Kenny Williams is Calling for a Blackout for Opening Day
Wanne replied to whtsox13's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 08:11 PM) People really don't understand KW's comments. He's simply asking Ozzie to start Andruw Jones instead of Kotsay on Opening Day. -
QUOTE (chwhtsox @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 12:25 PM) I know what you mean, this jerk off lives right next door to my in-laws. I think a flaming poop bag is in order during your next visit...

ASU now #1 (not BA...but ESPN/USA). Start off 20-0 and one game short of the all-time mark of 21-0. Good start for Esmay taking over for Murphy. If Esmay has ANY recruiting talent whatsoever (Murphy's strong suit) ASU will not miss a beat. And this all coming without Josh Spence still not pitching one inning yet due to arm trouble. (Wonder if he now wishes he would have signed with the Halos last year)...

Danks, Buerhle, and Beckham share their brackets
Wanne replied to IamPabloOzuna's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Danks! What a Homer! I shouldn't laugh...I should just wipe my ass with my bracket for a bad as it is after today. -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 11:08 AM) Fullerton might be waking up. Won 3 straight and are back to .500. Really an ugly start to the season for them. ASU at Fullerton for a 2-game set starting tomorrow. ASU with a pretty nice start at 16-0 in the post Murphy era...but really have only played a few good teams to date. I still don't think Josh Spence has pitched this year due to injury. Esmay's done a nice job with them so far... Not sure what I'm gonna do next year. My nephew's committed to play for UofA next season...

But I really don't want to lose Santos or another arm because of this guy. I just don't have a great feeling about Liney right now. Not sure if he's just lost it...or his head is completely messed up. But I really don't want to suffer another season of finding out. It's a big chunk to eat...but would you eat the $4.5 if it helps the team?

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 04:05 PM) Good for Bobby. How can anybody be their best at anything if they drink alcohol? Now that he's removed the poison from his life, he has no choice but to focus on baseball and his family. Nice work BigBoy, way to man-up. I'm not one to throw stones at anybody for the most part...but everybody really handles things differently when it comes to drinking. Some can handle it...some it takes over their life. Alcoholism is not a laughing matter by any means and I applaud Bobby with his decisions he's made. Wish I actually could do the same and follow a path like that...people that do seem to be more at peace with life. That being said...I had probably two of my greatest days ever on the diamond with massive hangovers...

Just head to the Westgate area next to the football stadium....a bunch of stuff there: http://www.goglendaleaz.com/food/westgate_restaurants.html I usually go to Gordon Biersch or Yardhouse down there. Not a big Margaritaville fan but there's one there. or head up to the Arrowhead area around the Padres/Mariners complex. There's a ton of crap there too... Tilted Quilt, Famous Daves BBQ, (go down Paradise Ln and there's a little outside bar joint called Salty's...right back behind the Padres practice fields). There's really too many places to list right around there. My personal favorite is Abuelo's Mexican and Tagliani Italian. http://www.goglendaleaz.com/food/arrowhead_restaurants.html And as for In-N-Out Burger...personally I think that place blows! You want a good burger around Arrowhead area: http://www.freddysfrozencustard.com/ I have to have a Freddy's burger at least twice a week or I have DTs. I like 'em without cheese...and the shoestring fries are great. Click on the menu and roll over a burger... It's on the SE corner of 51st Ave and Bell right next to Walgreens.

I guess my take on it isn't about Jim's bat but more about a change in mentality in the locker room. Not that Jim's not a great teammate and good clubhouse guy...but I think much conversation was had last year about the mentality in the locker room and the younger players being a bit stagnated or muted with the presence of guys like Konerko, Dye and Thome. I wish JD and Jimmy all the best and will always love them for their time with the Sox and their contributions. But I do think it's time to move on.

Why Carlton Fisk is still my favorite Sox player, ever
Wanne replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (wallyburger @ Jan 22, 2010 -> 12:49 PM) If Deion wanted to punch him in the grille, he had his chance and passed. My passion as a Deionista began some 10 years ago, when he had a near scuffle with Carlton Fisk at home plate in Yankee Stadium during Deion's brief tour as a Yankee in 1989 and 1990. Fisk, who had been a party to many great Red Sox-Yankee games and took playing in Yankee Stadium very seriously, was by then with the White Sox. The incident started because when Deion came to bat, he would always draw a dollar sign in the dirt with his bat. That offended Fisk, who -- as he told Boston Globe baseball writer Dan Shaughnessy -- was upset because he thought when Deion did it, "He was pimping me." That day Deion hit an infield pop-up and deigned not to run it out. Fisk, on that day more than any contemporary Yankee the standard bearer of the team's tradition, hated the idea that someone would wear that uniform and not play hard, and had shouted at him to run it out. Deion's two-sport distractions didn't sit well with Atlanta Braves teammates in the early 1990s. "I was burning," Fisk told Shaughnessy years later. "I was fuming for some reason. And this was a guy playing for the other team. So he comes up the next time and draws his dollar sign in the dirt and says, 'Hey, man, the days of slavery are over.' " At that point the two men got in a shouting match, with Fisk telling him there was a right way and a wrong way to play the game, "and if you don't play it right, I'm going to kick your ass right here in Yankee Stadium." It's too bad he didn't -- it might have been that rare baseball time, I think, that no one would have come out of the Yankee dugout to defend a teammate. Classic! I loved Fisk. To this day probably my favorite Sox player ever. -
DBags DFA Byrnes finally....part of the story stated: I still here DBag fans b**** about this out here!

Uni Watch: Sox uniform history plus...new uni ideas?!
Wanne replied to knightni's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 1, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) The jerseys are fine. The only thing I want done is to bring the sleeveless back! ^^^^^^ Me too! The sleeveless ones were sharp IMO. I like the 59 throwbacks too. But to change the unis just to change...I don't like it at all. Have the Yanks changed? The Red Sox? Cubs. Dodgers? Leave the uni changes to the bottom feeders who merely need a quick revenue boost selling new merchandise. -
Maybe Ozzie doesn't want to be handcuffed having a guy like Thome on the team again which is all he can do. Part of me doesn't blame him having a base-clogging hitter he feels he has to trot out there every night.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 02:00 PM) I'd like the farm system to be strong too, but its plain old silly to not see that one of the reasons you want a strong farm, is for this sort of acquisition to be possible. I'll take two years of that guy over a handful of very good prospects almost any day, and I don't see any Sox propsects I wouldn't give up in the deal. ^^^^^^^ This. I always thought that's why you wanted a strong farm system too...not just to plug in home grown prospects but use them to acquire established players and stars possibly. I honestly couldn't care less if Charlotte and Birmingham win their leagues if the big team is floundering.

Hello, it's nice to meet you. My name is Devil's Advocate.
Wanne replied to monomach's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Obviously with the signing of Pierre...Jones was no more than a backup plan and potential occasional DH...plus a big insurance policy for Q's next injury. He was never seriously being considered for a starting role. -
QUOTE (joeynach @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 09:01 PM) I dunno I felt like Matsui was the best option for DH as well. I dont really want Vlad "I can hardley move" Guerrero. I guess its Nick Johnson, Troy Glaus, Jack Cust, Garett Atkins, Hank Blalock, Aubrey Huff, etc. Gomes?.... personally I'd rather just bring Thome back though.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 10, 2009 -> 07:59 PM) With the Teahen deal and Viciedo in the wings. Yeah, i think i would. I still don't think Viciedo is gonna be a viable option at 3B. He'll be a LF I think via the Carlos Lee mode...

The Tiger Woods Marriage Saga Thread
Wanne replied to Heads22's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Oh good lord..."serious condition". Haahaaaa....wow! Did he bruise his labia or something?!? -
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Nov 27, 2009 -> 04:56 PM) I actually think Beckham would do wonders in the 3 hole. Unlike most hitters in our lineup- Bacon has the ability to hit to the opposite side of the field and find the gaps. He could have a very big year offensively in the 3 hole if given the opportunity. Maybe the year after...and I agree with your thinking...but just not this next year for the Soph. I'd just give him another year under his belt. Of course that's just my opinion.
-
I still don't get why everybody is so ready to just throw Beckham in the 3 hole. IMO...he's just NOT ready for that role yet.

Wasn't sure where to post this...but this has really been a big stink out here. This past week ASU baseball coach Pat Murphy abruptly "quits". Speculation was there was an ongoing investigation about recruiting misdeeds. Also speculation he and AD Lisa Love butted heads quite often. As brash as the guy can be he really put a great product on the field. Not sure what this does with their recruiting as the recently signed a new class. They named former UDub coach Ken Knutson as the interim coach and are conducting a search. One of the problems between Murphy and Love was Murphy kept pushing for a salary increase. He was only making 300K at ASU which seems pretty measly given the status of the program IMO. Some were speculating he was offered a AAA job (which I doubt happened but who knows). He'd actually do well at that level IMO (if he could get over himself). Already have heard grumblings of some recruits decommiting. Guys like Jake Barrett (3rd Rnd Jays choice...potential 1st rounder this past year) can't be happy. There's just a stench to this whole story. My nephew who committed to UofA recently fed me a few morsels that some friends of his that are committed to ASU whose parents are close to the ASU program said that Murphy was escorted out of the facility by security guards (which doesn't sound like quitting...unless it was a very heated moment). Again...not sure where to post this. But was an interesting baseball story for me this offseason. Something stinks with this and I'm going to find out what the story is.

Unless they see Papelbon or Jenks in a different role...why would they want Bobby? I'm not crazy about this idea.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 02:26 PM) Were this an additional move announced in conjunction with a trade for Adrian Gonzalez for spects, i'm sure everyone would be loving it. What if that conjuction included Lexi in a trade for AG?
