I'll be rooting the Sox from in front of the big screen. Game on WGN-America today. Ought to be good, but I am always worried when these ex-Sox prospects, who have emerged as pretty good hurlers now, face the Sox. Floyd has been outstanding though and I really enjoy watching him pitch so I am very optimistic -
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 08:49 PM) It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see AJP and Castro brought back, and Flowers traded this offseason. I could thnk of worse scenarios. I think AJ for sure shpould be brought back and Castro is showing a lot

I am not upset. I think they were asking way too much. I am hoping that the Jackson deal is better for the Sox than I think it will be just from the first look. I am tired of giving away our talent. Now we have a fellow with not too good of a record. I will say however that he has shown some promise over the years including this year so anything can happen

Go for it KW as long as the price is right. Manny can be an offensive plus still and play DH and spell in the OF from time to time

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:33 PM) And the Twins paid a steep price for Capps, because they only control his rights for one more season after this...and he will be highly compensated next season. They gave up a premium prospect more highly valued around baseball for a reliever, when they've done just fine with Rauch. Sometimes, you try too hard to improve and you end up changing the roles of almost everyone in the bullpen, it doesn't always go the way you think. I think unless your ballclub has been giving up numerous games at the back end due to your closer, you should never trade away a premium prospect under team control for six years without getting an everyday player or at least a starting pitcher back...yes, Mauer plays the same position, but there's no guarantee that he will even stay healthy and be able to catch down the line. In order to preserve his power and hitting stroke, they might be better off parking him at 3B, 1B or DH. Yes, he's paid $184 million because he's one of the three best hitters in baseball AND a Gold Glove catcher, but for how long? We improve our ballclub far more with Jackson than the Twins do with Capps, especially if Cooper already has noted the mechanical flaw. I will not say we didn't improve our team or did until we see Jackson in action. With his record I am not impressed. But, it can be turned around I am sure. Capps has a better record then Jackson lus the Twings needed that closer as Rauch was starting to stumble

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 07:08 PM) From reports: about as "in it" as the Angels were. Sure as hell seems like the market for Dunn is shrinking. I think the Nationals ticked some teams off with their wavering

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2010 -> 02:18 PM) You certainly cannot believe Greg Walker gets a pass and the pressure is on Cooper. That really is beyond a reach. Supposedly KW said they noticed a flaw with Jackson. Maybe its just talk, but he was pretty good in the AL in 2008 and 2009 and can bring it up there at 97. Who knows, maybe if Peavy is healthy and Freddy comes back next year, Jackson is a closer. That is possible but whatever if the flaw is mechanical and he listens to Cooper maybe we end up with a valuable pitcher in the rotation

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:23 PM) Time for Hudson to show us he is a legitimate Major League pitcher I just had a chance to post agaion today. Missed my PTC choice and now Harrell is pitching and Hudson is gone. Oh well... Howqever 4 walks in 2 innings is not a good way to start up in the bigs. He has gotten out of it so far, but those walks will bite you quick

Viciedo I am making the switch from Rios. The kid was hot last night so let's see if it carries over
-
Let's keep our own talent- Hudson can be a domant pitcher for us. We have trdaed away too much of our young pitching talent

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 09:25 PM) Kotsay and Viciedo are the two logical guys to send down once Teahen comes back and IF we make a trade. I get the feeling it might be Lillibridge instead of Kotsay in reality. Kotsay will not be sent down It will be Lilli or Viciedo most likely

QUOTE (T R U @ Jul 11, 2010 -> 08:45 AM) If the goal is a central title and a World Series run then I give Dan Hudson a few starts, see what we've got, and in a few weeks if Berkman and Oswalt are still on a terrible Astros team I offer up Hudson, Flowers, Morel, and another non Dayan prospect and see how much cash the Astros will eat for both of them.. I think they are both FA after next season, so the money from boosted attendance and a playoff run might be able to absorb both contracts with some cash and you can let them walk in another year if need be.. If anything, ide look into that.. but, I think with Oswalt in the rotation and Berkman in the lineup we could make a very serious run at the World Series.. Of course, if Hudson is kickin ass then ide rather we just add a bat and roll with it.. EDIT: Well I just saw the Oswalt wouldn't play for us thing, so nevermind this.. That is a lot of prospective prospects for either one of those guys. There have been some pretty good players traded this last week for far less than that in talent. Why are we so willing to gut our farm system?

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 05:07 PM) Santos + Viciedo + Holmberg/Rodriguez? I think Santos would make a good guy to build this package around. I don't think they'd have much of a use for Flowers. Montero's going to be a very good offensive catcher for years to come. No thanks. Viciedo might be someone is a year or so that outshines a rental player like Dunn. Santos might be out closer. Both are extremely affordable. I am not into paying any hitter not named Konerko 14 or 15 million a year.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:38 PM) And no, I'm not talking about striking out the side, although I certainly wouldn't complain if you did that from here on out. But the agression in which you pitched with yesterday should be done everyday from here on out. You clearly still have the stuff and velocity, but instead of focusing on your best stuff, you work more as if you were a starting pitcher trying to utilize multiple pitches and being pretty. It don't have to be pretty, you are a power closer. Utilize that nasty hook and power fastball. You really don't need to out-think hitters, they can't touch you when you are throwing those two pitches with even mediocre command. Last night was vintage Jenks. It reminded me of 2005. He was upper 90's on velocity and than just snapped some lethal curves. Great post. A 99 MPH fastball and a breaking pitch can be hard to beat

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) Abreu's expensive next year. He's getting old really fast, the bat's been mediocre this year and bad for his standards. His defense is bad, although not Carlos Quentin bad. Quite frankly, Abreu would end up hitting second in this lineup. He doesn't have enough power to hit 5th. You'd be in a very similar situation if you go with Matsui. Bobbie Abreu stats for 2010 Los Angeles Angels 101 380 56 96 24 1 12 56 158 56 82 16 8 .347 .416 .253 I don't think his numbers are bad at all. DH and fill in the OF. I don't remember if he has played some 1B or not though.I would not be giving up major prospects for him though, but on the other hand wouldn't mind having him on the team to fill the LH bat need, if one exists

When I read this I was thinking it would be the New York Yankees 25 different years

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 28, 2010 -> 03:02 PM) From Sherman in the NY Post "What I hear is the Mets are trying to locate a pitcher (probably a reliever) who is overpriced and not having a particularly strong season, but who their scouts like and pluck him for little to no prospect in return." Sounds like a match to me.... Why give our players away for nothing? Doesn't seem like we have to move anyone unless it benefits us as well as the otehr team
