  1. Screw it. I'm in. Officially put me in the Pro-Burnett camp. I have enough confidence in Kenny Williams that if he trades Marte for Burnett, he can go out and fill the LH void created by his departure. Who's with me!!!???
  2. JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING: We have all agreed that Paulie does not fit into 06's plan due to his very high contract demands and the horrible approach at the plate that entails...have we not? Well, Mike Lowell plays 3B. Yes, he plays 3B. A very logical transition for a 3B to make is over to 1B. Yes, 1B. ...just something to think about.
  3. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:45 AM) Not for $7,500,000 or even half of that, and then of course he's under contract for another season. If anything, this lineup needs a good lefty hitter, Lowell doesn't give you that. Yeah, but, D, if the Sox are willing to increase the payroll and have the luxury of keeping a $7.5M insurance resource on the roster, why worry? If money is really the only thing holding you back, and the Sox are willing to absorb that sort of hit, why worry? I think Lowell could be a god-send. Seriously. He's a veteran hitter having a BIG down year, but getting thrown into the fierce competition of a pennant chase may be all he needs to rekindle that thumping bat of his.
  4. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:44 AM) if that happens, i'm sold. I think that is what a lot of folks are hinging on. (present company included)
  5. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:38 AM) I think they would both still be here right? Even if the Sox take on Lowell I haven't heard Crede's going. Also, I would add to Mike Lowell's column World Series Champion. Not a bad bench insurance policy IMO. Excellent posts made by you in both threads this morning. Excellent.
  6. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:33 AM) Posted in the other thread that I really want Lowell as part of this deal at this point, and I think Levine is saying it's still possible he's added. Has anyone heard how the deal changes is Lowell is added, ie what extra do the Sox have to give up, etc... I think if the Sox are willing to eat some of that contract they would probably only have to give up another prospect, but if Marlins eat a good deal of money it would be a high prospect I, too, would be very interested in Lowell for a varity of reasons; the first of which, deals with adding a veteran bat while Frank is on the DL. Also, keep in mind that if the Sox consider taking Lowell in the deal, that may result in keeping Marte on the Southside. Natrually, this is all complete speculation, but if the Sox are willing to take on Lowell and take on a good portion of his contract, the Marlins may see that as a bigger piece to their success than adding Marte. Lowell is a veteran bat that may just need a chance of scenary and a reuniting of sorts with Ozzie to get back on track. Adding a veteran bat that can spell Crede at 3B while taking some at-bats at the DH position with Frank on the DL is NEVER, I repeat, NEVER a bad thing--contract and all. Also, just a few things I wanted to toss out for discussion: -Those worried about chemistry: does the fact that Ozzie worked hands-on with these guys during a WS run help put those worries aside? -How do you feel about adding Contreras to the bullpen to fill-in a set-up role, but also provide the best long-man in all of baseball? -If the Sox aquire a very capable LHP for the pen, have you already pulled the trigger?
  7. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:26 AM) Is Bruce staking his reputation to this one as well? No, that only involves latin shortstops.
  8. Soxtalk's favorite Chicago baseball source, the intelligble, Bruce Levine is reporting the White Sox and Marlins are getting very close to making a Brandon McCarthy + Damaso Marte for AJ Burnett trade sometime within the next 24 hours. This has now become a real possibility as both the ESPN Radio Chicago Sportscenter and the ESPN Radio national Sportscenter-updates have picked this up. Your thoughts? Is this the move to make? Do you consider taking on Lowell with Frank on the shelf? Post it here.
  9. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:18 AM) Marte and BMac are too high a price to pay for Burnett, even if he does re-sign. Contreras and Bajenaru is still better than Boston will offer. Throw in Diaz or Munoz to get it done. Trading Contreras this season? Robbing Peter to pay Paul no? I feel much better trading McCarthy--a non-contributing member of the 05' ballclub, though trading Marte is troubling.
  10. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 05:42 AM) Good to see KW sticking to his guns, and not making a trade if he can't re-sign A.J to a long - term deal. Doesn't sound like Burnett wants to anyway, hence why I think this ain't gonna go down. I know you don't have the advantage of listening to Chicago sports radio, but ESPN's Bruce Levine, the "intelligible" baseball dunce...er...source, is reporting this deal is really picking up and quickly. He thinks this has a very, very good chance of going down. Personally, I think Kenny is trying to hammer out two things: 1) Can he make this happen without having to deal Marte 2) Does he have a puncher's chance of signing Burnett to a long-term deal--something I endorse with PK sent packing after 05' anywho
  11. QUOTE(Frank the Tank 35 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:14 AM) And where are your great ideas? You think just because we can dominate our own division we can take on any and all comers? Reality check, we're not that good. What happens if Oakland gets the wildcard? If the BoSox get in, we're already showing that they can take us. We're even playing on OUR field. What if we actually make it to the Series? Can we match up against the Cards? Yeah our pitching maybe, but our hitting would be WAY overmatched. Get serious, at least some of us are trying to think of possible ways to improve the team. YES, amazingly enough, this team can be improved! IF we play against teams like the Red Sox, A's, Yanks, Cards, they WILL score runs. We don't have Roger Clemens or a RJ or Schilling of the past few years that can COMPLETELY shut down GOOD teams. They will score several runs, and we can't just squeak by like we have been doing all year to lesser teams. Hey, so a lot of these "trades" won't happen, but at least we're showing our passion and enthusiasm for our team. Unless people seriously come in and think we can trade Timo Perez for Miguel Cabrera, give it a chance. If you think it's a dumb idea, argue your point, don't just call it retarded. Maybe the idea is retarded... at least help out a fellow Sox fan and "educate" him as to why it is so. I seriously have to debunk an XBox trade? Are you kidding me? You do understand the dynamics of the professional trade deadline, do you not? Sorry, I'm not biting; I'm staying far away from these things.
  12. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:47 AM) ADDY, YOU NEVER ANSWERED MY QUESTION!!! lol Didn't even see it there. I'm thinking Panthers and Ravens--maybe even the Jags. How about you?
  13. Jeebus, those are just awful. I can't believe how quick these armchair GMs are to absolutely destroy the major league leading club. Not only is it completely unrealistic, it's simply laughable.
  14. These have officially gotten out of hand. Unreal.
  15. QUOTE(DukeNukeEm @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 07:33 PM) NO WAY. Thats impossible. Thats nearly the exact same teams in the playoffs. No way that happen. Way to conservative. No Offense, but those are the worst predictions I've ever seen. I'm not trying to mean. ...talk to me in February, skip. I've been at this for awhile now; believe me, I have a little idea of what's going on. ...I'm sure others can attest to that.
  16. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 03:02 PM) Yep, there were talks about him going to the Astros..Why not make a run at him.. Just think how mice he would look in the 9 hole.. I'm not saying he wouldn't look mousey for the Sox, but he ain't going anywhere. Bobby Cox and co. know exactly what they are doing and will not do anything to alter the makeup of their NL East leading club--just doesn't make sense.
  17. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 02:38 PM) WIth Frank going down again we need a hitter more than a SP.. BUrnett deal looks nice and all but we should be focused on getting Frucal in a Sox UNI The same Furcal that plays for the division leading Atlanta Braves?
  18. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) Here's the latest excerpt from ESPN on what's being considered for Burnett. Brandon McCarthy and Jose Contreras v. Double-A pitching prospect Anibel Sanchez and right-handed pitcher Bronson Arroyo from the Red Sox. BMac and Jose for Burnett? It's still way too costly. Contreras, Bajenaru and Munoz or Diaz. That would be my offer. I believe FL will get nothing better. Golly, that's so scary. Put the phone down Kenny, don't talk to the Fish until those demands lower significantly.
  19. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 02:01 PM) I'd much rather have Schmidt, and I mean much. I'll take Burnett, just as long as it doesn't cost too much. This matters because I'm now the GM, of course. Well played. It's funny when posters get caught up acting as if they are on the Sox payroll. (present company included)
  20. Put the PS2 down and watch a real-life General Manager do his job. ...icky moves.
  21. QUOTE(WSFAN35 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) Sorry, but the fish aren't going to take a prospect and Marte for Burnett. Someone is going to overpay for him, as well as take on Lowell's fat contract. Burnett won't be coming to the southside. No, actually, it appears the Marlins are going to be knocking at Kenny's door from now until the end of the month. Everyone else has backed off, and I hear talks with the O's are almost at a complete stand-still. If Kenny plays his cards right, he may find the Marlins scrapping for a move and snag Burnett for half of what was orignally expected.
  22. These are the games you were brought over for Orlando. Make it happen.
  23. There are three glaring problems I have with Cora this season: 1. Not sending Podsednik at Wrigley 2. Sending Frank v. A's 3. Sending PK v. Red Sox ...other than that, the guy does a nice job of keeping the runners aggressive on the basepaths--same as Rock. Plus, it's Ozzie's double-play partner, c'mon mang.
  24. NFC North: 1. Vikings 2. Lions 3. Bears 4. Packers NFC East: 1. Eagles 2. Cowboys 3. Redskins 4. Giants NFC South: 1. Falcons 2. Panthers 3. Bucs 4. Saints NFC West: 1. Rams 2. Seahawks 3. Cardinals 4. 49'ers AFC North: 1. Steelers 2. Ravens 3. Bengals 4. Browns AFC East: 1. Patriots 2. Bills 3. Jets 4. Dolphins AFC South: 1. Colts 2. Jags 3. Texans 4. Titans AFC West: 1. Chargers 2. Broncos 3. Chiefs 4. Raiders
  25. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 12:52 PM) Buster seemed to think that it would be BMAC for AJ straight up. If thats the case, see-ya BMAC in my eyes. I think he would prosper in the national league anyway. I think if we can do that, we still have more bargaining chips on the table to get Wagner etc. If it takes dealing JC to someone, we would do it and be MUCH improved. I honestly do not see BMAC as our #1 pitching prospect. If that's the case, Buster deserves to lose his job. Brandon McCarthy for AJ, the most coveted pitcher on the market, Burnett straight up? It's laughable. Also, for those of you only projecting McCarthy to be a #3 starter at best, ask Mr. Garland the difference a year makes.
