I said this 14 pages ago. The 1st 2 sentences ring a bit truer now don't they ? Their are more plants in Twitter than there are in the Amazon Rainforest. Guy like this are slapping the White Sox in the face and most of us are turning the other cheek or rolling over and saying "Thank you sir, may I have another "? Are we all gonna be b****es on our knees wearing a collar and leash or are we going to be John Belushi asking "was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor ?" Who's with me ? Let's go !!!

Oh I understand but then when Arenaado and Rendon and all the whale pitchers become available next year how do we entice them because we suck and aren't competitive ? I remember my very earliest posts on Machado and Harper were arguing we wouldn't be a destination because we are so bad and all I kept hearing is it's all about the money. I came around to thinking we had a chance because of the money and the approach to making Machado feel at home here. So now all we hear is maybe it's not all just about the money with those 2. Do we go into next off season after sucking still thinking it's all about the money or was the Machado and Harper sagas just different from most FA's ?

Sox interested in Encarnacion per Morosi
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to HeGetzUs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So do you think there are any teams actually in on Machado and Harper that we haven't heard about? That's basically what you are saying because the Sox , Phillies, Yankees , Dodgers and Cubs so far are the only one connected to them and none of them has been quiet about it . The Yankees even went so far as to say they would need an explanation about his Johnny Hustle comments which seems pretty strange if you really want the guy . Why put him on the defensive ?I bet the Sox didn't even bring that up. -
And therein lies the rub. You see a lot of complaining here that the Sox are an undesirable team because they are so bad and that's why the whales won't come here. Then you see if neither whale signs here then stay the course. In other words suck for another year thereby being in the same situation when it comes to getting FA's. It's a classic Catch 22. In order to be attractive to FA's we must be good but if we can't sign FA's then suck again and continue to be unattractive to FA's. And round and round we go.

Anybody doing anything because of Clark is laughable. No one denies or confirms him because he is a hack and no one wants to legitimize him by mentioning him at all. He still could be right but it's just guess work hoping to legitimize himself. If you can grab a headline as the first to break that Machado is a Yankee news you become semi famous and it gets you more clicks . I don't fully understand how twitter works but can advertisers also pay him for ad space too ? In the end he is just a fan boy with illusions of grandeur wiling to sacrifice his soul ( integrity) to make headlines and get his 15 minutes of fame. After all he's got a decent chance of being right just by playing the percentages plus Machado's preference. Basically a calculated risk close enough to Machado's" after the new year" statement as to get credit for breaking it but not far enough away to think offers haven't been submitted yet .

He does have basically a 33% chance if he's choosing among 3 teams. 50% if he thinks Machado doesn't like Philadelphia. That leaves Sox and Yanks. Given that choice who would most east coast writers/bloggers/TV pundits pick ? Who would your average baseball fan pick ? Who would most White Sox fans pick ? I don't know if wanting apologizes from those sending him hate tweets right now is trolling. Hell if I knew I was right I'd want apologizes too. But if he is wrong will he dole out an apology ?

Somebody could be using him too. Maybe Machado is bummed the Yankees didn't offer him as much as the Sox did so he or agent has someone troll the Yankees though this guy. Who knows maybe some of these twitter guys get offered a bribe to tweet certain things. In a twitterverse full of attention seekers and phonies and tricksters and who knows what other unsavory characters until we wise up and stop giving out the clicks all this crap is going to continue. Seriously what good is it ? It's like a soap opera . Just show me the end result. It's fascinating and macabre and fun to discuss but to let it get you high or low might as well use a needle.

Would it make anyone feel better if someone who was signed by a team helped recruit another player who then actually signed with the same team ? New second baseman Jonathan Schoop, who signed with the Twins on Dec. 6, knows Cruz from their one season together with Baltimore in 2014 — when Cruz led the American League with 40 home runs. Schoop, like a savvy hitter, sold Cruz on joining the Twins, a team that went 78-84 last season but still has emerging talent. He also sold the Twins on Cruz, telling them about how the veteran slugger was a great influence on him and another young Orioles infielder, Manny Machado. from here: http://www.startribune.com/slugger-nelson-cruz-reportedly-signs-with-twins/503559412/

Did you miss the part about him being a FA after the year ? No way on any good prospects. Plus you have to remember Sonny Gray played his good years in Oakland where mediocre pitchers become good pitcher. Mike Fiers did very well in Oakland last year . Hell even Edwin Jackson pitched well there last year.

Yanks still trying to deal away Sonny Gray. Brewers interested but Yanks pretty much burned their bridges on Gray so the early high asking price was a joke. Will be a free agent after 2019 season and was bad in Yankee Stadium but pretty good on the road. Low ball the Yanks and see if they can beat the Brewers offer. He also indirectly dissed Gary Sanchez by saying Austin Romine was good at making in game adjustments. Slight chance the Yankees keep him but this is what Cashman said about him : “We are going to move him if we get the right deal because I don’t think it is going to work out in The Bronx, I don’t feel like we can go through the same exercise and expect different results.” That was back in early November.

Oh right of course I could include many positive since each year brings renewed hope. But just was responding to the question " How so " when Baron said " things weren't going exactly as planned.

Nah then you would hear Gordan Beckham's name a lot more.
-
You could also add how great Hansen looked one year then how terrible he looked the other, Fulmer implosion, Giolito the same, Moncada looking not like a superstar or even a star so far, Burger's injury, Roberts lack of playing time due to a series of injuries, Burdi's injury and Collins hit tool and defensive problems. Even an optimist would consider those things worrisome.

Everyone needs to cut Caulfield some slack. The Chinese opium is really superior to anything else.

Quality post. I have often wondered why it isn't illegal or at least against some kind of baseball rule to actually bid against yourself. It's hard to phrase this right. If there is a highest bid why can an agent manipulate the media that creates panic in an otherwise also smart and media savvy MLB front office to up an existing offer. Is it against the law for an agent to just come out and tell the bidding team that they do not have the highest bid when they actually do ? Is it collusion if Hahn calls the Phillies GM and says look the highest we are going is X and if you can beat that he is yours unless he likes us a lot more than you.
