Just logged on. wanted to be at home at listen to XM radio, but am at work. Garland is showing us something this game. Just hope the relief corp can hang on
-
I'll be listening on XM satelitte radio and looking forward to a sweep. We can do it if the teasm plays hard focused baseball and we get the pitching we are used to from last year.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 08:14 PM) Hey guys, I read in the paper this morning that for the last three innings of Sunday's game, Freddy was blowing in ninety four MPH fastballs. I believe it was either in RedEye or the Tribune, as I read both of them this morning. If true, d'you think it's a sign that he'll be throwing hard again? Some people contend that he's throwing soft as a personal choice. I never really bought that. Maybe he has, or maybe he's off of Dead-Arm. Any thoughts? The gun showed him a couple times at 94 MPH, but in the 1st inning he gave up two homers on inside fastballs at 85-88 MPH and they were up. The hitters blasted them. Hawk was moaning about how you can't challenge a big league slugger inside with a fastball that ain't fast. Freddie doesn't think sometimes.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 18, 2006 -> 05:06 PM) Buehrle's problem isn't pitch speed. He's never thrown it fast. The problem is he is leaving pitches up and his control is off. Garcia tries to challenge homerun hitters inside with an 85-88 MPH fastball and loses and also hangs pitches Vazquez doesn't go after the hitters to put them away and tosses junk up there with a 2 strike count on them. He loses his concentration also. Pitchers who should pitch inside don't and there seems to be a poor pitch selection from time to time
-
Yes, I believe I would deal him. Of course the price has to be right.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 16, 2006 -> 06:28 PM) You complain about Hawk & DJ and now you complain about Farmio & Singleton. Mute the TV and broadcast for yourself. If you can't watch the game you're SOL. What's the complaint anyway? I listen quite a bit now that I have XM and I kind of like Chris and Farmer. They seem to get along fine and Chris is learning.

Brian Anderson just landed on the Mendoza line
elrockinMT replied to gojimthome's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He does look a lot better at the plate. I think Greg Walker has been working with him to shorten his swing and the kid hits the ball hard. He has had a lot of hard hit balls go right at a fielder so he has lost some hits. I woud still like Andruw Jones in CF, but Anderson can develop into a real good player I think. -
Garcia with another middle of the rad to poor outing. He gave up another 2 homers, but we had our chances for the offsne to deliver but they failed. The 8th inning Uribe should have been able to put down the bunt and couldn't and a DP ended the inning after we had 2 runners on with no outs. PK did his DP routine in the 9th. I don't know what to make of this starting staff. Garland seems to be gelling now and of course Contrears has been good, but shaky as of late. Buerhle has really been crap the last three games. But he has had bad stretches before and then finds it again. I hope it's soon. Garcia and Vazquez just suck.

Sunday Yankees vs Whitesox 7/16/06 Gamethread
elrockinMT replied to southsideirish71's topic in 2006 Season in Review
I wl see you all on WGN today. 4 1/2 games behind with Detroit winning every game they play vrs the weaker teams and us going 2 out 3 vrs weak teams and getting our butts beat by contenders ain't good. I hope Freddie Garcia can show us something good today. An ERA near 5 won't help either so it's time to be a stopper. -
I hope Kenny Williams doesn't get his hands on you. I don't see this happening at all either.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 10:20 PM) I am going to be royally pissed if for whatever reason this organization believes Dustin Hermanson is ready to face major league hitters. But, Kalapse I think that is exactly what's going to happen. Thinking most likewly is that he is recovered from his back injury and is an established ML relief pitcher who knows the pressure of the pennat race. I will be stunned if he isn't called up.
-
Maybe Politte goes on the DL and Hermanson comes back? He seems to be pitching well in his rehab assignmetn and I think Politte is still hurt.
-
Yes, it's only July, but the pitching hasn't been that good all year. The other teams pitching get better and that means our offense will be hard pressed to keep up what they have been doing this year. Our pitching on the other hand continues to flounder. The team has way to much talent not to finish on top, but they have to get back on track before we slip even out of winning the wild card berth. I don't want to settle for the wild card anyway and don't think this is a team that should be looking at that as the playoof possibility. There is still a long ways to go and I believe we can start playing like champs again and be the champs.

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 15, 2006 -> 08:36 PM) If Politte pitches again for this team, it will be clear to me that Kenny and/or Ozzie have lost their minds. This guy sucks, period. No more chances, he's done. GET HIM OFF THE TEAM! I was real excited this morning to discover the Sox-Yanks game on Fox was being broadcast by the local Fox station. Usually they only show the West coast games on Saturday. However, by the third inning my enthusiasm was slipping away. Buerhle sucked for at least the 3rd or 4th game in a row. Everything up and missing except the Yankee bats. The whole team sucked today except for Thome's hitting. I am surprised that Politte is still playing and isn't back on the DL. The Fox broadcasters picked up on his physical mannerisms, as well as lack on confidence, but they said it appeared he was uncomfortable and kept grabbing at the back of his arm. I think he is less than 100% physically and should be on the DL. We have played the two major powers in the AL East the lst 5 games and are 1-4. Hopefully we win tomorrow, but 3 1/2 behind the Tigers in danger of being swept by the Yankees and going to Tiger stadium on Tuesday is not good. I see the Sox are on WGN tomorrow and on ESPN Wed night and also the Thursday day game.
-
Weakness showed again last night and that's the set up guys in the bullpen. But maybe with 5 days rest they weren't sharp anyway the Sox tried to rally again for Jose and fell just short. I listened on XM staelitte and of course it was the Yanks broadcasters and they were just gushing about Jose and the Sox team, which I thought was pretty nice. Jose is a great pitcher and hoefully the pitching staff can start putting something together and pitch like last year.
-
I reckon we have to beat these guys pardners.
-
If we do any trades we won't be doing it for prospects. I believe Kenny Williams has said we are in this race to win. We would be looking for impact players. However, I would be really surprised if we traded Vazquez, Garcia or Garland.
-
I'd be interested in Tom Gordon again. A NL All-Star pitcher coming to the Sox- come on guys!! But, would Gordon be happy here as the set up man and maybe occassional closer because Jenks is our man?
-
Poor pitch selection with two strikes on the hiter; they give up too many homers; they give up too many hits; too many lead off walks... As was already posted if you don't think that starting pitching with ERA's in the high 4 a game range isn't something to worry about than you have your head in the sand. Even the so called media experts comment on how the Sox management is concerned about the inconsistent starting pitching. The three I am really concerned about is Freddie Garcia and Javier Vazquez and lately Buerhle. Garland has had a number of solid starts lately and Jose is back in the groove. If it wasn't for our offense I feel we could be in a serious problem. But, we usually see a turnaround in the second half of the season and that's what I am countin on.
-
Good for you Chisoxfan14. I liked Willie Harris too, but not in that way... not that there's anything wrong with that.
-
I think we are 5-1 against the Tigers so far this year. I have confidence we will see offense and pitching come together. Garland is getting better each time and Vazquez hopefully will finally figure it out too.
-
I am frustrated with Vazquez too, but he has great stuff. Based on the story I read today in the Sun-Times I would think he is frustrated too. There is some reason he is not as sharp as we saw earlier or pitching up to the potential he has, but there is no reason to quit on him. Maybe a kick in the butt is what he needs?
-
I am glad my 500 votes for AJP were not in vain!!! He deserves to go to the All-Star game.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 6, 2006 -> 02:45 PM) Responding to SS2k5's comment.. "I wonder if the sit lets his mind wonder, and his intensity lapse. " Something that happens to those with ADD. I don't know enough about Bobby Jenk's pastto make that kind of determination, but I have experience with ADD and ADHD as my two step-sons have the disorder. It is a difficult thing for a person to overcome and concentration is something that's hard for a person with ADD to maintain. However, there is alot more to it than just that, but Steff's comments and SS2k5's observations are very valid.

People say it was Kenny's shrewdest move, but I have a feeling Kenny Williams would be the first to say that he listens to his staff and when Don Cooper said get Matt Thornton he acted. We have a coaching staff that knows how to evaluate and a General Manager that trusts them and does what is needed to get players that can win
