  1. I, for one, promote the signing of ballplayers with handicaps. I mean, the man is one-armed and playing baseball. Kudos.
  2. QUOTE(The Bones @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 07:59 PM) Does that make me an idiot or a liar? Well, those were my two options.

    Cola

QUOTE(mreye @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 08:00 PM) Pop Vs. Soda Thats excellent! lol Now that I'm down a school, I'm noticing all the southern kids call it soda or cola as well. I think pop is a very mid-western thing.

  5. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 07:36 PM) No, we do not need 200 2B bench players. We need someone for SS/3B platoon. Besides, his name is hard to pronounce. He's played all around the IF during his career. But, has been the everyday two-bagger for a few years now. I wonder if he would consider a move if he were promised a set amount of starts. At least here, he should have more of a chance to play. The Phillies brass have major wood over Utley.

    Cola

Cola. Ha! Us Chicagoans could tell you weren't from around here even if we didn't know ya, buddy. Pop. "I'll have a liter of cola."
  7. I know we were ga-ga for this cat before we got Iguchi; but, does he even get a look? Then again, why would he come to the Sox to backup if that's the reason he wants to leave Philly? Boy, I dunno. I know this is probably a long-shot, but felt it was worth mentioning in PH since we were in love with him early in the off-season. Per Rotoworld Placido Polanco, who accepted Philadelphia's offer of arbitration after not finding the free-agent market to his liking, hopes to be traded to a team willing to use him as a regular. ''It's a situation I can't control,'' Polanco said. ''I don't like to be in this situation. I hate to be in this situation, but I have to live with it.'' Let's all feel sorry for the player who chose -- yes chose -- to make $4.6 million to act as a reserve rather than $3 million or so to be a starter elsewhere. The Phillies figure to be very open to trading Polanco if anyone wants him. Feb. 22 - 5:52 pm et
  8. Ah yes, the McDonaldald thread. Still the favorite for 2005 Thread of the Year.
  9. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 05:23 PM) Have no fear, there is more Iguchi Looks like Willie wants to kill Iguchi... Willie is hoping Iguchi left his cup in Japan.
  10. Those blanket statements about Michigan recievers are downright goofy. :headshake
  11. Yes! I'm giddy. Its so freaking cool to see Iguchi in a Sox uniform! Mr. Harris, your plane is now boarding. Looking good #15!
  12. I wish we could just skip these next two at home and get straight to OSU. OSU is going to be one, tough game. Any Illini fan that says he isn't worried is either a) a complete idiot, or b-) lying. Hopefully we finish the season blemish free, but you have to believe the Bucks are going to give it everything they got.
  13. Well, Ozzie also doesn't hint at the possibility of bringing in a vet at this juncture. We may be looking at an addition at the deadline. For now, its Valdez's spot to lose. He's one of Ozzie's boys, but if Ozuna impresses in ST, he's in. Personally, I have no problem with Valdez or Ozuna as the utility IF to start the year. Let's bring one up and see what he can do. Remember, we don't really need offensive production from a utility spot, just consistent defensive and maybe the ability to lay down the bunt.
  14. Kenny: So, Willie says to me; he says...
  15. The trend I'm most excited about is Sox players willing to do whatever it takes, even at a discounted price, to stay on the Southside. That is a very positve trend. With a Japenese connection in Iguchi and Shingo, some good old red-blooded Americans in Paulie, Buehrle, Gload, Garland, Davis, etc, and a very strong latino presence in ...well...basicily the rest of the gang, I think we could have a very loose clubhouse, resulting in production and most importantly, Wins. I want nothing more than for this current core to succeed. We could be in store for a very special 05'. I'm nowhere near ready to expect the rest of the AL Central to hand it over, but I think we have a great shot.
  16. QUOTE(CrimsonWeltall @ Feb 21, 2005 -> 12:42 PM) You can only go so many years with ZERO character development. OK, Homer is dumb, Bart is a troublemaker, Lisa is a know-it-all, etc WE GET IT. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... If you ask me, the success of the show has a great deal to do with character development. If you look at TV trends, I don't know if they are cartoons, sitcoms, whatever, the introduction of new character often brings about the demise of the show. The Simpsons have not introduced any new characters within the last 8-10 years. You're not the world's longest running cartoon, or TV show or whatever they won, for no reason. Let's brainstorm; name some shows that bottomed out with the introduction of new characters.
  17. No offense to all the good people at Soxtalk, but you have to know what you're getting yourself into when you decide to spend your free time at a baseball fourm. This fourm, first and foremost, is a place to discuss all things Chicago White Sox. That's what it is. That's why its called "Sox Talk," and not "Everything Talk." To that end, I really don't put much stock into anything I read in the Sex, Lies and Politics forum. The truth of the matter is, if I wanted to discuss anything political or societal, I'd converse with friends, professors, or the other brillliant and respected minds here at the University. This fourm isn't a mouthpiece to spew whatever pops into your head, PC or not. Hell, if it were up to me, there wouldn't be a place for these types of discussions on this board. I come to read Sox things first, and everything else second. The crux of my arguement: if you're here to discuss geo-politics, you might be in the wrong place. That's why I made a vow to stay out of this forum as much as possible. Personally, I don't give a h00t what any of you think outside the baseball realm.
  18. Boy, I don't think its fair to imply Jurassic was on the juice. Last year, he was flat-out flabby and out of shape, most likely from being unmotivated in Montreal. Even Pudge jumping in the middle of the steroid scandel...isn't anyone safe? why is this in the PH forum?
  19. Per Rotoworld Greg Maddux won't have Henry Blanco as his personal catcher this year, manager Dusty Baker said. ''I'll have [Michael Barrett] catch everybody,'' he said. Disappointing news for those in daily change leagues. Of course, there's a pretty good chance this will change at some point. Blanco is familiar with Maddux from him time in Atlanta, and Barrett is going to need one day off per week. Feb. 20 - 2:29 pm et Source: Chicago Sun-Times "So....you're telling me you paid how much for Henry Blanco to be a fulltime backup?" "Excuse me for one momment, won't you."
  20. Wasn't she in the parade closet with Smithers? My beloved Simpsons are slipping in their old age.
  21. ...and if he orders one of these from Japan, he'll triple in size. Odd thread.
  22. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 05:31 PM) Doesn't say, but I think that's BIG BEN standing up. I think you're right. I know Pierzynski uses Nike gear, but it looks like none of the visible guys are wearing it. He's either the guy right in the front, or the guy in the very back making a throw back to the mound.
  23. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 20, 2005 -> 05:29 PM) Who's who?
  24. Dale should be happy with a third place finish. He was a non factor all day and ended up with a top 5 finish. Not too shabby.
  25. Agree on the Goodyear ripping. What an awful showing. Early in the race, they have already screwed things up for a number of drivers.
