QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 09:52 AM) I see a lot to like in a 24 year old catcher in AAA (drafted at 21) who got there skipping a couple stops and managed to hit worth a lick at all. He's got a decent contact rate, had an Iso OBP of 54 points last year, though it was down to 40 this year. The power showed up in August and September. Those are all indications to me he's likely to hit a lot better in 2013 in AAA, to me. Defensively, it was reported earlier this year he'd made a lot of strides at the position. Hard to say how much that means, I haven't seen him play in person. If he is given 2013 to start in AAA, and if he can draw a few more walks, I really think the guy has some value. I realize I'm in the minority, and I admit I know only very little about his supposedly improved defense, but that's what I see. I love Phegley, if only because he was at Indiana the same time I was. Met him before a basketball game once (after he'd been drafted), real nice guy.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 01:25 AM) May I suggest Alanna Rizzo's boobs? There you go. Way better than Lauren Shehadi, don't know what your love with her is!

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Sep 10, 2012 -> 04:05 PM) Are people who respond to polls just giant trolls? They have to be, right? Right? When asked, between Obama and Romney, who was more responsible for bin Ladens death, Republicans answered 38% Obama 15% Romney 47% Not Sure http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/201...ase_OH_9912.pdf I can totally buy plenty of people picking "Not Sure" since they may think neither had much impact compared to the DoD, JSOC, the actual servicemen who did it, whatever. But picking Romney? Heh.

Heard some tracks on the radio this morning off the Carpenter, the new album by the Avett Brothers. Sounded really good.

IU lost Sophomore QB Tre Roberson for the year with a broken leg. He was by far our best guy on offense, too. I still am hoping for good things from our running game. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 7, 2012 -> 05:33 PM) I was going to post this. Chris Kluwe is hilarious. Yeah, that's absolutely hilarious.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 08:00 PM) If your not watching the CNN feed, Mark Kelly the husband of Gabrielle Giffords is talking about a new pac where they will only give money to Democrats who are willing to work with Republicans. Whether or not its true, can people at least agree that these are the type of statements we want to see? That we prefer people who want to help and work through problems, to Gorver Norquist? That seems like a reasonable place to start, that both sides pledge they are going to try to be productive, instead of try to f*** things up purposefully? It's a great kernel of an idea, but it all comes back to the same place as campaign promises: How are they going to hold the politicians accountable when they don't work across the aisle?

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 11:35 PM) The OP stated bring back someone for one gig, not for good, or else I probably would go Lennon as well. For one gig, though, it would be Hendrix for sure. This. Oh most definitely this. And I would pay a year's salary to see it.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 1, 2012 -> 10:38 PM) That's really strange. Your OC was our OC last year and he ran a ton of play action. That's Matt Canada, who was IU's OC my entire time there. He was quite fond of the play action, IIRC. On a related note, I saw him in the barber shop once, he was quite personable. So, if I can take anything out of last night IU game (besides the fact that we'll be terrible again), it's that Tevin Coleman could be really, really good. He's got good size (about 6'1" 200) and seemed to do a good job moving his feet. He's a true freshman from Tinley Park, not sure which high school though. But hey, it's only been preseason and a game against an FCS school, so I'll wait and see. -
Watched the first two episodes of BBCAmerica's "Copper." It was pretty good, enough for me to keep watching at least.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 06:43 PM) I am loving the new Bob Mould record. It comes out on Tuesday, but a couple of sites have been streaming it, and it's Bob at his best. Very reminiscent of Sugar, which isn't surprising, given that he's touring behind the 20th anniversary reissue of Copper Blue. Fantastic guitar-based alt-pop from a legend in the genre. If you're interested, here's a link: http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/alb...er-age-20120827 I think they've been playing track(s?) off of it on the Current. The Current is absolutely the most kick ass station I've ever lived near. It's the NPR station for the Twin Cities, and plays a pretty wide variety of stuff, though it's fairly indie-centric. Plays a ton of local artists too (hence the Bob Mould love). I've discovered so many artists through it, it's a phenomenal station.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 01:21 PM) You're just choosing to ignore it by adding lots and lots of other BS to your posts, hoping to get me to leave the original point alone. The ultra-rich use the exact same logic you do, of course you don't see it that way. That would deflate your entire argument. You avoid taxes, just like everyone else in the world. Dude, he wasn't ignoring anything. You've been absolutely absurd these last several pages. At the very best, I could think you were trying to go for "The ultra-rich use the exact same logic you do, of course you don't see it that way. That would deflate your entire argument." the entire time...but even then, you never actually said it, you kept responding that he wasn't saying anything without saying why. If you wanted to talk about a distinction in SB's original argument (like, "they're doing legal things, just at a greater scale than you"), you could have discussed it. This is what's bothered me so much about the Buster lately. Someone on either side just blustering on and on without offering anything of value in response, and basically just saying "neener neener" over and over.

Ferris Bueller, all the time. "John Lennon was the walrus. I could be the walrus." "Nine times?" "Niiiinne times." "Isms, in my opinion, are not good." "If you stuck a lump of coal up his ass, in two weeks you'd have a diamond." "Bueller...Bueller..." And of course there's the Sandlot.... "For-e-ver" "You're killin me smalls!" "Wendy Pfeffercorn!" "Big Chief! The good stuff!"

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 01:50 PM) I am completely non-partisan and I am merely sharing with the board my clear vision to the path of enlightenment. Unlike Balta whose mind appears to be clouded by partisan politics. You can claim that all you want (and hell, it may be true) -- but in this instance, you certainly sound like you're toeing a company line. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 26, 2012 -> 08:53 AM) No, Balta just gets his jollies by faux pissed offedness about racism and ®epublicans. Frankly, I think both him and senor genius have a point. I think it was an offhand joke by Romney that wasn't meant to offend or sound like the way Balta, Lostfan, or StrangeSox are reading it. That said, after the fact, it doesn't take any great leap of logic to get to their conclusion, either.
-
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 10:30 PM) I'm surprised you didn't know about this Balta. I suppose you have a right to be angry, Obama has played you guys like a fiddle. You know you're sounding just as deluded by the right as you claim Balta is by the left, right?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 12:27 PM) Wait, what did Biden do? I'm guessing he meant "VP nominee" as in Paul Ryan.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 10:07 AM) The VP should explain what "forcible rape" is and why he cosponsored a bill with that language. Why shouldn't the media ask him about his legislative history, especially when it's directly related to a current major story? To be fair, the term "forcible rape" has a lot of f***ed up jurisprudence surrounding it; this isn't just some dumb legislator thing.

Best Suits episode yet. Fantastic. Harvey stoned? Motherf***ing money.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 02:58 PM) Since this has been more of a general job/career thread than just a "job hunt" thread, i'll add my good news: I settled my first major case a couple months ago and it all got wrapped up this week. $975k on a million dollar policy for the death of a subcontractor on a construction site. He left a minor daughter but no other heirs. Wasn't expecting my firm to give me anything out of it, but I ended up getting a decent bonus and a ~15% raise. Pretty stoked as I was really starting to get worried about paying for daycare for my new kid. Would have been REALLY nice if I had referred the case to the firm, but still a nice surprise. That's awesome! Nice.
