QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 09:29 AM) I say we trade for the roast beef sandwich because it can't declare free agency, it's still under Arbytration. Per The Inside Beat Well done there Lightspeeder!

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 09:26 AM) People who work for them do... But since it's always met with a slap to the face, I'll be sure not to pass along info I get anymore. This place is unf***ingbelieveable sometimes. Are you on the D'Rays payroll? Know what, screw it. Sorry about the snap. It's just that there has been a LOT of conjecture passed of as fact lately. My apologies.

Which Sox Prospects do you Think Are Untouchable
AddisonStSox replied to White Sox Josh's topic in FutureSox Board
Everything I'm hearing would indicate Chris Young is the only true untouchable prospect in the Sox organization--including Jenks + McCarthy. -
QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) No... we get it.. YOU don't. Tampa isn't going to be around much longer. There is no reason to invest in the team so they wont. They make their money with ZERO wins and NO fans in the seats. They don't care... To pass something that involved off as fact is completely irresponsible. No one knows when the D'Rays will be contracted/re-located...at least no one posting on Soxtalk.com anyways.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) Sexy... Sexy. adj. A term referring to the most popular choice when discussing bets, objects, nearly anything debateable in the public forum. It's something I consider to be ignorant approval ...I thought this was common knowledge by now.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:38 AM) I think people are just enamored with Jenks's stuff. The fact is he still has control issues, a BAA of .314 (brutal for a reliever) and a 1.71 WHIP. Right now you take Baez over Jenks, but in a few years no way. That's a decision KW has to decide. He's the sexy youngster right now. He's the flavor of the month. I guess that makes him untouchable.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:37 AM) i agree addy, soooo many ppl around here have some strange love affair with baj. i mean yeah hes gettin it done and the #s are great. but minor league closers typically arent big league closers. imo thats the reason the sox let go of ring, valentine, and almonte. besides baj is 28 years old. i mean the guy probably could be a decent major league player. but his trade value isnt very high, which people cant seem to understand BAJ HAS ZERO TRADE VALUE!!!!!!!! Soxtalk poster or not. Charlotte closer or not. I mean, yes, the guy can probably net something via trade at the prospect level, but when people start throwing his name around as the centerpiece of a MLB level trade I simply laugh. It's just not fathomable. There's a reason the guy still is where he is, and don't tell me because we have a deep depth chart in the BP. Last I looked, we're having some troubles... i.e. Vizcaino

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:32 AM) Its not his 270lb sexyness that we have fallen in love with, its when the radar gun lights up at 100 and the curve hits for a strike. Its also years and years of having guys come up from the minors that barely break 90. We crave HEAT, FILTHY HEAT. LOL But I really dont think that it would take a Bobby Jenks to get any of those deals done. Baj, and a few of our many OF prospects. Tracey has upper 90's velocity. Plus we could add the X-FACTOR to any deal to put it over the top, DINGO!!!!! :enter MVP logic Would you rather have Jeff Badge-in-arrow or Bobby Jenks? What's that? You'd rather have Jenks? Now, what makes you think any professional general manager would be any different?

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:29 AM) Addison, use your quote button better, that is the ugliest post I have seen in awhile. I see you edited it. Jenks wont be dealt for Wagner, the phils want starting pitching. Blah, Blah, Blah. We know the Phils probably wouldn't take Jenks in a Wagner trade. But, if you trade Jenks to the Rays in a Baez trade and are then able to ship him + Burnett or whatever in a trade to the Phils, Ta-Da! You have Billy Wagner. Damn, I'm falling victim to the dreaded armchair technique...now, I bow out.
-
Jenks for Baez is a no-no...that, I'll agree with. Yes! Absolutely. Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Survey Says: Wrong! I can't get over how many of you have fallen so deeply in love with a 270lb. that you wouldn't trade him in order to get a player the callibur or Billy Wagner. :headshake

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:21 AM) Since I don't feel like bumping my lefty LOOGY's thread, here's some lefties with really good lefty splits; ONE'S WE KNOW about: Scott Eyre Ron Villone OTHERS Wilson Alvarez Jeff Fassero Arthur Rhodes Brian Shouse Jason Christiansen Ron Mahay Fantastic. If Kline and Embree don't fit the bill, think Eyre, Villone (who's pretty much considered on the trading block), etc....anyone that can get friggin lefties out is an improvement. I'm serious. Two moves oughta be made. -Trade for Burnett/Wagner -Sign or Trade for a LH reliever. *Pack it up and prepare for post-season play.
-
QUOTE(ceffa2000 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:19 AM) Yeah, but how often could a waiver wire guy BECOME an All-Star closer. Not declaring that he will be, but signs are looking positive right now. Jenks is the sexy new prospect. We get it. But, think outside the box folks. If you're able to use Jenks to acquire a guy like Wagner, you do it in half a heartbeat, no questions asked. We needs someone with veteran/post-season expierence and Jenks ain't it. I'm not saying the guy can't contribute this season, but he won't be able to contribute on the same level as say, Billy Wagner.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:13 AM) I think the sox are as fed up w/ Marte as you. He's had one very solid appearance in the two yrs Ozzie has had him. His time is up. I could live with a Kline or Embree, provided of course the sox upgraded at closer/ set up with a guy like Wagner I thank you. That's all I'm getting at. Are Kline or Embree considered consesus improvements over Marte? No. But, if Marte is dealt for Burnett and Kenny is able to go out and grab either Kline or Embree or Dennis Eckersley (a righty that could get out lefties with the best of em') or whoever, he comes out on top! You're looking at: Losing Marte and McCarthy Acquiring Burnett and Kline/Embree Hang a star on that one for Mr. Williams.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:09 AM) Ugh. How did I not catch that? Just giving ya a hard time, you know that!
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:08 AM) What is Lamar asking? I can assure you KW would not trade Marte for Baez straight up, let alone sweetening the pot. Nobody knows. I love how folks act as if they have spoken to him on the phone. Lamar has a horrible reputation when it comes to making trades; that's all we know.
-
QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:08 AM) PLEASE say NO to Embree. I'd sooner have Koch back. THAT isn't supposed to be green. Embree---> :finger How much f'ing worse can the guy be than Marte? If he comes in and gets out two lefties...he's already BETTER than Marte. Honestly, at this point, I'd just as soon dish Marte and grab a LHP off the scrap heap because the one of the two we have in the pen right now can't get our a LH to save his life. Kline or Embree--I'm sticking to it.
-
QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:05 AM) Am I the only one who thinks that Baez isn't much of an upgrade from Marte? All I know is we have a lefty that can't get out lefties. I'm so friggin fed up with Marte at this point. I'm ready to pack his bags myself if it means acquiring a guy like Burnett followed by a signing of Kline or Embree.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:03 AM) I like the way you think. The postseason is literally belongs to us. That's not much better than the postseason IS literally belongs to us. "All your playoffs are belong to us."
-
Oh my goodness. This place is going to be a complete trainwreck if Kenny doesn't make a single move at the dealine. :unplugs laptop in preparation :takes all pointy objects away from Armchair GMs
-
Comes as no suprise. They're simply the best. Congrats!
-
I know, I know, playing armchair GM here, but I wonder if Kenny could package Shingo along with Willie for Ryan Freel. Why would the Reds be interested in Willie? He provides smiliar numbers and could slide into 2B on the depth chart for the next few years. Why would the Reds be interested in Shingo? Beats me. Perhaps they wouldn't mind taking on that contract if they felt it would help lead to more W's by setting up or closing out ballgames.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:34 AM) How are they promising youngsters??? Huff's been an absolute stud the past few years and right now is getting himself back on track. Overbay was very solid last year and has been better this year, both guys have proven themselves, it's not like we'd be waiting for them to develop. When I think trade-dealine moves, I think proven veterans or someone with can't-miss success written all over him. See, my ideal deadline move is very similar to what the Cardinals did last season to acquire Larry Walker. Walker was a proven veteran with a big stick and the burning desire to get a WS ring. Overbay-though talented, would likely platoon and may or may not a significant amount of offensive fire-power Huff-although more proven, isn't the type of guy that strikes fear in the hearts of his opponents; plus, neither one of these guys would provide a veteran spark.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:29 AM) And you can't use Huff the same way you'd use Overbay??? I'd want either guy, I'd absolutely love either guy. Quick question for ya: will a player coming from either the Brewers or the Devil Rays improve this team so dramatically you would feel more secure in the post-season? When I think, bearing down for post-season play, I don't think promising youngster--something I would consider both Huff and Overbay.
