  1. The artificial turf is what screwed Joe Crede. If he retires I wish him the best
  2. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 01:57 AM) Freddy's been very impressive in his last three starts against two great offensive teams. I'd say he's the front-runner right now with Hudson being behind him. I say Garcia because of his experience. He can make the most of what he has left and it appears he is healthy again. I still have issues with Hudson and Torres as far as their consistency. One real good outing and that is followed by a bad one. Rokies might need more seasoning where as Freddie is ready.
  3. Thanks for the evaluation. I think I saw him in his debut or maybe it was just Gameday, but you hope for consistency. Maybe a twenty hit Oakland game is not the best time to evaluate Hudson, but he did give upo a quarter of the A's hits in two innings. I would like to see him start this year
  4. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) True, but he, Vernon Wells and Roy Halladay were supposed to be the saviors of that team. The ones that would help them get over the Red Sox/Yankee hump. With the Sox (if they back up their talk), they'd rather win with pitching and defense, which would take some pressure off of Rios when it comes to hitting. so he is now our savior? I want to him to hit also. He was always put out there a s 5 tool player and I know he was long coveted by KW. I have no problem with him being on this team, but I don't want to be paying $60M for a glove man that basically ends up being a defensive replacement.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) It will be an interesting off season. I really can't wait to hear what the issues behind the scenes were. There really seems like a reason things didn't come together this year, but I am not quite sure what it is. Something like hidden injuries or chemistry seems the most likely. More likely underperformance especially by the bullpen and failure to execute properly with men on base.
  6. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 01:28 AM) Tomko should be careful. AJ may of gotten some tips from Randy Orton last night. Do you mean randy the ram?
  7. I logged onto MLB Gameday from work and at first thought this was an error of their part. Torres with 5 runs in the 1st! You start to feel good about a Sox rookie pitcher especially one that did such a super job last time out and you/he gets clobbered. Hopefully Tomko doesn't have it either tonight and we do a comeback. I would like to see Hudson get a start too
  8. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 11:22 PM) So are you saying he was playing injured during the 5 seasons that he played poorly, and was healthy the 3 seasons he played well? That is what I am saying
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 11:47 PM) because Jim Thome is twice the hitter that Scott Podsednik is, will almost certainly sign for a deal that ties up less money long term, and can actually hit for power. If Sox fans want a player similar to Podsednik, I honestly have zero problem at all with a trade of something like Linebrink for Pierre. It was mentioned by Fathom, and it actually makes a bit of sense, even if it would mean that Pierre would end up leading off. He's a much more fundamentally sound player than Podsednik, even if he is a bit worse hitting. That is your opinion and no matter how bizarre it is you are entitled to it Thome can hit for power and I love having Jim Thome on this club, but Pods can make things happen also. I would prefer to have some more homerun pop in our line up as it worked in 2008 and also in 2005, but in our World Series year we had more speed (oh Pods was on that team wasn't he)
  10. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 06:25 PM) I don't think that he will repeat what he has done this year. His career averages are all lower than they are this year, and he is going to be one year older. His speed has already diminished, and it will keep diminishing. It would be more valuable to have somebody with a high OPS like Thome at DH. He played hurt. He is healthy and a healthy Pods can produce
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 09:25 PM) We knew Ozzie was going to struggle to get PT for everyone when Rios was acquired, and frankly, Rios right now hasn't really earned PT. Kotsay's been ok the last few games, so if Ozzie's still trying to win games, going with the hot hand isn't a bad move. Rios needs to hit better if he's going to play right now. Next year, he ought to be penciled in to CF, but right now, the dude's just not hitting You are right about Rios. You can't expect much offensive firepower when a .111 hitter + or - is in there. He can play defense and work with Walker
  12. The bullpen might all be up for discussion this off season. Personally the only one I am happy with is Thornton. Keep Matt and Ozzie likes Carrasco, but after that it's anyone's guess
  13. I question where Figgins fits in on the team we see for the future. You build from within and our infield looks like Beckham at 3B, Ramirez and SS and Getz at 2B. Nix is the platoon players, but if I had my druthers I would go more defense with a Uribe again. You can argue all you want about Juan, but saying he wasn't a special glove man is absurd. PK is set at 1B and hopefully for a few more years. You need stability and you don't get that by replacing your middle infielders every year.
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 01:36 PM) it truly is amazing that people want to bring Podsednik back. and to DH no less! Why is it amazing to you? Pods has value on this team and has been the leadoff hitter we needed. He is hitting over .300 and has over 20 steasl and hasn't played the whole year with us. We most certainly could do alot worse or pay a lot more money for someone different.
  15. We paid them back for the fiasco road trip and our visit to Beantown. Too bad it may be too late
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 08:43 PM) Last year Rios was pretty rough in the first half and pretty darn good in the 2nd half. I wonder if changing teams and not playing every day might have kept him from finding a groove, mentally at least. I am hoping that 2010 sees better resultys. Wer know that KW has long coveted Alex Rios. He has him now, Rios doesn't have a good history. One pretty good year meant the Jays shelled out $60M and he has underperformed
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 6, 2009 -> 04:04 AM) Good for Jose. I love Jose. Brandon Allen has 3 hrs already? Bad bad trade KW. The Allen trade only makes sense if PK is signed for another 4 or 5 years. It is dissapointing considering the return we have had from Pena. Contreras can still pitch he just wasn't for us for sure
  18. I wanted to see him in the Bosox series, but it is what it is
  19. 500 wins is an accomplishment
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 02:47 PM) Steve Phillips has always been a fan of the Chicago White Sox - at least the Chicago White Sox as run by Kenny Williams. Had a chance to meet Mr. Phillips back in December, and he was just as bright and engaging as he is on tv. I did forget to ask him how annoying Joe Morgan is, however. You had me until the Joe Morgan thing. I like Joe's analysis. Maybe he will manage sometime?
  21. We have three of those 20 sraight as of today
  22. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 05:10 PM) How many times had Pods socred over the years due to Thome, Konerko and Dye? How is Pods supposed to score from second if he routinely gets picked off it? well now---routinely you sday. Not true, but he does have abrain freeze on occasion
  23. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 05:08 PM) No he didn't. He clearly said " This organizations philosophy regarding the DH positiong the past 15 years or so has been to stick a bad fielding hitter in the spot." There is nothing about speed. This reminds me of SouthsideDon's ridiculous argument how a even a guy who is a bad fielder is better than a good hitting DH because at least he plays the field. The Big Hurt was not fast and played 1B earlier like Thome. Thome played 1B util his 2005/2006 trade to the Sox. I think this is correct that our team used a player swinging a big piece of lumber and didn't worry about speed. Evaluate other DH's you have know and you will see that is usually a teams philosophy. Thome back next year is possible, but maybe not likely.
