Nah the time isn't now. The time could be next year. But if you expect much from rookie pitchers or guys coming off TJ surgery you might be in for a rude awakening next year too. -

WOw nice comeback from 1st and 3rd no outs to allowing no runs. -
I already said I recognize winning is a piece of the puzzle, It also come when you have individual young players doing great. Trout , Soto , Harper, Guerrero Jr, Acuna are young guns who have't done much winning but have garnered a lot of national attention. I realize it's no big deal but the more national recognition you get on a consistent basis and the more young studs you have that results in a winning team gets you there.

Rick Hahn and his Trades
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Look at Ray Ray Run's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Hahn is so full of shit. Even if what he says is true it was a trade that in and of itself was remarkably misguided. When the Shields trade was announced hardly anyone here wanted him The board was overwhelmingly against it and that was not really from knowing much about Tatis but because we knew so much about Shields. He was just a bad pitcher who wasn't getting any better and thinking he would help some magical 2nd half run was nonsense. All Hahn is doing is spinning a negative into a positive to make the FO mistake not seem like such a big mistake. Every time he open his mouth I can see his forked tongue, They should've asked themselves why they thought a bad pitcher who was just blasted by the owner could become a good pitcher and why they wanted him for 3 years when if they truly wanted to win that year they could have targeted a better pitcher for just that particular year. -
I don't know about you but playing second fiddle to the Cubs I do not like and part of changing that culture is producing talent and winning. National recognition is one piece of the puzzle in changing that. The OP is right. Usually the 1st pitcher to win 10 games while also in the middle of a personal renaissance and tremendous hot streak with a budding superstar HR hitter who had a big day is something MLB likes. MLB stories are like advertising for the game. MLB usually does a better job of advertising the games young stars. The casual and die hard fans go there to vote for All Stars and stay up on the latest trending players. During the World Series in 2005 the Sox had no superstars and there wasn't really much fanfare about that particular WS . It just wasn't a sexy match up . So yes I want the Sox to be a sexy team drawing headlines around the globe like other teams do. If Houston can do it so can the Sox.

The argument to keep Avi Garcia
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to vilehoopster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You might be one of a very few who think that. I know the rest of us are using hindsight but there was no reason to sign a 34 year old whose best days were behind him . Talking about his past means nothing when a guy is that old. He wasn't fast anymore .More than likely if the Sox don't give him $4M he signs a minor league deal. It wasn't even close to a reasonable add when they just could've non tendered Avi then resigned him like TB did. Jay had no upside at all while AVi still did. This is still a rebuild and one of your goals is to dumpster dive for guys with some upside, not sign washed up players. They did it with Cordell, Tilson, Gillaspie, Banuelos, Marshall , Osich, McCann. The list goes on and on. To totally ignore his relationship with Machado is baffling since that seems to be the only reasonable explanation to why the Sox signed him . -
Possible long-term SP trade targets for 2019 TDL?

Brent Honeywell Pitcher Right February 27, 2018 [124] Alex Dickerson Outfielder March 2018 [73] Rafael Montero Pitcher Right March 2018 [173] David Phelps Pitcher Right March 2018 [196] Joe Mantiply Pitcher March 9, 2018 [157] José De León Pitcher Right March 13, 2018 [69] Jharel Cotton Pitcher Right March 21, 2018 [58] Dinelson Lamet Pitcher Right April 2018 [144] J. There are also a few position players in there. I picked the Kopech cut off date because I assume most on them will be back before Kopech is. A few might be back already. I haven't checked. Might find a few candidates on this list since they may come cheaper after surgery. I haven't gone over the list but Honeywell Jr. would be interesting. Had had TJ and has had a few setbacks and just had another surgery for a fractured elbow during a side session. He was once a top rated prospect and hasn't pitched since 2017. During the elbow surgery they checked on the integrity of his TJ surgery and found everything OK. https://www.tampabay.com/sports/rays/2019/06/08/rays-prospect-brent-honeywell-out-for-season-after-fracturing-elbow-throwing-a-pitch/ Jordan Montgomery might be another guy. He is likely to start pitching for the Yankees some time in the 2nd half of the season unless he has a set back. However if you could get him for Colome do you do it ? Keynan Middleton is another intriguing arm. -

CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
As am I . I'd rather just sign a lefty like Bumgarner. Career wise he mirrors Lester in a lot of ways. Hate to say it but Strasburg is a loser and Bumgarner is a winner just as Lester was. It's all so clear. Jon Lester is a lefty who won a WS with the Red Sox then switched leagues signed as a FA with a Chicago team and won another WS. Bumgarner is a lefty who won a few WS for SF will then switch leagues and sign as a FA with a Chicago team and win another WS. It's karma repeating itself in a Chicago cycle. Spend the money. No need to trade. Let the assets who were once considered assets become assets. We have developed some guys at the ML level but that doesn't mean they will all follow a similar path. Hang onto the minor leaguers. Give them time to recover and make adjustments -
The argument to keep Avi Garcia
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to vilehoopster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sox traded for Alsonso 1st didn't they ? I mean if you thought you might get Machado by getting his bro in law why bother to sign Jay ? Heck Adam Jones was a teammate of Machado and he signed for $3M + another $2M in incentives. So less than Jay in guaranteed money. What's with the Sox not being creative enough to add incentives to low cost guys ? I thought Hahn's thing was contracts. Even if they didn't want Avi back despite him showing signs of average and power his last 2 years why pass on Jones a much better and younger guy than Jay ? They just took the whole family and friends plan way too far. They had the right idea with McCann a youngish candidate for a bounce back type year though few if any thought he would be as good as he has been, not just the hitting but the defense , the arm, the game calling ,the game planning. All that work with Verlander and Scherzer must have paid off. They could've done the same with Avi who is a year younger than McCann almost to the day. Or even Jonathon Schoop who is just a bit younger than Avi, another bounce back type guy and another team mate of Machado's and his double play partner. We talk about Kenny talking out of his ass enough but Hahn did it too when they acquired both Alonso and Jay spouting this: "Fundamentally, this is a baseball deal," Hahn said. "We feel this makes us better. We like how Yonder fits in between the lines and in the clubhouse, and helps further what we're trying to accomplish in 2019 and beyond. "The potential ancillary benefits to it in terms of his relationships with others really can't be part of pulling the trigger in making the decision to acquire a big-league player, especially a veteran one with this type of contract commitment." On a conference call Thursday to discuss the signing of Jon Jay to a one-year, $4 million contract, Hahn had similar thoughts. Jay is close friends with Machado and Alonso, and the trio are regular workout partners during the off-season. To clear a roster spot for Jay, the Sox designated New Trier High School product Charlie Tilson for assignment. "We are very pleased to add him," Hahn said of Jay. "Obviously, much has been made about his relationships with other players and other potential free-agent targets, and I can certainly tell you that we signed Jon Jay -- and he's been on our target list all off-season as well as other off-seasons -- for what he brings on and off the field, not because of his relationships with any other specific targets." https://www.dailyherald.com/sports/20190110/jay-signing-adds-another-layer-of-intrigue-to-white-soxs-pursuit-of-machado -

He's got incentives in the contract that could make it as high as $6M if he reaches 650 plate appearances with steps along the way that give him $250K for AB number 350 and $250K for every 50 AB's up to 600 then another $1M for 650 -
Future White Sox Lineup #GetExcited

Scooter Gennett plays some OF. I don't know how well but he is a lefty with some pop , Madrigal is starting to look like a surer bet to make it before any of the minor league Outfielders at this point. -

This was my 1st choice but obviously not as well known as Katy Perry's song. But this is one of Springsteens best. Not as sexy as Katy either. I kinda like Thunder by Imagine Dragons thinking Moncada and Eloy can be the Lightning and the Thunder. Maybe when Robert gets here since he is La Pantera you can hear him Roar. Come on up for the Rising ! All 3 great songs for the rising of the Sox. -

Not my 1st choice as inspirational song, But I imagine it playing at The Grate as a good song to get the crowd in the mood for the future roar. Plus the chorus is catchy and her oh oh oh oh oh oha chant is also something a crowd can do as one. -

There we go. You are the man. The White Sox WINNER thread is a tradition at Soxtalk but has been losing steam since SS2k5 disappeared along with Caulfield. Was bummed not to see one yesterday after such a nice comeback win. Let's keeo it up Sox fans even if 2 or more winner threads get started they can be merged, Oh yeah and make sure you vote some Sox players into the All Star game by doing all you votes every day. -

My screen name doesn't exactly roll of the tongue like yours or stick in anyones head. If i had known anything about message boards when I joined I would've picked a cooler name. Hell even initialized CSFVSWS is no good. Cali doesn't work either because there's like 5 of us maybe more. I'm not even sure if my whole name shows up it's so long. Eeven if I used my real name after all this time I'd just be know as the other Ron. -

Herrera was good until he hurt his back and lost 5-6 MPH on his fastball. It is back now. Evan Marshall 15.1 IP and still no earned runs. Bummer's ERA is around 1.50
