QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 18, 2012 -> 02:40 AM) You mean Walt, not Gus, and each season gets better and better, with the exception of S5 so far. Yes, I meant Walt.

Given all the hullabaloo on it in this thread, I finally started watching Breaking Bad. I'm three episodes in (Gus just killed Crazy 8s, and is presumably about to tell Skyler he has cancer). I like it a lot, but not "OMG BEST SHOW EVER" level of like.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 17, 2012 -> 10:17 PM) DirecTV added BBC America in HD. And, starting next week, they'll air the series "Luther" from the beginning. Heard a lot of good things about it. Detective show staring Idris Elba. "Copper" starts on Sunday on BBC America, too. Looks like a Gangs of New York-esque show. I'm gonna give it a watch.

I know several states have legalized medical marijuana, but I didn't realize that a few had full legalization (ie, including recreational use) on the ballot this fall. I wonder how that'll do. This article on Seattle's Hempfest talks a bit about it, but also how they're trying to organize the festival this year so as to be more "mainstream." Pretty interesting stuff.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 17, 2012 -> 09:33 AM) Or perhaps they meant a "couple" of twelvers... A couple each sounds like some Soxtalkers.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 17, 2012 -> 09:21 AM) Yeah, I was going to say...like you two would really just have a "couple" beers In America's super-size-me society, 15 is the new 2!

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Aug 17, 2012 -> 06:39 AM) Basically, he got into IU because Crean went to bat for him (like he did Wade and Creek in the past). He had to score a "C" or above in his two summer school classes to continue his education at IU. Coming from an extremely rough background, it was a great story he's even made it this far. He ended up getting a 2.0 and was denied admission a little while back. He appealed and went in front of an academic committee board where they made the final decision. If this was a scholarship issue, Crean and the rest of Indiana would be getting the crap sued out of them from everywhere. Ron's statement to the press pretty much says it all, he feels terrible. I think those that are saying this is a scholarship issue are going to look quite dumb when/if Indiana ends up with 12 scholarship players for the year, which is looking like a distinct possibility right now. What? Who else, Creek?

QUOTE (gatnom @ Aug 17, 2012 -> 02:06 AM) So he's academically qualified, but he wasn't good enough to get into Indiana. And, you say that Crean gave out one too many scholarships? Hmm... Er, not quite. He was academically qualified to get into the school...and then flunked summer school once he got there.

Illinois is one of the schools that contacted Ron Patterson

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 16, 2012 -> 04:51 PM) I don't see any HOMELAND marathon on my guide this weekend, but I third it's awesomeness. What, my placing it as #2 behind Shameless didn't count as thirding its awesomeness (you were the fourth)?!
-
QUOTE (onedude @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 09:39 AM) That's what I was thinking. Plus it's the writer/director of "In Bruges", a great film. Didn't know that. In Bruges is amazing.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 16, 2012 -> 09:08 AM) Is that a joke? That show is Homeland. It is amazing. A must watch. Didn't know they were running a marathon this weekend, but yes, Homeland is just incredible. Best new show last year. Well, technically it was the same year as Shameless...so second best in my head. Definitely a must-see.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 16, 2012 -> 12:36 PM) Got the job offer. Congrats!

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 11:50 PM) Someone put this on his Wikipedia page... Chicago White Sox The Chicago White Sox signed López to a minor league contract on August 14, 2012. López was assigned to Chicago's Triple-A affiliate in Charlotte, where he is expected to get himself primed for his post-MLB softball career.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 07:43 PM) Someone get him a ticket to Toronto. Hawk's timing with that was absurd.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 09:48 PM) People who like their news in the form of big pretty pictures and colored charts. That's actually the only time I would ever look at USA Today at IU (they were free). "I want to see a chart!"
-
Turns out Patterson was cleared to enroll before the summer, and then didn't pass summer school.
-
Ron Patterson is not enrolling at IU for this season. He attended summer classes and practices like the rest of the incoming class. Weird for that reason...but not weird since it solves the scholarship crunch?

U.S. reaches nerdy milestone

QUOTE (Reddy @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 09:08 PM) you're seriously telling ME to be less condescending in a forum full of Alphas, SS2k5s and mr_geniuses? I've noticed it getting worse lately; you were the proverbial straw. But that doesn't make my original comment any less true.

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 04:23 PM) Hey Guys, I watched Hannah last night. Wanna hop in a time machine to last year and talk about it? I beat you by 16 years. I finally saw Seven last night...so at least now I finally know what's in the box.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 08:52 PM) lol i didn't present it as one sided. the big news these days is paul ryan. it's an article about paul ryan. did i SAY democrats never engage in that type of activity? I think it's entirely fair to hold a VP candidate accountable to something like this - you don't? Come on dude. You specifically said "Defend that, repubs." That's specifically inciting one side of the spectrum. And if you really were trying to make the distinction that he's on the ticket, as compared to just a run-of-the-mill Congressman, it's not really effective to say "lol did i SAY that." Something like "I never said the dems didn't do it, I was referring specifically to the fact that the GOP decided to put a guy who does this on their ticket" is more effective and less condescending.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 02:49 PM) The Bears are one of the worst run franchises in sports. This is just a tiny part of it. Yeah. Just think, when Wirtz the Elder was still alive, we quite possibly had two of the worst-run franchises in the world.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 02:09 PM) That knee injury looked horrible when it happened and we were told it wasnt. Now its lingering into the season. Hmm. NIce work Bears. And does this surprise even a bit?
