  1. The odds are still very low unless he really just wants to pitch in relative obscurity. But I always thought the Sox had more of a chance than the Sox have no shot at all crowd even if they are the ones likely to be right.
  2. Basically there's a subset here that refuses to see anything good. Even if they see it like a good amount of pitching prospects and a top 5 system they refuse to talk about it. It's like I've been hurt and I'll never love again. We usually find those people just as annoying as eternally optimistic people, maybe moreso except they formed themselves as the Soxtalk cool kids . Now it's cool to be a Sox Goth because it's the majority. We can accuse anyone optimistic of being Getz lovers . OMG the stigma is devastating. Only there are no eternally optimistic people here. There's just the Sox Goths and those who choose to see some good. It might not get us to the playoffs soon but I've rooted for the Sox all my life as have many of you when they weren't making the playoffs so it's not much different to me. You either make the playoffs or you don't. Here we're the tree in the forest that no one hears fall.
  3. When are we allowed to be happy ? I would think a 15 game improvement would mean quite a few of the young pitchers showed great progress as well as some of the hitters which would bode well for 2026 with our 2 best pitching prospects on the way.
  4. Hopes and dreams is all we got. Youre asking people to predict the future this season of guys who barely played at all last year, underperformers or rookies . Yeah Sean Burke could be a thing, Meidroth, Sosa , Vargas, Colson Montgomery, Teel ,Quero ,Thorpe, Cannon, Coffey,Schonele,Ramos, Baldwin. You never know who can break out. So what else can you do with young players but hope and dream . That's what rebuild is all about hoping and dreaming of a better future and baby steps forward. A lot of minor league Sox pitching prospects made big steps forward. Birmingham graduated quite a few of them and they still won the Southern League championship. We're going to see some pretty live arms in the next few years. Iriarte, Adams,Bush, Coffey. Garrett Schonele went from an aging nobody in AA in 2023 with a 6+ ERA to a 1.64 ERA and .94 WHIP in 2024 in 55 AA innings and 70 innings overall. He's 26 and LH. Hits 95 . Throws strikes. He needs to get a shot in the BP with Adisyn Coffey. We'll get to see how Hagen Smith, Noah Schultz,Braden Montgomery, George Wolcow, Grant Taylor, Caleb Bonemer and other draft picks look as they work their way up.
  5. However in a projection system for 2025 with a better bullpen, hitting and defense with Crochet the over/under probably is higher. They know Crochet is gone when they made it 49.5 .
  6. Explaining why isn't going to change your mind. It might just be the difference between optimism and pessimism. You can't be a coach or player with a defeatist attitude .I'd like to think there will be great progress among many of the pitchers and some of the hitters.
  7. You would be in the minority around here but I'll hang with you.
  8. I.also heard someone, maybe a coach or front office guy say on a podcast that he had some cut on a hand that wasn't healing right because he was playing through it . Don't know if it's a baseball injury or kitchen accident. I think he'll be good too. I don't see much sense in thinking Montgomery won't succeed . He's the Sox SS probably for most of this season and beyond.
  9. It's in Pale Hose Talk right on the front page. I just posted it a couple hours ago. I guess Noah Schultz growing 1.5 inches so he's now 6'10.5" was not the click bait I thought it was. 🤣
  10. Their are a lot of harsh critics of Thorpe 'round these parts.
  11. As far as Sosa goes why not SS ? He tearing up the Domincan winter league and playing SS there I think or why not 2nd base ? I think it's too early to give up on him at SS, 2nd ,or even 3rd base. The Sox need hitters and maybe Montgomery comes up to play SS or even starts the season there. Let there be a Battle Royale between Montgomery, Elko, Baldwin, Vargas, Vaughn, Sosa for 3rd, SS,2nd and 1st. Rotate them all at DH too. Work on their D too and see if anyone can stand out. Obviously Montgomery will be given preference and probably Vaughn too being the incumbent but every single one of them besides Elko needs the MLB ABs now. Let some of these guys try to earn some extra money with pre arbitration WAR awards. Sox have only had Cease qualify for it in 3 years. I think the Tigers , Diamondbacks and Orioles have had 7 or more in the 3 years since the new CBA. Edit : Wow I forgot about Meidroth . Lots of people think he can be the OD 2nd baseman.Lots of competition.
  12. I'd like to see Elko get a real shot at it. Unfortunately we kept Vaughn. John Ely says Elko can really pick it at 1st and saved a lot of throwing errors.
  13. I know you asked for a turnaround based on who did bad last season but I think I'll just go with some guys that John Ely was high on for the bullpen. Garrett Schonele and Addison Coffey who both could spend most of the year with the Sox based on Ely' s glowing praise of them last year from the recent ReKap podcast I started a thread about.
  14. I wish McGuffey just would've kept a little more quiet and let Ely talk. He was extremely honest and had me thinking that kind of honesty may not be appreciated when he says he's told what to do and no one asks him for his opinion on if he thinks someone is ready or not. I thought that Navy Seal was supposed to enhance communication between departments. At the end you could see how excited Ely was about Elko but BA brought him up. Yes BA is Brian Anderson. Overall though a real good podcast. I get it McGuff talks like these guys are his best friends so it's a loose format but he still needs to let the guest talk because he's the one with the insight. Talked about just about every arm he saw however briefly, Schonele, Coffey, Carela, Eder, Schultz, Smith, Adams, Thorpe, Taylor, Iriarte, Cannon, Bush Sounds like he would've preferred Schonele and Coffey should've been brought up at the end of the year instead of Iriarte.
  15. Bears were over staffed because football gets the most coverage. They had 4 regular guys plus 3 ex players and one current player all making regular appearances. Then the Bears got bad .
  16. Clickbait title but its true. I know the board is skeptical of all things White Sox but just cannot help themselves either hating everything or looking ahead since things have perked up this offseason. SInce Getz made so many new hires recently , if you've been paying any attention at all, you've seen them in multiple podcasts all over Youtube . They all express optimism about creating a winner. I can hear the laughter now . John Ely is not a recent hire. He was the pitching coach at AA Birmingham Barons and he gives you his perspective on many of the pitchers he coached this past season. He particularly says very good things about Noah Schultz. I hope you all enjoy and have a wonderful holiday season !
  17. Nats may try him as a SP however the only times he did well as a Sox player was when he was used in relief. If he pitched longer his FB speed and command lowered. He's still young enough that maybe his arm can regain more strength but it wasn't evident with the Sox. The following paragraph is from https://southsideshowdown.com/white-sox-foolishly-let-former-all-star-pitcher-sign-with-nationals-in-free-agency In a rare instance of something going right for the 2024 White Sox, Soroka excelled as a relief pitcher. The right-hander wound up making 16 relief appearances, posting a sparkling 2.75 ERA across 36 innings. He regained his control (in a big way), too, striking out a whopping 60 batters in just 36 innings. This showing made him one of the more intriguing options on the free agent market this winter. ( this guy says he will be a SP but has there been anything posted that says that with some kind of quote from Nats management ?) Maybe he was signed to be their closer . Guess we'll find out .
  18. Garfien.Guess you don't watch Sox podcasts on YouTube. I watch them all and the Future Sox ones and the Locked On one also.
  19. I'm going to miss all those guys. The Sox ,Bears, and Hawks CHGO podcasts were the only ones I regularly watched so I'm familiar with all those guys and liked them all. Sox players like Duber too. Boysrn did a good job on the Hawks as did Moreano on the Bears. Herb Lawrence was likeable as well. I'm not even sure the lone survivor of CHGO White Sox will be doing it alone or just doing shorts rather than a whole show every other day or so. James Fegan who felt the axe with the Athletic too had respect for Duber.
  20. Informative siphoning of MLBTR. I thought I was going to read all jokes.
  21. Lol I guess Soxtalk would not exist if fans weren't ultra whiny about things that wouldn't have even been a story before every idiot with a Twitter can criticize everyone on the air who happens to mispronounce names or get facts wrong. Being a professional is not about being flawless . He put in the work .His mouth just didn't translate it from his brain right. Are we all so un empathetic we cannot just say oops instead of getting hot about it. So many angry people in the cheap seats losing money on their betting apps and fantasy leagues drunkenly yelling at the TV and pretending to be Siskel and Ebert. Mellow out.
  22. He can allocate the budget he gets but what is the budget he gets compared to other teams ? Questions like this must always be asked if you think you are fair. Not just compared to the big spenders but compared to teams who also are known not to spend much. The problem with the international amateur scouting has been around as long as Reinsdorfs been owner except for the brief time they got Robert and Abreu it's sucked. It's like the the DR doesn't exist for the Sox even though it's been providing top players to baseball for the entirety of Reinsdorfs ownership. I admit I'm as ignorant as the next guy which is why I feel I can't judge .Others like yourself feel you have everything you need. Since I have no say in the matter of what goes on I don't torture myself blaming the puppets under Reinsdorf .They are all handicapped likeany others do the same jobs in other organizations. When you do see international success stories on other teams in the Sox financial stratosphere do you ask yourself why can they get those players and we can't ? We almost had one with Tatis but someone snatched him away before most with the Sox even knew what they had. That's just sad. I'm more likely to think Getz will be a better GM than his previous job. We already see a series of hires related to infrastruture that most of the talking heads reporting and offering media related opinion in Chicago never judge these seem impress Getz has gone outside the organization and hired people that appear to be qualified. I have no idea how it'll turn out. Seems like a long term project and things change all the time.
  23. I like this too.Its educational if you have any interest at all in some the new rhetoric of believing in Getz vision and the new voice of international amateur scouting and you're able to read the whole thing since you have to pay to read more than the 1st couple of paragraphs.
  24. I appreciate this answer mainly because you gave it a lot of thought and did research . You didn't just shoot from the hip. I always wished I knew exactly how Tatis got traded . In my head it's like Hahn made the decision on his own but I keep thinking it doesn't or shouldn't happen that way .Like someone in player development should have been notified who strongly objected before the trade was completed or something Hahn could have seen in a scouting report that said highest upside of anyone we've ever signed internationally. I'm just not sure what Paddy actually thought about him or if he would have strongly objected. I also wonder with the retooling of the system and staffs with the ex Seal in charge of making sure all departments are communicating and run efficiently if that could safeguard getting rid of talented players who hadn't even played stateside yet or at least make it more collaborative. Will have to see how things play out and it's still hard to judge when you just can't know what restrictions you're getting from Reinsdorf which is always a huge monkey wrench in anything related to the job of any GM or Director of Player Development or International signings.
  25. And this stuff has been talked about for a while yet people will still say the Sox didn't develop him. The stubbornness of people to acknowledge the Sox can do something's right under Getz leadership is mindboggling. It was all Crochet .Period. I don't care what's out there talking about all the ways they helped him get better, Or even who Crochet gives credit to.
