Back to the 1940s - Sox vs Twinkies 9-17
elrockinMT replied to knightni's topic in 2005 Season in Review
On one hand your happy that El Duque gets out of the inning without giving up a run-after he walks 2 batters-but on the other hand just shy of 50 pitches through 2 innings. I am not liking that at all. -

Make that 5 K's out of the first 6 batters for Santana. You can also see anther futile swing at a ball low and out of the zone for Dye. -

The offesne is going to show another pathetic display against Santana it seems just judging from 4 K's out of the first 5 he sees -

El Duque did it! Good start. That first inning has been trouble a lot this year for him -

The first inning with 3 straight K's is not a good sign in case anyone is wondering. El Duque giving up a single to the lead off batter and even though he is battling for outs here has thrown a lot of pitches which itself does not bode wll. Twinks get to see everything he has and quickly. I hope he can battle and stay out there for the team -
QUOTE(Molto @ Sep 16, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) you do know our rotation has been very mediocre over the last month, right? no position player right now is responsible for the Sox's recent struggles. it all falls on Mark Buehrle, Freddy Garcia and Jon Garland. I don't like to point fingers at one or two players and blame them for our ills, but I have to admit the so called satff aces have really fallen short the last 2 weeks or so. I don't think Crede is our problem and even when he doesn't hit that glove of his is gold.

The Sox need to play like Champions is what I hear from this story. We have never been able to do that and they don't know how yet. Hope the Sox learn they are Champions and act like it before the Tribe takes over.

Joe Borchard is our hottest hitter. He is batting 1.000. Of course he is only 3 for 3, but I think he should be playing. I think McCarthy should be starting. The line up needs a shake up. I am not going to say that Pods needs to come out, but we have 3 OF'ers so rotate someone. Get new blood out there to play.

Game Thread -- Friday, September 16th

In years past we have gone into Minny and we were chasing the Twins. We go there this weekend and we lead them and they are really out of the race. Maybe us being in the lead will change our fortunes as long as our players perform to their true level. Let's hope they don't go to Minny feeling sorry for themselves, but have recharged and will charge. We can win this thing! -

Konerko got his pitch and just missed it. I can just see Hawk saying that. Oh well, see you tomorrow. -

Borchard hits for Harris and gets a single. He is now 3 for 3 since being called up. -

Podsednik and all his speed and he grounds into a DP after Crede got on. Well now ain't that something... -

The offense works the last 2 games and the pitching implodes. Our so called aces are sucking wind. Oh well, there is always tomorrow. -

Jenks answered my question of earlier confirming we are headed South in a hurry. -

I hope Jenks isn't joining the club by giving up a run after we fight back. You have got to get the first guy out relief pitchers. -

It is so reassuring to know that no matter how much things change they stray the same. Uribe chasing balls down and out of the sstrike zone and he K's with the tieing run in scoring posiiton. Dye K's LOOKING before Iguchi got the big hit. Anyway we have one more inning to do it to KC -

It is becoming a frightful thing with no end in sight. I remember the old joke: I was tired of all this negative thinking and vowed to be positive, but then I thought, "What the heck could what that do?" The players need to get their heads straight and play like winners. I know the season hasn't been a fluke up to this point. If we have a 4 game lead or a 50 game lead we are still in the lead. -
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 03:14 AM) No further comment. Editl: Dead is just stellar on defense. What you said...

I like Jenks, but maybe even more important is his ability to be effective for 2 and 3 innings in relief. Hermy might have been rusty, I don't know. Maybe it's his back, but this is only his 2nd blown save I think.

Ok, Soxtalk friends. I am going to bed and we will win tomorrow and start getting that lead built up again. See you Manana!

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 03:51 AM) Yeah Hawk fired Tony. Weird too because Hawk says Latin managers are the best. Tony must have learned how to manage from 85 to 2005:) Amazing it only too him 20 years to make it as the team leader

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 03:45 AM) I mentioned this in the game thread but I forgot people stop reading those after the game I'm an Ozzie fan but have you noticed how Tony La Russa is able to get his teams to keep their foot on the pedal even though they have nothing to play for? That's the difference between great managing and a good manager who doesn't have the experience. You bring up a good point. Didin't Hawk fire LaRussa? I now blame the Hawk for this debacle

Alright here is what I am going to do ... DEEP BREATH .... We win tomorrow and I will feel better. We will find a way to beat the Twinkies. Now I am pissed there is no WGN Sox game this weekend. They are on Thurs PM, but I have to work. Can I quit my job to watch them?

QUOTE(JimH @ Sep 15, 2005 -> 03:35 AM) This loss is due to Dustin Hermanson not executing in the 9th inning. They had a two run lead, a two run lead is a two run lead, whether it's 9-7 or 2-0. He fell behind hitters and then left everything up in the zone. 4 consecutive hard hit balls, game over. This falls on Dustin Hermanson's shoulders, and Dustin Hermanson will likely be the first one to say so. I am sure he will too. They take their lumps, but it don't change the fact they suck and keep sucking. Something needs to be done and I am not sure what it is. An Ozzie or KW ass kicking maybe?

ElDuckie needs to sit and maybe Garcia needs a rest too. I want McCarthy to get a start.
