I'm not a big Nick Johnson fan myself. What would you think if KW dipped into that Diamondback well again and went after Conor Jackson? He could platoon with Kotsay (if he comes back) and could be the eventual replacement for Paulie after next year. He's not a stellar defensive player by any means which would make an attractive younger DH. The DBags will have to tender him a contract by mid-December (if they do, he likely will make something close to $2.5 million)...or Jackson will become a free agent. Kind of goes with the going young motif.

I can see what I'm doing for lunch tomorrow and a bunch of other days. Here's the view from my office next to Peoria SC.

As Greg Walkers replacement!...yes please.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) This was a surprisingly well written article and he makes good arguments, especially for Bobby. I really didn't get anything out of that article that I haven't seen people write on here...except maybe for Carlos having off-season sessions with Walker (which not sure if that's good or not...but couldn't hurt). Sorry...but the money Figgins will want won't be well spent here IMO. I honestly can't see all that many changes except for maybe trading for Crawford. But Kenny will probably pull something outta his arse that'll surprise everybody. I just can't see where Figgins would play. Jack of all trades...master of none. Rios-CF Rather keep him there. Not crazy about Figgins as FT 3B. To be honest if this team is serious about contending I could see more of a Brian Roberts addition than Figgins. But that's just me...

White Sox talk new deal with Scott Podsednik's agent

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 9, 2009 -> 10:13 PM) Depends on the dollar amount, anything more than about 3 or 4 million on a short-term deal and I won't like it. I don't mind him being on the team at all though. I think that's a pretty generous amount. I was thinking more along the lines of a 1M- one year with an option. Who knows. I gotta tell ya though...he may very well be worth a 3M- 2 year. I saw him a lot in ST this march and he looked pretty damned good then...probably the best I'd seen him since '05. Three years is out of the question no doubt...but 1 with an option wouldn't bother me at all for reasonable money...and I think at this point in his career 1 or 2M a year with an option wouldn't be bad. -
That's the 2nd time I've seen someone mention carrying 3 catchers? Why?...makes absolutley no sense to me.

Miguel Cabrera got drunk with Sox players Friday night?

Didn't know they did a BAC for a domestic call?...which the rumor of DUI would make more sense. -
QUOTE (The Baconator @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) I feel weird thinking about this, but I almost want tp lose to Detroit tomorrow so Minny doesn't make the playoffs. This is due in part to the fact that I can't bear to see the Twinks with even a chance to win a WS, but also because I believe Detroit is a better team and has a better chance at winning the WS... part of me would like to see the AL Central do well in the playoffs to justify our poor season. My thinking is that if the division came down to one final game and the winner of the Central plays well in the playoffs, it shows that maybe the Central just beat up on each other (I know in reality that the division was very weak but wishful thinking). Bottom line, I want the division to have a good showing in the playoffs but I don't want the Twins to do anything. And if the Central representative does fair well in the playoffs, they'll obviously be set up to be considered highly for contention next year which will make it all the better when we beat them (Detroit/Minn.) to win the division next year. And yes I'm aware that pre-season rankings don't have any real affect on the season (see: Cleveland) but it's all just a way to feel better about the team. I never want to lose...and to be quite honest...I don't like either team. It makes no difference who wins it IMO. But to be honest if Detroit loses tomorrow and Minny wins...I have a feeling the funk of blowing this will carry over with the Tigers for quite a while. What really sucks is with the way the staff is throwing...we're just as good if not better than either of those teams. If the O could have gotten their heads outta their asses along with the bullpen we'd be looking forward to starting the playoffs next week. What a wasted season in my eyes...

Didn't want to make a thread of it's own on this...but hopefully this will be pinned to Rios' mind until next year. Pretty harsh stuff...but understandable. Scroll down... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/stor...&id=4526015

Maybe show this kind of passion when you piss away games against KC, the O's, etc... in May or something. Comes back and bites you in the ass don't it Oz. Now is somewhat a moot point...
-
My biggest fear was the Sox went on a tear to end the season when they're well out of it, giving everyone a sense of false hope...and stand pat and bring everybody back without many changes. Even though there hasn't been many results...Flowers sure does look good at the plate.
-
I can't remember which announcer it was...and I want to say Blyleven...but he was talking about fundamental hitting or something to that effect and he was mentioning watching the Sox take BP before games and said not one of them practiced any taking the ball the other way, hitting up the middle, etc...and everybody was up there just jacking away seeing how far they could hit the ball. Not sure what bearing this has but it always just kind of stuck in my head.
-
I'm not gonna lose sleep either way. As of right now I'm not all that impressed with the upcoming talent available via the draft from top to bottom. Not altogether that great IMO. So the difference between 10-15 probably won't mean squat except for money....

can we DH for Rios too? I'd go: Pods CF Bacon 3B AJ C PK 1B Kotsay RF Quentin LF Flowers DH Getz 2B Lexi SS I really don't want to see anymore of Rios or Dye at the plate. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 07:32 PM) I can't believe how bad a team we've become. Gosh we suck. Unearned runs, no bats, etc. etc. Seriously. I hate that phrase "corpseball"...but it sure fits this team. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 04:21 PM) Honestly, unless we manage to figure out how to get a runner in from third with less than two outs, it doesn't matter how the hell they got there. That pretty much sums it up IMO...
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 17, 2009 -> 10:19 PM) If Oz really promised a lot of changes as was in Cowley's brief item, he's going to have to play Flowers somewhere. at this point I really don't give a s*** who's playing as long as it isn't Dye and Rios.
-
I didn't get to see the game until I just got home and numb nuts gives up 2 dingers...but as far as Danks...it sounds like he was dominant. Why not send him out for the 9th? Anybody?... I know somebody will go with the whole "closers job"...but the way this season has gone you just could see what was gonna happen.
-
hope it's free range where they let him loose so he can graze in peace...

What's Robin's time frame before he wants to start coaching?...

I'm still pissed about the Bears, Lovie, Ron Turner and losing Urlacher...so that's pretty much consumed me today.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 01:23 PM) The only positive is that maybe the Bears will realize that the talent is only as good as the play call. I wish Ron Turner was some where else. God I can't stand Turner... It's the same crap year after year with him. I'm gonna break something in my house one sunday because of his crap play calling/game planning. I give it til week 4 before Cutler starts getting pissed with the play calling.

Really looking forward to seeing more Mr. Hudson in the future...

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 08:29 PM) We're winning so big ... he tried hard with the Sox ... just didn't work out. Might as well cheer him. It's called "class" by our fans. WE need more class in sports today. .... Seriously. Agreed... Nice to get home from happy hour. See a rout in our favor. And get to see Hudson throw. Good times...
