  1. Ha I've spent weeks thinking of Steve Garvey as a comp since no one else brought him up and I finally made a post about it and here you are beating me to the punch.
  2. Or Steve Garvey. He was a RH undersized 1st baseman who in his prime got MVP votes 8 years in a row ( though I don't understand why that 8th year.) and won gold gloves . 300 hitter.350 OBP never only hit 30 HR's once but it was a different era. Vaughn seems to have more power and a better eye. Garvey went downhill after about age 31. But everyday for 7 years he was in the lineup . Hardly missed any games in that span.
  3. According to what Hostetler said on the broadcast a dew days ago it is narrowed down to around 6 guys and he said discussions are and will be ongoing until close to the draft.
  4. Of course he is irritating but never overly rude . He just never lets us forget how bad Hahn and company are. That's not a bad thing . I mean look at all the AB's Alonso is getting, Do you think it's a good idea that they are going full bore to vest his option for next year ? I know they can stop it by releasing him any time but whats the point of constantly playing him ? He didn't get Machado to come here , he hasn't hit well . Was he a good soldier for being available to talk about his bro in law constantly ? Yes . Is that worth $20M ? Hell no !
  5. How could that be? He had his surgery in March 2019 before Rodon and Rodon is expected back the 2nd half of 2020 ?
  6. Some of you people have to leave your computers and get out more if skipping over off topic posts wears you out . Topics take detours its a fact of message boards.
  7. Should check out and thats a white sox winner once in a while. I posted it there after his 50th,
  8. I am a fan of alliteration but there's something a bit off in that title.
  9. You don't ever catch up if you are always copying sounds good but most likely untrue. It's a copycat world whether it's sport ,tech, automotive, music, or a popular format for movies. Some copy and do it even better. Some are just updating and going with a proven model . One thing is for sure, get the physical equipment you need to analyze and hire people experienced with using those tools and you catch up in a hurry. One other thing if the people you have cannot adapt then adios.
  10. I'm Leury's Soxtalk daddy for those of you who remember AAP (adopt a prospect) so y'all be nice to my boy.
  11. Besides the 4 he mentioned there's a FA starter in his plans and also Dunning should be in the mix though I am not sure if a year is sufficient time to recover from TJ. Rodon can't be counted on til maybe the 2nd half of the 2020 season. There's also Covey who I know you love and Baneulos and probably a handful of cheap guys this coming off season just like there were last off season. Just maybe aim a little higher than Santana and Banuelos.
  12. They make sense to you and me but they won't to many looking to this season as a stepping stone into contention next year. But the talent level in the minors is drying up quickly especially with poor performances so far from the AA guys. I think we can't waste trade resources anymore on guys below AA or failed guys on their last legs Let the draft replenish the lower levels or use your international bonus money wisely. Or trade for a decent AA guy plus more international money. Just something different than us trading our bonus pool money away for once. There is so much money uncommitted to next year and it will be even more if ABreu and Colome are traded and if ALonso isn't allowed to get his option vested. I think if you can snag a quality FA early in the process it would give the Sox more credibility as to their intentions and might spur other FA's to take the Sox as a destination more seriously.
  13. If we think the Sox can get into the playoffs next year and sign a few guys in the off season then younger and possibly better might not help next year. Happ could help next year. Then again if you are trading Colome or/and ABreu that might indicate to some that the Sox don't think they can get into the playoffs next year. I don't think that's necessarily the case. If you can get a significant trade piece for Colome/Abreu then you do it. Abreu can always be a FA agent acquisition and while relievers that produce as well as Colome might be harder to find there is no guarantee Colome will pitch as well the second half of the season or next year given that some of his outstanding numbers are due for regression. These are tough calls no doubt and I'm glad I don't have o make them. It's the offers that will determine if they are traded, not if the Sox think they can contend next year.
  14. I guess the point of me asking you that question was lost on you. I can also surmise that me posting the link with his recent resurgence in the minors was also lost on you. Just to be accurate his current BA in the minors is .238 and his K rate is 25.5 . If you had bothered to read the article you would know this instead of posting lower inaccurate totals to support your case. So I'll do you a favor and post some of that article to make it easier on you. I know it might be difficult to consider that a guy who has already had some success in the majors and won't be a FA until 2024 and is still shy of his 25th birthday might not be a finished product yet. Maybe you wee one of those guys saying Giolito or Moncada sucked. From the link I provided earlier : Over the week-plus, however, it looks as though Happ may be putting some things together. He didn’t homer in his first 10 games of the season and had only two dingers through his first 21 games. But he’s now hit four homers in his last 11 games and his other counting stats are looking quite a bit better as well . From a tweet posted May 30th in that article: Solo blast for Ian Happ in the third inning bumps the @IowaCubs lead up to 2-0. Homer #8 for Happ, which now ties him for the team-lead with Trent Giambrone. Happ is now 8-for-18 (.444) over his last five games, 12-for-33 (.363) over his last 9 games. And lastly from the article: If, that is, you consider a .324 average and .649 slugging percentage over 10 games to be good. Happ is still striking out a lot more than he’s walking, but you’ll live with a 25.5% mark there. And though his .207 average as a lefty isn’t going to raise any eyebrows, his .353 OBP is a clear sign that he’s seeing the ball well from that side. What’s more, two of the four homers and one of the three doubles he’s hit over the last 10 games have come from the left side. Given how much lower his season-long splits are as a lefty, a power surge may be in the offing for Happ. I'm not saying Happ is the end all be all of possible guys the Sox could get for Colome just that it isn't as clear cut as you seem to think.
  15. No because he didn't say anything that bad. Yes he said your comment was BS but that's not an uncommon thing when 2 people take opposing points of view. He didn't say it was stupid or idiotic he just said it wasn't true and he was pretty accurate in that assessment in regards to it not being the best offer and him wanting to play in SD. he already knows that it wasn't the best RAW offer as you put it. but that's hardly the point now is it ? If you think that was taking it in the ass then you will have a hard time here when things get way more heated. Just my .02 worth . I'll butt out now.
  16. Well I think pitching should be the top priority and that means if not Cole then maybe Bumgarner or even Quintana. Someone like Rendon on the infield would be huge. Maybe he would play 2nd base , maybe Yoan goes back to 2nd base. I know many here wouldn't want to move him as they might tie his better bat this year to the move to 3rd base and also think he is a better 3rd baseman than a 2nd baseman. It also depends on who gets a QO . I'm not as sold on Ozuna or Castellanos as some are. I think you have to get the pitching 1st otherwise uograding any other part of the roster becomes meaningless unless you expect Dunning, Kopech , Rodon all to pitch well coming off injuries and Cease to be above average next year ,. Also would be very helpful if Lopez can start being more consistent. Long way to go this season so trying to project the best course of action for next year is still not something I like to do. Even Covey has shown flashes . He's still youngish and despite most peoples impatience with him he should be given as many chances as he can to be an effective starter or reliever. That's the whole point of a rebuild. It happened with McCann ( to this point anyway) so it can happen to anyone given ample opportunity. Scooter Gennett might be an option at 2nd base . He's a left handed bat and right handed arm and his last 2 years have been very productive even though he has yet to play this year due to injury. I wouldn't just pencil in Madrigal as an option next year. He still has a lot to prove in the minors
  17. Not well said . Those kind of comments will get you suspended.
  18. Were you here for the whole thread and the anger that resulted from not signing Machado ? Pretty much everyone thought that the Sox offer, while a lot for a Sox offer, was simply just not adequate. While such a long term contract is debatable as far as it's ultimate worth. what is not debatable is the offer was not as good as the Padres. Adding incentives that ask a much older Machado to play a certain amount of games is/was just a way for the Sox to try and hedge their bets knowing full well the chances of Machado achieving the incentives was probably quite low. If, with incentives, the contract was worth $350 M and the Sox think that the incentives were easily attainable then why not just offer $300M guaranteed and save yourself $50M ? It is actually plain and simple Machado took the best deal and saying it was plain and simple is accurate and not some kind of insult from Moan4Yoan. If you are going to debate or argue with someone who calls your take on the situation BS you cannot be so thin skinned about it.Your over reaction was way worse in the common decency department than his post. I have had plenty of arguments with him but he is usually pretty fair even if he does repeat himself over and over regarding how bad the Sox have done and until proven otherwise he is correct in that assessment. At this point the Sox really have to prove they are willing to spend money on superior players like Cole, Rendon or others who would be a huge upgrade. I/we can hope all we want and get excited about the off season but people were super excited about Machado and Harper and angered beyond belief at not getting one of them and the lame excuses that came from Kenny Williams . Many here are now echoing Moan4Yoans sentiments that the Sox will never pay for premium talent. I still think they will and should but I'm certainly not counting on it.
  19. What's your idea of a mid level prospect ? Give me some names from Atlanta, Boston , Dodgers, Cubs that fit your thinking .
  20. This Cubs Insider guy is pretty fair . Here's some articles about Colome and Ian Happ's recent resurgence . https://www.cubsinsider.com/2019/06/01/cubs-search-for-closer-in-column-b-scout-white-sox-closer-alex-colome/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+CubsInsider+(Cubs+Insider) https://www.cubsinsider.com/2019/05/31/hey-looks-like-ian-happs-coming-around-in-iowa/
  21. McCann has done so well his name is also being mentioned in a good article (Good as in presenting all the facts good and bad from his past and present ) in MLBtraderumors. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/05/james-mccann-offensive-force.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MlbTradeRumors+(MLB+Trade+Rumors)
  22. Brad Hand for Cleveland is maybe as well some might say better . He has more saves and a higher WAR and lower ERAbut he also has 2 losses and while his WHIP is great Colome's is even greater. Hand also strikes out more guys than Colome which is what teams trying to get out of tough situations look for.
  23. I'm actually not otherwise I wouldn't have made the post. Maybe it's not in this thread. maybe it is but I have seen posts about bringing up Cease,Robert,Madrigal getting Keuchel and Kimbrel and going for it this year.
  24. Actually I think there's a good chance he gets promoted to Charlotte this year and starts with the Soc next year. To many on Soxtalk who thinks he should be called up this year, mine is the more conservative approach. Yours is ultra conservative if he continued on the path he is right now. Beckham has nothing to do with Robert.
