  1. And I can say I was at the concert that marked the beginning of the end. I witnissed the beginning of this train-wreck first-hand. That is one concert-going expierence I'll never forget. What a clown.
  2. QUOTE(beck72 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 08:51 PM) Mueller could start somewhere and get decent money--more than the sox should and probably would pay him. But a relatively cheap guy like Burroughs wouldn't be bad Ah, ha...the force is strong in you, young beck72. But, seriously, I just don't see Mueller happening when you may be able to net that reserve-type via the trade of Marte or the like. If Mueller is signed, the payroll is hovering around $90M and that's not taking into consideration the offers I'm sure the organization would like to extend to Pierzynski, Garland, etc.
  3. QUOTE(beck72 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 08:42 PM) If the sox are going to get a guy via trade, a versatile guy like Alex Cintron or Billy Hall would make a lot more sense than a one trick pony like Burroughs. More than likely, Crede will be around. But if he went down for a lot longer, getting a strictly 3b guy like Burrouhgs would be OK That's where I'm going with this. I'm looking for an inexpensive answer to spell Crede if/when his back problems flare-up on him. Mueller is certainly an answer. But, he is an expensive answer. You also have to ask would he even be willing to sign on as a reserve/platoon type?
  4. QUOTE(beck72 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 08:31 PM) Mueller won't be with the white sox. It would make more sense if the sox got someone who could play a solid 3b as well as another position. Mueller only plays 3b. Paying Mueller $4 mill a yr as Crede insurance makes little sense, esp as he can't play somewhere else in the field I'm going to throw Sean Burroughs' hat into the mix. Thoughts on him, beck and Jim? Although he has mostly played 3B in his shot career, the transition to 1B is quite logical, and documented as rather easy for most big-leaguers. He is making a little over $1.5M this season and in my humblest of opinoins, can be hand for Damaso Marte straight-up. Take a look at the Padres' left-handed situation...it's dreadful. Yes, that kid they drafted last year is on the fast-track to the bigs, but Damaso Marte is proven MLB talent. You trade for Burroughs, you sign Myers--who is dynamite against lefties. Honestly, I want thoughts on this.
  5. Well, thanks for the recommendation Goldy, believe it or not, I actually thought about flipping my car this morning. Seriously: I'm glad you're ok, buddy.
  6. QUOTE(shawnhillegas @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 07:48 PM) and what about jeff bajaneru? is he ever going to get any love? On Soxtalk? Not a chance. Try elsewhere.
  7. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 07:43 PM) good thing nobody here is a GM. I have a hard time just debating who I should draft for fantasy football. I also don't think Kenny will try to change the team anymore with a huge move. He isn't done but they will be much smaller moves. You can't risk messing with the chemistry of this team. The acquisitons of one Sean Burroughs and one Mike Myers are far from huge moves. Barring any complete clubhouse reconciliation, Damaso Marte is as good as gone. Ozzie doesn't have time for this kid's table bulls***. Rest assured, Josh, neither Burroughs nor Myers are going to be a part of this roster. That's just what I'd like to see take place. Alright, my armchair GM time is now over.
  8. QUOTE(KWs OK for Me @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 03:46 PM) SP 1. Buehrle 2. Contreras 3. Garcia 4. Garland 5. McCarthy RP 6. Hernandez 7. Cotts 8. Politte 9. Jenks 10. Vizcaino 11. Marte I've been hearing that Hermanson won't be ready by the beginning of the year due to the back problems. I don't remember where I heard that, but I'm not sure, if anyone has any info on that it would be great. C 12. Pierzynski 13. Widger IF 14. Crede 15. Iguchi 16. Konerko 17. Thome 18. Uribe 19. Ozuna 20. Mueller/Backup IF (Primarily 3B) OF 22. Dye 23. Podsednik 24. Anderson 25. Backup OF who can play all 3 spots Thats what I see happening. Interested to see what you guys think. I think you are accurate in the extreme. I'm anticipating our opening-day roster to look an awfully lot like this unless there are some unforseen injuries during spring training. Now, if I were the one wearing the GM hat, I'd send Marte to San Diego for a package surrounding Sean Burroughs, sign Mike Myers to a 2Y/3M deal, and pack it in. Oh, and for what it's worth, I'm not the general manager.
  9. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 07:26 PM) look at the stats Munoz put up in the bullpen. They were pretty good. You are saying all this on his start at Montreal. That start should've never happened. Josh, concede this one, big fella. There's just no arguing Munoz has more value on an MLB roster than Damaso Marte. It can't be done. Damaso has proven when he has his head screwed on right and his pitches working, he is amongst the elite left-handed relievers in the game of baseball. Sorry, buddy, but just step out of this one.
  10. QUOTE(Steff @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 12:08 PM) Nice Jon.. way to ruin a good week. Hopefully they work something out.. I do think Jon would get about $7 million in arbitration. So much for that in-house We are in a pretty damn good spot if Kenny's biggest problems remaining this off-season are locking up Jon Garland and AJ Pierzynski. I Kenny
  11. Woa! Two mild shockers within the past eight hours. Personally, I'm glad the Padres were able to keep him in San Diego. That will make for a lot of happy San Diegins... San Diegoans... San Diegoens...
  12. Before any flaming, let me preface this by signing I haven't got nearly the insight many of the regulars to this particular forum have, nor do I pretend to have it, I'm simply throwing something out there and curious as to its possibility. Let's just say, for arguments sake , Damaso Marte and Ozzie Guillen cannot co-exist on the same 2006 roster. Yeah, what a stretch, I know. Knowing this, Kenny has found himself in a "must move" situation with Marte. Historically, players that must be traded for whatever reason tend to net far less in value because potential partners realize they are in the cat-bird's seat. Ok, we all know this. However, I'd argue with the way this off-season reliever market is shaping up, Marte's trade-value is just as high now as it would be if he weren't in a "must move" spot. With that in mind, how probable would a trade of Damaso Marte to another club for an upper-tier left-handed pitching prospect or two...yes, or two. Whether we are for the guy or against him, I think it's pretty fair to say he remains amongst the top 5-10% of effective lefties out of the pen, and, for that reason, should net a fair amount via trade. My proposition: -Trade Damaso Marte for two left-handed prospects that posses either near-MLB-ready stuff or serious potential...perhaps one "can't miss" and another "project" or "sleeper" of sorts. -Sign Mike Myers. Look at his lefty splits...they are devastating. Not only are last year's very impressive, the numbers from the past three-to-four seasons are equally as comforting. 2Y/$3M gets it done A) How likely is this situation? Is this something Williams and co. are comfortable with given their history? B ) Give me some names. Give me some names of lefties you guys think may match-up in this exact trade. I'm nowhere near as in-tune to the prospect world as you all and I'm genuinely curious. Rock on.
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) There is a difference. I am not dwelling on the sadness. If I was, he would be in Sox gear in my avy... Alright, alright...enough... Let's just go with the Thunder & Lightning.
  14. People forget, but Frank was quite the rogue when he came up as a punk-ass kid. But, he learned to let his game speak for itself, stopped saying ignorant things to the media, and endearned himself to a city he got off on the wrong foot with. That's saying alot. He'll go down as the best player in franchise history and no matter where he goes from here, I hope he wears that Sox cap on the day of his enshrinement. Thanks for the memories, Frank.
  15. "Where there's thunder, there's lightning" Konerko on the left... "Where there's thunder" Thome on the right... "there's lightning" TM* Anyone? Anyone?
  16. Surley he would have caught on if he expressed interest to continue playing baseball and in a year when relievers are getting insane contracts, I'm suprised he packed it up.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) You should have just listened to me the first time I posted it, and explained the history of exactly why it would happen Shame on me.
  18. In increasing order of "grossness": 1) Olives 2) Black Licorice 3) Celery Yes, celery: the solid-food equivalent to water (sans ice-cubes of course ).
  19. If they aren't at exactly the $85M mark, they're awfully close. Just looking at Thome's figure and some of the others, I don't know if $85M is a certainty. Either way, I'm in stunned disbelief. I never thought I'd see the payroll after winning the World Series rise to $85M. The thought of being considered amongst the elite clubs in the league makes me giddy. They still have a lot to prove, but, if the Sox were to have another storied season, we'd be right up there with those East-coasters.
  20. Thought this would be a nice place to say, early last season, did you ever, in a million years, think you'd be thrilled with the thought of re-signing Konerko in the off-season? I know there were many--perhaps a majority--(present company included) that were counting down the days to rid ourselves of Konerko's contract and inability to do the little things...you know, the things that ultimately won us a World Series. What a difference a year makes. I'm so damn happy to have you back, Paulie.
  21. Last thing: I just want to say I never thought we'd see both Konerko AND Thome etched on the same lineup card. In fact, I thought it was impossible. Today, I stand corrected and I couldn't be happier. OUR Paulie is back. Rejoice.
  22. I'll be making a thread about this later...but, how about Kenny freaking Williams!? Does this guy have a master plan or what? This is just simply amazing, Sox fans. Has it sunk in yet? We're going to have Paul Konerko and Jim Thome back-to-back for the next three-five years!!!!! Right-Lefty-History
  23. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 30, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) This made my f***in day. YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ f***in ay'!!!!!!!!! This is just awesome. I was really, really expecting Paulie to be headed elsewhere and when I saw this, I just thought of that million-dollar smile of his and how he has instantly become the player-face of this organization. WELCOME BACK PAULIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm beyond stoked. Absolutely beside myself.
  24. PAUL-IEEEEEEEEEE PAUL-IEEEEEEEEEE PAUL-IEEEEEEEEEE Oh my goodness, this is epic, folks. If this is true--and it sounds pretty reasonable--Paul Konerko, the man that helped carry this team to its first World Championship in 88 years, will be re-joining our belov'ed Pale Hose with serious protection in the form of Jim Thome. I can't still smiling right now. This is so freaking huge. And...for what it's worth...if Paulie re-signs with the Sox, he will have earned the title of my favorite current White Sox. Konerko jersey's in the stands on opening day.........YES!
  25. I'm starting to develop a real bad feeling about this. Something tells me Paulie is ready to spring for coast and play for the Angels even if the Sox are able to meet or exceed their contract offers. This is really tough to digest. I'm bracing myself to bid Paulie farwell in the upcoming weeks. Just got a bad feeling about the whole thing.
