Hey here's a name I haven't seen mentioned though he doesn't have much pop so starting OF is probably out but as a quality supersub probably one of the best around, Brock Holt. He's missed a lot of time this year and will be a FA. He's lefty can play 3rd, 2nd, 1st, SS and OF. When he has played he's been hitting very well and the last couple years has really learned to take walks so his OBP has been good too. He's kind of in the same old as my Scooter Gennett suggestion. Gennett is a bit younger and both have had injuries this year but where Gennett has struggled at the plate , Holt has shined in his limited appearances. Gennett definitely has a lot more pop and had some nice years in 2017 and 2018. I ilke them both along with Corey Dickerson. None of them should be prohibitively expensive and the bench could use an upgrade. Yolmer isn't the answer and Leury isn't either.

It just makes you hate the Alonso and Jay acquisitions even more ( something I thought was impossible.), They could've kept Avi for what they paid Jay. How does a rebuilding team do that ? Sign a 34 yr old slow as hell OF who then proceeds to hardly play and give up on a then 27 yr old guy who just the year before hit .330 and has a great arm in right and is pretty fast to boot. I understand the non tender but they still could've negotiated with him and gave him a slightly better incentive laden deal the way TB did and also give an option year since the minor league OF's were still a couple years away. I know the vast majority wanted him gone but turns out I was right arguing after the season exactly what I said here, non tender then resign.

The reaction in the game thread when Jose hit the HR was priceless. No one typing .... JOSE !!! Just a few comments about that guy who starts all the Abreu threads. Funny thing is people are now agreeing with him and taking Jose for granted. If his strtegy was to bomard us with crap about Abreu until he showed even the slightest decline it's worked . Because he is a bad fielder any drop off in offensive production, no matter how slight, people are talking about him now as if he sucks. But if you praise him you have to also say that not scoring on the great catch by Mercado with the bases loaded and 1 out was just plain inexcusable and added more fuel to the fire.

Abreu's a good guy. He must be kicking himself. Probably just got excited seeing the ball hit so hard and thinking the game could be tied. Inexcusable of course in that situation regardless.

Would still surprise me. The Sox desperately want a success story. No one of all the scrubs they have picked up has even given an inkling that they belong on an MLB team . Even if it's a DH he deserves as much of a chance as all the other guys they has given playing time to. The problem is the rebuild is nearing being a somewhat finished product and if they plan on spending and filling the DH role or putting Abreu at DH then he won't get a chance.

He's got over 2000 AB's in the minors . Spent 3 years in the DSL from 2011-2013 only hit 2 HR's. 2014 looks like he played in the Domican Winter League, United League and Pecos League. 2015 finally got into A ball with Baltimore, 2016 at 23 yrs old. A and A+ in Baltimore's system. 2017 A+ and AA with Baltimore. Looks like he always played Dominican Winter ball those last 2 years to get more AB's. 2018 Sox got him and stuck him A+ probably because Collins and Zavala were ahead of him at AA. He was now 25 and still in A+. 2019 AA and AA with the Sox and he tore it up at both levels combining for a .317 .388 .581 .968 slash line and doing even better in AAA than AA mainly because of juiced ball in AAA and better hitting park than Birmingham. His defense probably held him back more than anything but in those over 2000 MiLB AB's he has a lifetime .302 batting average and the power has really come on with the Sox.

It's not like Parkman was ever the 1st one on Soxtalk to think a prospect had no chance at being a productive major league player. Look how many think Rutherford will never make it or any of the Sox OF prospects.
