  1. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:49 PM) Whats up Addy. I only have the weekend and alittle bit of Monday (my computer still isn't hooked up yet; I'm waiting for the anti-virus) but it's good to be on soxtalk again. Glad to have ya back, bud! Best of luck with the computer situation.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:51 PM) Well, I trust Phil Rogers a lot more than Bruce Levine. Fair enough. In best Governor Arnold voice: "Now...we wait."
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:49 PM) Well, most recent Phil Rogers column says it would be Contreras, Marte, and McCarthy for AJB. This would be a brutal, brutal trade for the Sox. Please say no KW! Not happening. From all we've heard, Contreras is out of the deal. Believe me, the Sox are in the catbird's seat here; the Marlins are in no position to make demands.
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) If your AJB's agent, and the White Sox are offering you 3 yr 30 mil....you'd have to think the Yanks or Red Sox or another team would offer more money than that. Burnett is easily the most coveted FA on the market this offseason. This brings up another highly-debated topic; that of taking a contract with a club before reaching free agency in hopes of staying healthy and not screwing up your chances of hitting it big in the future. It's late...but, do you all know where I'm going with this? Perfect example: Ben Sheets. Ben Sheets could have made an absolute KILLING on the open market last season, but chose to take a conservative--I say conservative, LOL it's still in the multi-millions--with his current club to stay put and ensure some money in the bank for the future.
  5. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) Ehh, he sucks almost as much as PK Well played. I luvvvv the Milkman, just giving you a hard time.
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:42 PM) I'm glad you have people like Levine and Gammons. They hear something (and they do have contacts) and they pass it on. Doesn't mean they are going to be right, but I want to know who they are interested in (keeps me interested at least and gives you an idea of what the club is looking at, doesn't mean its going to happen). ...beat me by an eyelash.
  7. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:42 PM) Do trades ever happen in the dead of night? Not being sarcastic, just wondering. He said it this morning, so 24 hours means it has to happen tonight or really, really early. Well, I was hearing these reports around 10 AM. Wait...who the hell cares, Herb! The guy heard something, he reported it...give the guy a break. He's just doing his job.
  8. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:38 PM) So unless they make a trade in the middle of the night, Levine was wrong? Not surprising... To his credit, he spoke a lot of "Within the next 24 hours" talk. So, we can't call bulls*** on him just yet. I know a lot of you are chomping at the bit...but just hang loose.
  9. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) I heard the same thing this morning on espn radio. Burnett has no interest in signing with us. Funny how quickly that will change when Kenny starts throwing around millions upon millions of dollars.
  10. I see SoxAce in here!! Hey buddy! Long time no see.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) Ha, good point. You can tell his shoulder is hurting. He normally has the best looking swing in baseball, but even Joe Morgan can notice the little change. Well, you have to take anything Joe Morgan says with a grain of salt. He probably thought he was best-suited human in the stadium to be at the plate in that situation. Joe Morgan Fan Club: 1. Joe Morgan PM To Join
  12. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) That was one of the weaker ABs I've seen from Pujols in a while. With an open base and a 3-2 count, how do you not know the slider is coming? Yeah, you tell that Albert Pujols how to hit major league pitching!
  13. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:25 PM) And they'll make that play at 2nd base seem like the worst call of all time. I'm an umpire and I have to say that was a really ballsy call. If I'm out there, that runner was out.
  14. This is just priceless. If the Cards come back and win this, the Cubbies and their scores of mindless fans are going to be demoralized.
  15. The Northsiders just got bent over. Anyone else watching the national game on ESPN? Wow. Bad call goes to the Cards on the "safe" call at second on Luna's steal.
  16. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:15 PM) What about Burnett? Aren't you the one that just started that other thread? Yes sir. I have no idea what this kid is doing.
  17. QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:14 PM) what about Pods then? He gone. EDIT: Mr. Wilmot, that is.
  18. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:00 PM) I just feel those seem like big IF's. I can potentially see the Bears as high as second in the division with an 8-8 record. But I have an inkling that the Lions may finally put it together this year, as one of those QB's will have a solid season. I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see Garcia starting and having a big season at some point. Excellent post. Simply put, there are far too many if's with the Bears. Grossman has played in...what...five NFL games? We don't know dick about this kid. Period--and I've watched/scouted him since his senior year in high school. The kid put up crazy numbers in the run n' gun, but we don't know if he can cut it at the professional level. Anyone else who says otherwise is simply speculating. I'm not a bettin' man, but if I was, I'd say the Lions end up with more W's than our belov'ed Bears.
  19. All this white is murder on the eyes...a change back to blue is in the near future.
  20. QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:25 PM) you obviously dont if you dont expect any suprise teams. This is the NFL, understand the salary cap? Somebody is gonna fall off... and somebody will step up You're cracking me up, fella. Let me guess, you love making trades in MVP Baseball?
  21. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:59 PM) Yeah, I'm gonna need you to come in this weekend and cover the trade rumors.
  22. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:27 PM) How does acquiring AJ Burnett guarantee us a pennant? I would appreciate if you could point out for me where I said that. Really. I must be slow today. If you could do that, that would be greaaaaaaaaaaaaat. Thanks.
  23. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:18 PM) When was the last time the White Sox had a 10 game division lead in late July? These seasons do not come along often for White Sox fans, what happens if you have a guy like Lance Broadway or Ray Liotta or Gio Gonzalez ready to contribute in two years? That's why they draft so many pitchers, some need to go in trades to help the big club right now. As in, 2005. Don't worry about 2007. There will be other pitchers coming up. Nicely done. If the Sox can win a pennant with AJ Burnett on the roster, no one will be calling for McCarthy in 2006. FWIW, I'm starting to get the notion this is all about to happen.
  24. Before we get too excited with the thought of Brian Anderson being included in the deal instead of McCarthy, I want to tell you what I just hear about 15 minutes ago on ESPN Radio 1000. Bruce Levine said, and I quote: "Now, the Sox are talking about a deal for AJ Burnett surrounding Damaso Marte and "Brandon Anderson." This really screws things up. Is Bruce just blanking on Anderson's first name or did he meant Brandon McCarthy? Damnit. Get your friggin facts straight and we don't have this problem. A few other nuggets, -Matt Clement, who pitched with Burnett in the Marlins system, said he's one of the best arms he has EVER been around, including the Prior's and Wood's and Schilling's of the world and that is saying alot. He called his stuff electric. -If the deal is Marte and Anderson for AJ Burnett, I would have already lined up the press conference to hand Burnett his spiffy new Sox uniform. -If acquired, the Sox would be the only team in baseball with two AJ's.
