  1. QUOTE(JimH @ May 18, 2005 -> 11:48 PM) This was discussed today at the game and later on at Buffalo Wild Wings. I would not be surprised with a roster move, would also not be surprised if Cotts is optioned out and a guy who can pinch hit and play 1B is brought in, can you say Greg Norton. Not saying "for" or "against" on this, just speculating. If Cotts is optioned, he can be brought back at any time. Walker would need to go thru waivers, not that he'll be claimed but it's something to think about. If they send anyone down it would probably be Walker and not Cotts. Walker has not been used other than maybe a couple innings since he was called up and he was brought up solely for the last series' we played.
  2. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2005 -> 07:57 PM) MB with another quick inning, Sox lead 5-0 going to the stretch. Now the question becomes with MB around 100 pitches, do you send him out for the 8th or do you get guys like Cotts, Walker, and/or Shingo some work? Let him go another inning and if still leading 5-0 bring Shingo in for the 9th and let him THINK he is closing out agame. Hopefully he will start being successful.
  3. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 18, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) Home runs are fine and dandy but how about some hits with men on? Under .200 ( with men in scoring position too) is not acceptable for anyone no matter how far or how many home runs they hit. I am just not gonna get excited over a home run when he is hitting as poorly as he is. String some damn hits together. Can't argue with you there qwerty. It seems we have a real problem not getting runners in when in scoring position and less than 2 outs. Even Ozuna's at bat is an example. 2nd and 3rd weith 2 outs and he gets caught looking at strike 3. Protect the plate when you have 2 strikes on you. Be aggressive for crying out loud.
  4. QUOTE(Steff @ May 18, 2005 -> 07:50 PM) I'm not making any comments that include religious references... :rolly Let's all sing a hymn or Bruce Springsteen, one or the other
  5. QUOTE(Steff @ May 18, 2005 -> 07:43 PM) Apparently there's been a resurrection at Comiskey today... Steff, Are you thinking what I am thinking? That Konerko and Dye might have been born again in this game?
  6. Jon Garland rules as far as I am concerned. Plus Dustin is a bonafide closer and I hope Ozzie sticks with him.

QUOTE(ChiSoxFan @ May 17, 2005 -> 05:47 AM) I know he's not hurt (at least I don't think he's hurt), but ever since he signed his deal last year, the guy hasn't been the same pitcher. He used to be lights-out and by far the best reliever on this staff, but he's not the same anymore. Everytime he's up there, he's 3-0, 3-1 on hitters, and giving up extra base hits or walking people. I know his ERA is in the mid 2 range, but everytime I see him, it seems like he always misses his spots. To be honest, everyone is worried about Shingo being the least productive reliever. I think at this time, it's Damaso. Whatever it is, I hope he figures it out and soon. Losing this one tonight hurt. They both are struggling and need to be more consistent with the strikes. I think it will come. I am very impressed with Politte even though it's early in the season.
  8. I thought we were in first place? Patience is a virtue and we must be patient with our hitters. They will hit. Do not panic! Anderson and others need more seasoning at the AAA level.
  9. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 17, 2005 -> 03:34 AM) Yeah, I'll agree. Aaron's comin' around (thank goodness), and Pods can get on base and do damage... Good assessment. There's no other way to put it: K-nerko, Death, and Crazy are playing like s***. No one can argue that after Aaron the 4-5-6 and wherever Joe Crede is at just absolutely measn death to any Sox rally. Hopefully it won't be that way all year.
  10. QUOTE(Capn12 @ May 17, 2005 -> 03:25 AM) When Rowand is in the 2/3 hole, he seems to be on his game offensively...so lets f***ing leave him there. Not like anyone else has stepped up and taken control of the spot. Yes! If Konerko could ever get back on track- and/or the Big Hurt gets back I think we will start having some production and it will be led by Aaron.
  11. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 17, 2005 -> 03:24 AM) I was yelling for Politte last night and the night before...........tonight is the reason why. He totally shut down TX when he was in there and made it look easy. Me too! I think Politte has really come around. Last year he was good, but everything hard and fast was straight. He seems to have some movement on his pitches, locates them better and mixes it up more. Results: one heck of a relief pitcher.
  12. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 17, 2005 -> 03:21 AM) Much as Crede is sucking lately I totally agree that Kong Everett and Dead are absolutely killing this team. On the bright side though AROW is starting to heat up. Nuke, you are abosultely correct. Aaron Rowand is doing it. I just wish the otrhers that suck would adopt his approach to hitting. He goes the other way and isn't trying to murder everything.
  13. This was a tough one to accept. We must be in that little slump right now, and the stellar starting pitching has not been there. They have surrendered 9, 6 and 7 runs respectively, but tonights performance by El Dookie must be the worse. He couldn't even get out of the 3rd. The relief pitching was a plus until Marte gave up another homer. It makes you wonder who will have the most homers at the end of the season? Our hitters or the pitchers? We need to get some of these hitters out of their slumps and I don't know what to make of it. Konerko back in 2003 form; Crede sucks; Everett stinks; Dye is dead. No consistency except being bad. Anyway that's the obvious and hopefully these guys get on track soon. Garland might be our stopper by ending this 3 game skid tomorrow. I saw this game on ESPN and it was exciting enough, but I would love to see Jon pitch. Go Sox. I know you have to expect and accept slumps, but any loss is hard to take.
  14. I would much rather see Cotts back at AAA and starting so he can get stretched out and pitch in a role he is better suited for.
  15. The last 2 games absolutely sucked as far as pitching is concerned, but the offense can do better also. We have so much of this failing to score the runner from 2nd with less than 2 outs that it is just plain sickening. We need to get rolling offense. But, we are in 1st and it's a long season. (That sound is me taking a deep breath)
  16. Let's get some negativity going here: shades of 2003 with Konerko in a slump and hitting his weight. What's going on here? Dye isn't prodiucing either. "What's happening?" he screamed. "The horror, the horror."
  17. Where are all the POSTERS? I just logged on. Shades of last yewar when our pichers give up the long ball and we an't hit a guy that we haven't seen before. Anyway we need some offense to get going here.
  18. I am going to drive down to Denver in early June to take in the Sox series at Coors Field. If I can do that I woud hope some more Chicago area fans would go to Comiskey. Support the Sox!
  19. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ May 14, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) Please forgive me for waxing the philosophical a bit Sox Talk friends, but here goes: I just want to sit back and suck it all in. The Sox setting records for winning games; How the Sox win games; leading the majors in wins; Jon Garland with the best Sox pitching record for starting a season since Joel Horlen; Good publicity for the Sox; FUN; The fact Frank Thomas will be back and the Sox can only get better in the hitting department; I have been a Sox fan since just a kid back in 1959, and I am having fun right along with the Sox. I appreciate the opportunity to share these thoughts and just talk baseball with all you Sox Talk posters. On to October... TLAK SAID: Very cool. My earliest memory is my Dad getting excited at the TV during the Sox '59 celebration in Cleveland. I remember him shouting ‘There’s Nellie Fox pouring beer on Aparicio!” That’s all I remember, I was 7. I lost him last year, but didn’t cry because it was a battle with cancer and we had already talked it through many times. The last time I cried was when the Sox clinched in Minnesota, 2000. If the boys do it this year, maybe I’ll cry again. Some tears from happiness but also a few with my Dad. TLAK: NO! Your POST is what is very cool. My sympathies on the loss of your Dad. It is indeed special to have something that you could share with him and I bet it opened up other great conversations too.
  20. Garcia has been decribed as the Jekyl and Hyde of the Sox pitching staff. You never know which one is going to take the mound. He has the potential, but doesn't seem to be able to be conistent other than consistently inconsitent. Hope he grows that which the Nuke says he is missing.
  21. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ May 14, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) You're old Yes, I am you whipersnapper!!!

  23. I was going to say that even though I watched it on TV it was a great moment, but now with all the shower talk and all... I think I just want to stay out of the conversation.
  24. You can only hope that Shingo gets it straightened out, but as has been remarked here somewhere, "shades of Bill Koch."
  25. Saw the game on WGN. What a super performance by Jon. The guy just keeps getting it done
