Some might have some wouldn't.Etiquette means not trying to make your guest look silly especially when he was there to talk about the guys he coached not try to answer a crazy question out of left field about the 2027 rotation. I wouldn't have asked that question. There was plenty to talk about with the guys he coached. I would have liked to hear about Peyton Pallette too .

CWS Acquire Reliever Cam Booser from BOS
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is what will happen. Boston's pair of 37 yr old LH relief pitchers Chapman and Justin Wilson will both break down before the deadline and they will trade for Booser back and give up Fajardo and another guy . -

Fajardo of course. he's not going to say anything good about this trade. -

Wilson can still be traded. I'm sure they're hoping for a bounce back healthier year for him. -
Draft Kings sets Sox O/U at 49.5 wins

They were trying to tank. The 2023 team had 101 losses and anyone with any value was traded by Hahn and Kenny at the trade deadline for prospects. What did you think that was all about ? So the owner lied to us. Most didn't believe him anyway but I guess some did and we keep hearing about it. We knew very early there was no budget for the 2024 .We knew that in December of 2023. Getz talked about changing the culture and better defense but he had hardly any money to spend just like now. Unfortunately he's learning on the job and he's made mistakes. The Fedde, Kopech, Pham trade was weird and bad. But I don't think he crippled the franchise going forward. He's made a lot of smart hires this off season and there's a lot of pitching depth and he finally found a team willing to give up decent position player prospects . That hasnt been easy in the environment of prospect hugging .Even then I don't think it hurt the Red Sox all that much. They kept their top 3 position player prospects and dealt their # 4 and 5 . If you want to see progress and not a record like 2024 you're going to have to accept the fact that the bullpen and hitting need to get better soon to make up for the loss of Crochet and Fedde. Young starting pitchers and young bullpen pitchers too. But again JR isn't allowing him to spend that much money. We may not see any multi years contracts like we saw Fedde get 2 years last off season. But as much as you seem to dislike Getz there's no way he thought they could compete in 2024 with Fedde and a bunch of garbage pail signings. Crochet wanted to be a starting pitcher so Getz said Ok. Probably thought he's got a great arm .I got some great pitching coaches. Let's give it a shot and maybe we can get something good for him because there's no way JR would approve an extension and we need some hitters. Not many here expected it to turn out as well as it did. He got some decent AA arms for Eloy and Grossman I'm theory no you don't want to trade an 18 yr old for a 32 year old like what just happened but there is a surplus of arms but still maybe not enough MLB arms if you want some positive WAR in the BP. At least you got 3 options and a few years to see if he can be flipped for more . Rebuilds are also harder now with anti tanking rules that deprive the really bad teams of high draft choices in consecutive years which is why teams are position player prospects clutching. They don't get injured for as long as pitchers who need TJ surgery. But guys like Burger, Eloy, Moncada and Robert defied that logic multiple times. -

Ok I'll trust you on this but what's your point ? So someone made a mistake on a guy 2 levels below him who he doesn't know a lot about. He admitted he didn't know much about Hagen Smith too. He's not Bannister or Getz he was the AA pitching coach. He only mentioned Taylor in passing as a guy he knew of who had a lot of potential. He's not as familiar with him. His greater point was it was very difficult to try to name the starting 5 on the 2027 White Sox when he's not familiar with all the pitchers. Maybe he just watched Logan or Logan Lucky.

They talked about his height and the challenges it presents. I'm about 6'5.5 and I was 6 '4" as a HS Sr. I had a teammate on the basketball team who was 6'5" and grew another 6 inches after he was 18 and led North Park a division 3 Christian Chicago college to 3 straight basketball titles. I just get a kick out of listening to Ben Badler of Baseball America talking about him and saying 6'9 about 3 times in a recent podcast that discussed the Crochet trade and the Central division farm teams. He's like .5 inch taller than Randy Johnson is listed on Baseball Reference.

I meant to say I'm no expert btw on the farm system like the guys on Future Sox are. And do I push back against stuff ? Sure I do. There's quite a few bullies here and I don't like people getting ridiculed. So if I call people out so be it but I only push back. I do not make a habit of using trigger words or phrases when actually discussing baseball in a civil manner. I have confidence in my baseball knowledge and my ability to be objective and not let my love or hate for the team cloud my judgement . I do understand the current owner of the team is a huge obstacle and casts a dark cloud over many opinions. I voice my criticism of him quite often and give his employees a lot of leeway because of that. Even if they appear incompetent it's mainly because they weren't hired in many instances because of their qualifications and are put in situations where it's easier to fail because of financial or other restrictions imposed by the owner.

I heard that too but given the amount of joking around and talking over each other I don't really know if that was about Grant Taylor. Couldve been about some college player who didn't go on to pro ball. I think BA and Ely have some history together . Their paths may have crossed in 2010 or so. They're 4 yrs apart . They could've been teammates at some level.
-
Oh I don't . I know that there are people who don't post their cautiously optimistic views because you have to preface everything you say with I'm no Getz supporter. I also know that all but only the top prospects are truly visible to most Sox fans even the ones who post here so trying to commit more names to the 2025 team of 100+ losses doesn't matter. I'm NO Sox farm expert like the Future Sox guys but I have noticed that they are a pretty optimistic group but they stick to the podcasts. James Fox is the only one who ventures into Palehose talk and even he's been getting slammed a little for his opinions. Sometimes you have to dig deeper, outside the top 30 Sox prospects to find guys to help the team especially that trio of relief pitchers , Coffey, Schonele (I think I finally am getting the spelling right) and Peyton Pallette.

Austin Slater ,part of the Sox projected RF platoon for 2025 along with Mike Tauchman. He's RH has solid career numbers OBP and OPS against LHP. Just turned 32. So weak side of the platoon and LH PH and 4th OF since he can play CF too. Late inning defensive replacement OF . -
Yes that was weird like KW had a 2 team or 2 player trade exemption where he didn't have to talk to Hahn about it with the Marlins and 1 other team I forget. I thought McGuff was kidding because it sounded so odd. One name we didn't hear him talk about was Peyton Pallette. That guy went from a zero to a hero . 7 ERA as a starting pitcher in 12 starts going only 44 innings. Then a 1 ERA in 45 innings as a relief pitcher. Not 1.9 but 1.01. That's another guy who could make an impact or at least get a shot in Spring Training. He wasn't promoted to AAA so he could end up there because he's 23 so younger than Coffey and Schoenle. That's a decent amount of innings he pitched.

Plus you can't overlook what he did when he came up. The BP sucked like really sucked. If you think having a worse record than 2024 is possible maybe improve the bullpen ,get a hold of some decent arms and have some competition for some spots with guys who can throw strikes. -
Draft Kings sets Sox O/U at 49.5 wins
CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
And that's reasonable, we've always agreed who was responsible for most of the debacles but in the meantime Getz is getting his shot at implementing structural changes because compared to players salaries those things are relatively cheap. I don't have much hope that the Sox can make the playoffs soon but time is ticking on the Jerry Reinsdorf regime. Best not to expect miracles. We got our once in 100+ years miracle in 2005 .It takes things we usually don't get to get another one. So I just like to see some year to year progress until JR shakes hands with Father Time. -

That response made no sense whatsoever. It didn't even remotely respond to anything I said. Everyone in this thread is now dumber from reading your response . I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul. -

Nope it's all the same as before until it isn't.Dont expect much fall in line with the naysayers. No specifics on how these new changes are just like the old ways because it can't be quantified. Bannister is all over podcasts talking about all aspects of what was done with Crochet and who he thinks deserves credit for how it all turned out but hey he's Don Cooper I've seen Bannister on so many podcasts . I just watched another one on the Baseball Isn't Boring podcast sounding eloquent about pitching as usual. -

CaliSoxFanViaSWside replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sure but what did you expect ? Like I said it could just be the difference in attitude about certain players. No one here can predict development. Where you see red flags someone else watched a podcast with a coach talking about how the guy had developed and it changes from year to year which may sway him more than some dude on Soxtalk . He give his opinion you disagree and on and on its goes. Everyone reads what's going on differently .The only difference is if you can present your ideas without laughing or getting snarky at opposing views. That doesn't happen a lot around here because it takes time and length to explain and communicate. So people would rather say how can you think that ? Are you crazy ? There's not a lot of real baseball talk here. It's all pretty much biased by how badly you hate all things White Sox right now. -

Don't you want the team to improve ? I don't understand what you want that's any different than me ? If a 15 game improvement doesn't make u feel any better what can happen in 2025 that will ? -

Nah as much as I appreciate you Lip I'll be fine with a 15 game improvement in 2025 and 1 year closer to what you think will happen ( which is the most likely scenario).
