
  3. Great to see a post from you again. You couldn't have picked a better time /thread to just say a really nice thing like you did. Long live Hawk !
  4. Between Collins and Mazara that would be great. Apparently you still don't understand what upside means. It wasn't a prediction.
  5. Pretty damn good 1st post. Lots of ways to look at this if we even give the Sox front office a little credit which is admittedly hard to do. It's a cheap gamble on his upside, If he hits 30+ HR's next year.they likely get back more in trade than they gave up. If they decide to trade him this off season he is likely more valuable than Steele Walker .There are probably teams out there like the Sox willing to make a cheap gamble on his upside. Always have to keep the next moves in mind which should be centered on pitching. With the FA market for pitching looking more and more expensive maybe the Sox aren't thrilled with the idea of spending too much on Bumgarner,Ryu and Keuchel or even that they have much of a shot of getting them considering the widespread speculation about the Dodgers and others being in on them . They might be lining up a trade for a young controllable pitcher like a Gallen or Snell or whoever with prospects and Mazara as part of the package. I haven't really been thrilled with the idea of trading prospects but maybe you could get someone pretty good with Madrigal, Vaughn,Mazara, Collins, Lopez, and Stiever or some combination. Unfortunately for those who really really wanted to become a 90 win team this year the Sox haven't moved that needle very much and it is scary to think it's kicking the can down the road again. It's always been my position even with getting Wheeler there was only a hope and a dream of winning 90 next year. It is still really early in the off season and just have to see what comes next. Optimism, trust and hope is not a big thing here but that's all we got and it is truly hard to give it to those in charge.
  6. The time Bum missed in 2017 and 2018 were a dirt bike accident and getting hit by a line drive, He was back over 200 IP again last year for the 7th time in 9 years and both those years were freak injuries. I think last year was a nice recovery year from him as evidenced by his increased spin rate and there's a decent chance he is even better in 2020 but still not convinced he won't be way overpaid.
  7. Not quite but on the right road. Take a nap. I'll wake you when we are there.
  8. Don't you make me turn this car around Trevor !
  9. You're welcome and good post above even before I gave him that advice. I'd like to believe I am one of those reasonable fans . While I am still very critical of the front office and very leery of any kind of multiple year playoff run due to their utter disregard for the IFA process and lagging behind in the science of player development, I still try to stay focused and evaluate the team properly and use my ability to reason and not get too bothered by things I have no control over. Baseball and the Sox were always a unifying factor between my brothers and dad. That's a great thing in and of itself and helps me to keep my fandom in perspective. While many may consider having a catch with your old man as a sappy part of a mediocre movie. That really was a thing with some of us.
  10. @raBBit that's how you get his attention here since that shows up in our notifications.
  11. One thing to remember about Keuchel that is never brought up is his defense. He will probably remind of lot of people here of Mark Buehrle as a soft throwing guy who rarely walks anyone, doesn't K many, and gets a lot of ground balls and helps himself very much with his ability to field his position very well. Not sure how good his pick off move is but if it's as good as Mark's was we better hope Joe West isn't the home plate umpire for any of his starts.
  12. It's really not a matter of who is better but for arguments sake just based on last year alone Ryu is better since he finished 2nd in the NL Cy Young award, It's a matter of if Ryu can stay healthy.Bumgarner is a workhorse with a lot of innings on his arm and is the youngest of the 3 but likely the most expensive but also more likely to stay healthy. Keuchel is somewhere between them younger than Ryu but like Bumgarner perhaps his best days are behind him . Heck all 3 of them might have their best days behind them but Ryu has the most productive recent season. Ryu is the biggest risk of the 3 health wise. The question the Sox have to ask themselves is do we take the risk on Ryu in a go for it mentality ,which many of our fans here seem to want, or do they value decent production that;s more likely to last a whole season with Bum or Keuchel . Or do they not like any of them because of the cost of any of them and prefer to try to find a young controllable pitcher for prospects who will not cost them millions of dollars and thereby freeing up more money to add to other areas either this or next year. Of course then even if they go for any of them they still have to beat out the competion for them and that won't be easy.
  13. For those who don't know the reference it's from the innovative video game Street Fighter that started in arcades in the late 80's and proceeded into the video game revolution starting with the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and Super NES with the even more successful Street Fighter ll. But it had made its way to a PC game before that. Ryu was one of the characters. In Street Fighter, hadouken (波動拳) is a special attack unleashed by Ryu, Ken, and a few other characters. It literally means "wave motion fist", so the concept behind the attack is to send a burst of energy at an opponent, https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/64071/15-things-you-might-not-know-about-street-fighter I had to look up the reference but when I did I was very familiar with the game since I bought an NES a long time ago and also had a SEGA Genesis. I mostly used to watch my young son at the time in the mid 90's playing it on his cousins Super NES . He has been a gamer and computer geek for a long time now and is in his early 30's and makes a good living with his knowledge. No Ron883 is not my son because that would make him Ron, Jr. and that is not my sons name.
  14. Part of the hate is Bumgarner suffers from OWGS (Old White Guy Syndrome ). You know that disease where everyone thinks you're a no fun, old school, chaw chewin' ,deer huntin' redneck responsible for all the worlds ills.
  15. Can we post audio from a phone call ? Not even sure how that would work legally or how to do it. Yes I am not tech savvy enough to figure that out.
  16. Gracias ,amigo. (hopefully no translation needed )
  17. Were you speaking to him en espanol on Twitter ? I think I saw the tweets and you weren't but maybe the DM's you were ?
  18. Depends on what they meant by "asked indirectly". Usually that means Ozuna was not mentioned by name so he could be answering regarding another rumor.
  19. Tanner Roark Wade Miley Brett Anderson Martin Perez Kevin Gausman Alex Wood Michael Wacha Drew Smiley Gio Gonzalez Julio Teheran Rick Porcello Jordan Lyles Ivan Nova I made this list in the what to do now after missing on Wheeler thread . Lyles signed already.
  20. There are 2 things we know for sure. Good starting pitchers and run producers get the big dollars. Madrigal is neither. Gallen could be a good starting pitcher and he showed that last year with both traditional and peripheral numbers being good. We have need for starting pitching and being young and good even just for a half season puts him a leg up on Madrigal . He was drafted in the 3rd round . He advanced very quickly in 2017 age 21 season going from A+ to AAA. 2018 full season in AAA where he struggled a little bit with command. 2019 tore up AAA in 14 starts with a WHIP of .712 as opposed to 1.47 in 2018 his 1st full year in AAA. He put up good numbers with the Marlins and then the Dbacks in 15 more starts, ERA 2.81 FIP 3.61 WHIP 1.225. Pitched 80 innings in MLB giving up only 62 hits K/9 was 10.9 Total IP 2019 171 so he won't need any babying. Nickname is Milkman ( just like Herbert Perry ). He is better right now than Kopech and Cease and Lopez. As far as 2nd basemen to replace Nick there is Cesar Hernandez, you could probably put Didi Gregorious there or Jose Iglesias, Asdrubal Cabrera, Starlin Castro, Brock Holt , Eric Sogard, Wilmer Flores or even Danny Mendick and not miss a beat from Madrigals expected production. Plus those guys will be available for the full season and Madrigal will not. I'd do it because the Sox could get in on the ground floor, if Gallen is truly available, of a top flight starter instead of paying through the nose for a guy whose best days are behind him. Like any move it's risky but not so risky that we'd be giving up a run producer. It's just a matter of need taking precedent over a position that is unlikely to produce 3 WAR regardless of who is playing there this season or in future seasons.
  21. The fact that you even have to explain this just shows how ignorant a lot of our fan base can be.
  22. Why not ? Gallen might be the next great pitcher and we need pitching while there are 2nd basemen all over the place. Not sure when he is a FA because FG has it as 2025 and BF has it as 2026. Weird they are so far apart because FG has him as Arb. Eligible in 2020 while BF has him Arb. Eliglible in 2023
  23. Funny because eveyone else would be willing to pack Nick's bags if it was 1 for 1 Madrigal for Gallen.
