QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 08:51 PM) It was the speedy JD. Ah...thanks. Just caught out of the corner of my eye walking around the kitchen and thought wtf?!?. DP here Clayton!!!
-
Nice play by Punto...but did Lexi even get out of the box?....
-
Not sure if I'm in the minority here...but I'm happy with Jose's outing except for one stupid pitch to Crede (and the dumbass call of pulling in the infield). Jesus...the dude blew out his achilles and wasn't expected back til when...June or July?
-
If Crede sees anything else except outside...I'm gonna be pissed.
-
Why would you bring the infield in this early in the game?...

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 08:31 PM) Leaving way too many runners on base, especially with our big hitters up. Quentin's just awful this year when he tries to pull the ball. His only two good swings were on pitches he drove up the middle and to right center. Carlos just trying to do too much right now. He just needs to settle down a little.

These stories are so damn sad....and so DAMN AVOIDABLE! Like many...saw him throw last night...and then to read this not too many hours later...wow. Makes you realize how precious life really is and can be taken away at any moment. RIP Nick!

Should the Sox Retaliate for the CQ Beaning?
Wanne replied to BaseballNick's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Agreed with "let's hit the ball and score some runs"...but if this stuff continues to happen...especially against the Royals somebody needs to get drilled. I'm sure after a while of Sox players getting drilled...people will be up in arms. It was only one game...but let's see where it goes from here. -

QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 07:26 PM) Mike MacDougal will figure it out and be a stud. I almost hate to say this...but that was the first name that came to my mind as well.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 24, 2009 -> 11:35 AM) Ozzie said in 2006 he didn't care what Anderson hit, he was only concerned with his defense. He was playing great defense and not hitting, when that extended through June, and everyone but Dye stopped hitting and offense from CF was needed, BA rode pine. Its not easy coming up with a world champion taking one its most popular players' place, and BA was a bit immature anyway. That was exactly my point that I didn't iterate very well. I'm pretty happy with BA's maturity as player now. I'd just like to see him get some constant ABs. I honestly don't even think Owens just even be a remote consideration for this roster at this point.
-
Pretty much in full agreement with NorthSide and Cali. It's gotta be BA's job to lose IMO. Bat Getz leadoff and let's move on and put this thing to rest. BA is obviously the superior defender out there...plus...when has the guy HONESTLY been given a shot with consistant innings and abs since he was pretty much tossed to the wolves after Rowand was dealt his rookie year?

I strongly suggest (when leaving on busy days) to go west on Camelback to Dysart Rd and either go up to Glendale Ave or down to Indian School then back east to hit the freeway to avoid the bottleneck on Camelback when leaving. Might seem a tad out of the way by a few miles...but I HATE sitting in traffic. Gorgeous place. GREAT FOOD! Really good Chicago Dogs as well as brats. Also...if you get a lawn seat remember the Sox bullpen is in right field. if you go this week...make sure you take sunscreen. It's supposed to be sunny and close to 90. 82 tomorrow. I'll be out there!

Just got back from my extended lunch of a polish and a couple of beers. I know it's early...but Paulie looks pretty dialed in already. Had my Illini "Chief" shirt on and Salas tried talking me out of it for a glove. Told him if the Illini lose today I'll give it to him monday. Not sure if he can even wear an XL. Nice way to spend a lunch hour though.
-
Did Ozzie just really say "bro"?...........LOL. Seriously though. We're damned either way. Anderson is the best CF we have. We need a leadoff guy. Wise is a better bench guy. Owens just isn't good. We need a leadoff guy. Honestly...if Getz gets the nod at 2B...I'd rather have him lead off and stick Lexi in the 2-hole. Hopefully Fields can pick up some slack of the pop at the bottom of the order vacated by Lexi. And let BA do his stuff on the field without looking over his shoulder every at bat. If BA just wiffs completely...then look at something different. Just my 2¢.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 06:10 PM) I was at the game today. I’m in a hurry so I’ll just give you a few highlights (and lowlights)/ 1) Aaron Poreda, he had a shaky first inning, but his fabled slider really worked for him starting in the second. If he can throw that pitch consistently for a strike he could be nigh unhittable. Definitely the highlight of the game 2) Wilson Betemit cannot field AT ALL. He either has no range or is extremely lazy. Make of that what you will. 3) Getz has some serious wheels, and a nice level swing. 4) Vicideo will chase after any slider, no matter where it is. This really needs to be addressed. 5) Owens is awful. (Barring one great defensive play) moving on. 6) Michael Restovich finds it awkward that I knew his name. Deal with it, Restovich. I know everyone 7) Lillibridge, Getz, Walker were nice enough to sign autographs. Got a good picture with Lillibridge, and told him “Keep hitting, man and you’ll make this team.” He smiled, good for him. 8) Kenny Williams looks awesome in his skybox. That’s an intimating figure. 9) Harold Baines looks oblivious when you call him out. Hilariously so 10) Jeff Cox is awesome. Was there today too! Betemit is terrible fielding. No range. Getz will be starting 2B. Owens is simply a groundout to the right side in every at bat. Paulie was Mr. GIDP today. Viciedo looked TERRIBLE today at the plate. Out in front of everything and completely off balanced. Got a foul ball today (7th inning) and had Walk sign it after the game. Mentioned to him that he's caught a lot of crap the last few years. His reply was kind of funny. Beautiful complex!!!!! Great food too! Funny you remarked about Harold. I remember that chick yellin' at him for something goofy. It was kinda funny. Sec...GREAT SEATS! Had to kick people out from in front of us before the game waiting for autographs. (only bad thing about them)/

Anyone surprised to see the Trib attendance bashing?
Wanne replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What a stupid-ass story. Hell...looks who's clubhouse/office facility is almost twice the size as the Dodgers. Write about that Rick. -
I kind of figured it was going to be that way. I plan on going the back door route...probably get off at Glendale Ave and swing out to El Mirage Blvd and circle cut back onto Camelback. For people coming from the east I'd get off at Indian School and cut up on 107th Ave. I try to avoid Camelback Road like the plague (no matter what side of town). As for the speed cameras...they give you a 9-10 MPH buffer (which seems reasonable to me). But you have to watch where they keep changing the speed limit signs from 65 to 55. Anymore I just drive around 63-64 if I don't know what the limit is. btw...here's a quick little link for some entertainment for those coming out: http://phoenix.metromix.com/bars-and-clubs

I'm not basing this on the fact he had two hits today...I've had this feeling for the entire offseason...but I honestly think Jason Nix is going to be a HUGE factor at 2B this spring. He'll make for some tough decisions come the end of March when it's all said and done IMO. Wouldn't be surprised if he emerged as the starter to tell you the truth. He's kind of been the "forgotten guy".

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 16, 2009 -> 10:35 AM) thx for the info. Can you recommend any live music venues? Depends on what kind of music. Martini Ranch-Downtown Scottsdale. Probably the best IMO. Other clubs near by also like Axis. Char's- A little hole in the wall (an old house off of Camelback and 7th Ave). Blues music. I actually like this place. Margaritaville at Westgate has bands on Friday and Saturday I know. Haven't been there yet though. Not sure if downtown by Chase Ballpark will have bands yet (usually when it warms up)...but still nice to go down there and look around and even stop by Marjerle's. Or... Alice Cooper's Jackson's on 3rd. These 2 places have live bands...but again not sure if they'll start up by March. All in all...not much on the west side yet in terms of live music clubs. Probably have to go to Scottsdale or Mill Street at ASU for that. I'd probably recommend Martini Ranch 1st though.

Thanks for posting Balta. Gotta say though...the restaurant selection they gave was sketchy (mostly who the hell wants to drive to Chandler to eat). I figure most people will be staying on the west side or northwest (Arrowhead area). Here's my suggestions for eats. Arrowhead area: Abuelo's- Mexican. (South of Bell off of 83rd Ave. By the Harkins theater). OUTSTANDING! Definately in my top 3 favorites to eat at! Cucina Tagliani- Italian. (Right on Bell and 83rd Ave area) VERY good. Ah So- Sushi/Japanese. 2 locations. 1 at 75th Ave and Paradise Lane (just below Bell). The second is at 61st Ave and Bell. Smaller place but MUCH better food IMO. Skye Restaurant A little upscale. Fine dining with entertainment. Excellent food!!! A little on the pricey side though. VERY NICE place. Check it out online: skye-restaurant.com/ Downtown Glendale (55th Ave & Glendale Ave) Downtown Glendale is kind of a historic/quaint area. But these to places ARE THE BOMB. La Piazza al Forno. Some of THE BEST food I've ever had. Great Pizza. Great Italian entrees. Haus Murphy- German food. Great food and beer selection! A few of my other favorites: Pappadeaux- Cajun/Seafood. (North of Peoria Ave on the I-17 access road) One of my favs. I highly recommend crab fingers with dirty rice. Gotta have a Swamp Thing to drink too! Texaz Grill- 16th St & Bethany Home (Phoenix). Kind of a hole in the wall steakhouse. GREAT steaks and THE BEST Chick Fried Steak you'll ever eat! Also here's a list of places to go at Westgate (area right next to the football and hockey stadiums): http://www.goglendaleaz.com/food/westgate_restaurants.html Out of these places I prefer Yard House and Gordon Biersch and their ridiculous slew of beer choices. Hope this helps a little for the people new to the area.

Kenny's lurking in the weeds like a lion waiting to POUNCE on the right deal!!!
-
That's the one that popped out in my mind. And if he comes into ST and absolutely rakes...what's Oz gonna do? I really think Kenny got lightning in a bottle twice signing this kid. Nice problem to have...but it seems Kenny's gonna have to clear some room here soon.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 04:18 PM) I think Hudson could turn into one of those value deals that ends up being too good to pass up on. I'd love to get him at 4-5M per season and he might just be available for that. Agreed. If the market gets to the point where he'll be at around $5M....and he agrees to play CF (which is the sticking point I'm not real sure he'd go for)...than it's a no-brainer. On the other hand...the guy seems a bit injury prone...so CF probably isn't the best place for him. Kind of a crapshoot IMO.

I'll miss Juan. For as frustrating as he was at the plate a lot...he played stellar defense (especially out of position at 3B this past year). Always seemed like a great clubhouse guy and teammates seemed to love him. Personality-wise...he was the Anti-OC. I'll always love Juan for all the things he brought to this team. Wish nothing but the best for him.
