  1. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 30, 2009 -> 10:14 AM) If the Sox home games are sold out, don't forget you can also go to games at other teams' stadiums. If you have a car none of them should be too long of a trip, since I'm pretty sure everyone in the cactus league is now in the Phoenix area. Yeah...but it's not like you want to drive from the Sox ST site over to Scottsdale or Mesa. IMO..stay on the west side. Sox-Dodgers: South Glendale (almost Avondale) Padres-Mariners: Peoria Sports Complex Rangers-Royals: Surprise Indians: Goodyear Brewers: Maryvale Angels: Tempe Diablo (right off the 10...isn't too bad a drive) A's: Phoenix Muni (next to the zoo...isn't that bad to get to) Giants: Scottsdale (pain to get to and long drive). Cubs: SUCKS getting in and out of there...as well as just getting there. Plus...you should be ok during the week walking up. What rocks is I just took this gig with the agency I've contracted with for the past 4+ years full-time. Part of my negotiation was I wanted one of the window offices (which one happened to be available). My office looks out over the left field/3rd base line at the Peoria Sports Complex. I'm not gonna get s*** done this March!
  2. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) I wonder how much govt money has been wasted trying to discredit Barry Bonds because he isnt lovable enough. That's what I was getting ready to say. Doesn't the gov't have better things to do?
  3. I wish I shared Kenny's confidence in Jeff Marquez...but I just don't see it.
  4. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/hotstove08/c...&id=3860861 Let's hope so...but.
  5. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Jan 25, 2009 -> 10:01 PM) Gator pitcher=idiot. http://blogs.tampabay.com/gators/2009/01/t...-gator-pit.html If not worse... http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/college/?p=711
  6. This is the part I don't get about this: What the hell does that mean?!? If it's profitable...why close it? If it has value...why not at least try and sell it off? Tax write-off for Sara Lee?
  7. Surprised ASU is ranked that high....they are YOUNG!!!! Lot's of very good young talent...but very young. And there pitching staff past Leake is a little iffy.
  8. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) What Dye would bring them is 137 home runs and 378 RBI since 2005 – the most from any American League outfielder in that span. What part of that statement is everybody assuming it would be straight up for Figgins missing?!?!? Jesus.... I'd hope it would include either Weaver or Santana in some sort of combo
  9. QUOTE (Sec101Row1 @ Dec 24, 2008 -> 09:23 AM) ['Wanne' date=Dec 24, 2008 -> 01:42 AM' post='1815111] What hotel complex?] The site is located at 111th Avenue, west of the Loop 101 between Camelback Road and Glendale Avenue, and reaches across both Glendale and Phoenix city borders. The two-team facility will be the new home to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago White Sox, and in addition to state-of-the-art baseball facilities, the site will include, residential, restaurant and retail development, 4-Star hotel and 18-hole golf course, developed by Rightpath Limited Development Group I can tell you there's not crap done right now...nothing out there except cotton fields at 111th Ave north of Camelback. I'd venture to say it'll be a few years before that's all done. Westgate did pop up pretty quick by the football stadium though. It'll be nice when it's all completed. Between that new area, Westgate and Arrowhead they'll be plenty of places to stay and go do things this part of the Valley. Westside ST will include...Goodyear (Indians), Glendale (Sox-Dodgers), Peoria (Padres-Mariners) and Surprise (Rangers-Royals)...not too shabby. I don't count Maryvale (Brewers) since it's a s***hole area. I know there's a Comfort Suites the opened not too long ago that's within walking distance to the new park (623-271-9005). Here's a quick little synopsis I found: http://travel.latimes.com/daily-deal-blog/...anch-hote-3563/ Here's another nugget in the above link that in regard to a previous question you had:
  10. QUOTE (Sec101Row1 @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 09:40 PM) A rep from the Sox called me from Camelback today. He said it wont be complete til Feb. Does anyone know if the Hotel Complex is completed, and what the name of it is? Better yet does anyone know where the Team Hotel is ? I would'nt mind staying there hanging out with players. It would be like a mini Soxfest, without the crowd. Soxfest West. What hotel complex?
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 11:01 PM) If the options were mediocre retread, Owens or BA, I would love for them to give BA the same opportunity they gave him in 2006 when he wasn't ready for it at least mentally. It wouldn't surprise me if the annual search for a CF came to an end. My only concern with BA is he seems to get hurt a lot if he plays. I honestly have no problem handing the CF position to BA. You know the D will be stellar...and if he could put up a .240 avg....and in the neighborhood of .300 OBP...I'd be thrilled. Problem is...there's really no other position for the leadoff hitter to come from right now unless Kenny pulls Roberts outta his arse.
  12. QUOTE (scenario @ Dec 22, 2008 -> 04:16 PM) Note to Sickels... It's Viciedo.... not Viciendo. at least he didn't say Visciano (which I'm waiting for)...
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 23, 2008 -> 04:10 PM) Ah, OK. I was just thinking... if you get Figgins for PK, you put him in CF, and your outfield is set. You now just need a 1B. Or, you move Dye to 1B, and you need 1 OF, which could be Anderson/Owens (though that's not ideal by any means). Mostly your leadoff position is set.... Somebody buy Fields a 1B mitt...
  14. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 22, 2008 -> 09:13 PM) I understand that the DBacks are in financial trouble, but there's no way they'd just up and give away a catcher that put up an .800 OPS in 400 or so PAs last year Snyder's salary is over $1.85M I believe...but on the flip side...he's a hell of a lot better than Toby for the money. Word out here was the DBacks were shopping Snyder anyway.
  15. Still scratching my head as to why the DBacks took the catcher from the Tigers in the Rule 5...but they now have 3 catchers on there roster. I honestly doubt they'd find anybody to take Chris Snyder and his $1.85M salary...but I'd be interested in Miguel Montero. They need pitching badly.
  16. Cabrera was an idiot to not accept arbitration IMO....and he would have made this team better despite what a lot of people feel about him.
  17. Just drove past it this morning...still A TON OF WORK left to do. Can't remember where I read this...maybe the AZ Rep...but they were supposed to have a tour by a few players and team personell earlier this week that was rained out. Seemed strange at the time to have something like that rained out...but after going by this am...it's still nothing but mud all the way around. Took my camera out there but couldn't even get close enough to take some pics. The practice fields on the south end (along Camelback...which I believe is Dodgers side) are done...but still...the stadium doesn't look close to being done nor the roads/lots into it. But they had a ton of people out there working...
  18. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 04:01 PM) If you could get him on a 1 year deal, I would be interested in doing that. I think Marquez would be best served starting the season out in AAA, and going the Gavin Floyd route back up to Chicago. Poreda and Richard would battle for the 5th starters job, and if either fails, you've got Marquez and hopefully a healthy Contreras waiting in the wings. Garland could have an ERA around the high 4's, but he'd also eat 180 innings for you at least, which is something this rotation probably needs. I'm not counting on crap from Marquez...this year or next. I'm just not seeing it. As for Jon...I'd do a 2-year-20M...give Poreda first shot and have Richard in the pen.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 18, 2008 -> 03:37 PM) what does "any one can time 100 mph if they see it enough" mean? the batters can time it....
  20. I LOVE BOBBY!!! Hope that chip stays on his shoulder all year...
  21. QUOTE (qwerty @ Dec 17, 2008 -> 02:26 PM) Athletes have been known to doctor hop until they hear exactly whatever it is they wanted to hear. The baldelli market has been rather small (almost nonexistent) and this is a sure fire way to get the market going. Baldelli has millions upon millions (might still sign a one year deal to raise his value)of reasons to get this news now of all times. First thing I thought of too. It's AMAZING how these things happen.
  22. Obviously Bedard isn't healthy...but if Cabrera is healthy I'd take a flyer on him in a heartbeat.
  23. QUOTE (R.J. @ Dec 10, 2008 -> 02:28 AM) Some very strange things. to each his own...but that avatar cracks me up.
  24. And either move him to 1B or one of the other high dollar OFs. Jesus...they take JD and that's over $50M in that outfield.
