Covey was a rule 5 pick last year who had only 6 games of AA experience. It's pretty easy to understand why he got hit around. Imagine Kopech or Dunning and Hansen brought up that fast. If he wasn't a Rule 5 pick he would still be in the minors last year and probably ranked somewhere between 15-20 in the Sox top prospects with an upward arrow with how well he pitched in AAA this year while gaining a few ticks on his fastball.

How strange would it be if Covey turned out to be what Gio was supposed to be ?

I highly doubt Castillo would've had much if any effect on signing Machado.If anything Machado may want to distance himself from Castillo now. If I had to guess I'd say the Sox just allow him to come back after his 80 games .

Jeanmar Gomez (30 yrs old) has been pitching pretty good for Charlotte and had 3 good years in MLB but his last 2 trys with the Phillies were disasters. He might be a AAA pitcher at this point but he should be given another shot.

Would it be terrible if I thought the Dash outfield could do better than Engel and Thompson ?

I know the obvious answer. It's just a slower process when you have trouble bringing your good stuff from start to start. He's not a big guy and I'd prefer the Sox tread lightly and keep his arm fresher. Right now I'd think they just need to concentrate on keeping an eye on his innings for the season rather than pushing the limits on individual starts. If he pitches north of 175 inning this year that's enough for me. Going nine is a thing of the past except on rare occasions now.
