  1. Hey I can't help what you said. It's there in black and white. Historical expected primes don't apply to today or to every player You can't argue about his age 29 season still being his prime when you then listed his prime from 21-26. And actually I just looked it up and you were wrong about that too. It was his age 20-25 seasons from the WAR's you listed. It's now 3 subpar seasons (age 26 1.0 WAR age 27 1.0 , age 28 2.0 ) later and you're saying he's still in his prime when his 26- 28 seasons were not nearly as good as his other younger prime. You can't have your cake and eat it too. You cannot now say his prime was age 20-29. Based on his stats his prime was 20-25 .Since he's been with the Cubs he's got 4 WAR in 3 seasons. Yes Epstein made a huge mistake paying him that much . He contributed 1 WAR the year the Cubs won the World Series and most of that was with the glove since he was so bad hitting that year. Comparing him to other players matters not as each individual player has their own prime , I could say Bryce Harper's prime was certainly younger since his best 2 seasons were age 22 and 24. We will just have to wait and see if he is still capable of putting up similar seasons from age 26 and beyond.
  2. hah Merry Christmas to you too. But I didn't take it away. Notice I said 90% out on Harper which leaves the door slightly ajar for the purpose of saying we are out but not really out which tells Boras hurry your Bor-ass the hell up . We don't have all off season to play around.
  3. I would prefer multiple years of the playoffs.... and winning multiple World Series. #bestanswer
  4. We have seen it out there now from the Yanks , Phillies and the Sox about pulling back the reins. It could mean anything. It could be part of some MLB plan to collude but not collude "wink" just as a way for them to say the bidding is over or nearly over , don't expect any more or much higher offers.
  5. Plus each agent has to know that if we sign one we're probably out on the 2nd one. So they have to keep that in mind when there aren't a lot of high bidders. I can imagine Hahn calling Boras and telling him hey just as a heads up we are going to sign Machado and right now you should consider us 90% out on Bryce.
  6. I agree with the post except for the part where you said they are just entering their prime. Harper and Machado have already put up great seasons. Those have to be considered as "prime " years unless you expect them to get much better. Prime varies from player to player. In baseball prime was always considered after a few seasons in the bigs , gaining knowledge added to a physical peak. But it's already 6-7 yrs. in the bigs. Their physical gifts and their added knowledge has already got them where they are now. I'm sure both have some very good years left but I'd bet against looking for career years but they are still capable of equaling some of those years.
  7. Sometimes this is too easy, In the 1st post you argue Heyward isn't past his prime because he's only 29 years old. 2nd post you list his "prime" between his age 21-26 seasons which the stats clearly show using your own example.
  8. I'm almost at the point where the Sox have a real good shot. The Sox aren't out on either guy and there's no front runner in my mind.
  9. CIH I applaud your efforts . True fan numero uno !
  10. If you want my advice For a little slice of Bryce To entice Bryce For the right price You have to be twice as nice To be precise and concise Don't be cold as ice Or else no dice !
  11. And you can bet your ass both their agents will be telling them "Take the money kid" because they know a healthy future is not guaranteed.
  12. A fair point ? It's the only point. There's no reason to leave a ton of money on the table. It's not a matter of $150-200M setting them up for life anyway. It's grab as much as you can when you can. A $300+M contract is GUARANTEED while having a healthy enough body to bet on yourself 4 years down the road isn't .
  13. I was wondering when someone would offer up the most logical explanation from the Reds side. There's no way they are looking to compete in 2019. Maybe they aren't quite ready to dump their good player and instead got some guys who they can flip. It differs from the way the Sox did it in that respect since after all our major pieces were gone all we did was sign relievers and hope some AAAA talent might all of a sudden become something which hasn't worked. Only a handful on this board wanted the Sox to try to get some better assets to flip last year. This might not work for the Reds and they really should try to move Votto who isn't getting any younger. Yes it's a strange plan if that's the case so who knows .
  14. Thank you . It's utter nonsense to draw any conclusions at the moment. Has the shine worn off? Of course it has however in the case of baseball players the shine can come back.
  15. That's all I was saying since it was proposed as a way to help the Dodgers get Harper if they want him and have to clear payroll space. No one including the Sox should make it easy on them. I'm sure there can be all kinds of trade scenarios that could include Taylor or guys more valuable to us then guys with looming FA years in a year or 2 like Puig Wood and Pederson. Taking those 3 would be a huge help to them and very little to the Sox.
  16. Was just saying he's a better guy to get then Pederson, Puig or Wood. Do you disagree ? I wasn't the one proposing helping the Dodgers do anything. I just didn't like the names mentioned as a return for helping them.
  17. Other's mentioned Chris Taylor. Plays CF and the other OF positions, Has played 3rd base,SS and 2nd base also, plus had a 4 WAR last year and has 3 years of control left. Much more suitable to the Sox.
  18. Those names should just be thrown out rather then thrown out there. They do nothing to help the rebuild. Would make us better in 2019 that's about it unless you just want to flip them. But Puig is a tough sell on anyone . Pederson and Wood coming to the AL I don't trust.
  19. What's so special about those 3 ? Puig and Wood are FA's in 2020 . Pederson in 2021 . That's 4 total years with the Sox between 3 players. . I'd want way better than that .
  20. Yea kinda reminded me of the whole Germans bombing Pearl Harbor thing.
  21. but but you never knock the King off the board in chess. You just trap his ass till he has no moves to make. ?
