I'll list the shows the literally get me laughing out loud when I'm home alone by myself. Although shows like Seinfeld and Simpsons get me smirking, there is only a handful of shows that literally get me laughing by myself. -Conan O'Brian -Family Guy -Reno 911 (My new favorite) -South Park (Absolutely genius; what these guys do is simply brilliant) -Da Ali G Show (again, brilliant, but you have to enjoy that sense of humor) /not a big television watcher other than ESPN/Sox/Sports and those shows

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jul 17, 2005 -> 03:22 PM) He's already said he'll turn down those options. The team option requires his consent too. From the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, here. Imo he'll get more than that, and he'll certainly get that plus more years. Perhaps it's about wanting/getting more on the open market. or... perhaps... He'll be getting the heck out of Pittsburgh.

GAME THREAD 7-17-05 SOX vs INJUNS
AddisonStSox replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in 2005 Season in Review
A four game sweep at Cleveland to begin the second half would be simply amazing. It would really set the tone for the remaining season. Looking at the magic number, there's still a long way to go. -
Anyone think Rowand is almost done with the Sox?
AddisonStSox replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Truth is, if Rowand doesn't have 5 HR at this point in the season, this thread is never made. -
A ringing endorsement from his former employer...believe it or not, but that's encouraging.

QUOTE(bighurt2719 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) one problem: guardado is old enough to be my great grandpa. are you one of the people who also suggested a while ago that we trade crede for vinny castilla? experience only goes so far; they need to be somewhat young in order to have some kind of physical ability left. Absolutely moronic post thru and thru. :headshake :headshake

QUOTE(upnorthsox @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 09:09 AM) Is this a fact or are you just speculating? Pure speculation. I'm just praying Crede can get "back" in the lineup soon otherwise the Sox will get anxious to fill that spot on the 25 man roster with someone that can contribute. Believe it or not, gang, the Sox need Crede in the second-half.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 08:53 AM) why do you think it'll be so soon? Meh. Hunch. If not this weekend, then I have no idea when. It's all about striking at the perfect time at this point in the season. You don't want to go out and overpay for a guy early just to get him on your roster, but by the same token, you don't want to sit back and watch three or four other teams come in and start a bidding war. EDIT: For some reason, I just see the White Sox introducing a new member of the White Sox during the first game of the Tigers series, very similar to the first Everett/Alomar trades.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) i understand that he has been getting better, but ozzie seems to still be a little gunshy of putting him into a big situation, like most fans. If we're only going to use him at mop-up right now and we can find a taker, fine by me. Well, if Kenny is able to turn Shingo into a guy like Eddie Guardado, I don't think we'll hear many questioning Shingo's ability to get guys out in pressure situations. A guy like Guardado is far, far, far more valuable to a pennant run than Shingo. EDIT: By the way, I just looked at Guardado's numbers this year. The guy has been lights-out this season. I mean, it really appears he is pitching like the Guardado that simply shut the Sox down for so many years. ...I'm starting to get excited.

It's all about to happen. Whether it's Burnett, a guy like Lilly, a bullpen arm like Everyday Eddie or Billy Wagner, or for someone we never saw coming, the Sox will have some new names on the 25-man roster by tomorrow night. What do you think? Kenny's been quiet for about a week now, having not spoken to the media and we know that to be a pretty accurate tell-tale sign that something is stirring. So, to all you posters that enjoy discussing potential members of the White Sox more than celebrating the current roster, cinch it up and hunker down, cause something is happening. Real quick--one or two sentence replies--who's it going to be? Which MLB player will be playing for our belov'ed White Sox by the trade deadline and who's sent packing? What's the move? ...something else we need to keep a very close eye on coming down the wire White Sox place 3B Joe Crede on the 15-Day-DL.

GAME THREAD 7-16-2005 SOX vs INJUNS
AddisonStSox replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in 2005 Season in Review
It looks like Buehrle v. Westbrook. Gosh, if Crede doesn't start playing soon, we may very well see this come through the wire: The White Sox have placed 3B Joe Crede on the 15 Day DL. ...it's kinda getting scary. That said, the Sox need to worry about keeping their second-half winning-ways alive with a win today. -
Well folks, here's a very logical possibility: -Kenny Williams talks to GM A about trading for a bullpen arm--which, believe it or not, would be a very smart move for the Sox to make. -GM A says, "although I'd like to make that move happen (for whatever reason) there is really no one in your farm system that either: a) wow's our franchise or b ) you'd be willing to trade for said bullpen arm." -Kenny them asks what player GM A has been covetting and wants to know if he aquires this player via a trade of his own, will this GM make the deal happen. I really think that's what's happening. Otherwise, why in the hell would you trade Shingo right now? He's struggling after suceeding with a year of smoke-and-mirrors, you know you won't re-sign him after this season, but, he's still capable of getting MLB players out and has nice chemistry with Iguchi and the rest of the clubhouse. I have to think whomever we trade for will be sent out in another deal. In now way, shape, or form is Kenny going to trade Shingo for a piece of the future given our current position.

Guys like Widger and Ozuna come in and get the job done...I mean, what more can be said? I luvvvv this team.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 03:29 PM) I think the answer here is Obvious.... Aubrey Huff.... Big back... Can play 3B for now... and when Crede is fully healthy it allows us to give Konerko his walking papers... Plus can spell the OF too... Big bat... Impact player.... For a package of Anderson, Sweeney, and BMAC maybe the DRAY'S Will bite.. That's rich. Wow. That's rich.

QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 03:38 PM) One guy that nobody has looked at is rob makowiak of the pittsburgh pirates. This guy has played every outfield position and practically every infield. He mostly has played 3rd this season so a reasonable replacement for crede. Less pop in his bat but better average and onbase percentage. I'm going to stick to my guns here, no matter which MLB player we are discussing: You make the move for prospects. Any deal involving one or more of our current contributing MLB players is simply counter-productive and could greatly affect chemisty--no matter how overrated. I say Kenny hangs in the weeds and makes the deal that ships our prospects and nothing of real value from the MLB roster.

Keep your eyes on Omar Vizquel, gang. Seriously. Now that the Sox are a virtual lock for the playoffs, Kenny may be able to convice JR and company to take on the bad contract in Vizquel. If Kenny was in love with him before the season, I find it hard to beleive he isn't at least sending out his feelers for him now. Omar could come in here and give this team a veteran kick in the pants. It would be awesome. I was calling for him before the season, and I'd love to see him in here now. In fact, you may actually be able to get him for a relative steal if the Giants seem themselves as sellers and want to rid themsevles of the awful contract--something I think Saban had in mind when signing him to that nasty thing.
-
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 10:27 AM) If Omar Vizquel is available, how about him? Uribe could go back to the role where he flourished last season. Omar is getting up there in age, so he would need a breather. Crede probably will need a lot of time off, and Iguchi could rest every now and then. The contract for Vizquel is the turn off. They didn't want to give him an extra year last winter, or he would be with the White Sox and Iguchi would probably not. But IIRC, the difference in the total package SF gave him vs. the White Sox is less than $3 million so maybe they would now be willing to roll the dice, considering $2 million of that contract has already been paid and Omar is playing well. Ozuna could move into Harris' role, and when Uribe is spelling Omar, Vizquel could come in late in the game and steal a base or actually get a bunt down. Ozuna could have Harris' current role. Bad backs concern me, because they usually become chronic. Keep your eye on Vizquel, Richie. Now that the pennant seems like a reality, you may see Kenny be able to convince JR and company to take on the bad contract if it means improving the IF, especially with Crede now a question mark. Could this Crede thing be a blessing in disguise? If Crede's back situation is as serious as it sounds, Vizquel would be an absolutely perfect choice. Kenny was in love with him during the off-season, I find it hard to believe he won't go after him or at least think his direction now. Actually, I think the first move made may be for Vizquel or a Vizquel-type middle infielder.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 10:15 AM) Ian, Greg Norton is gawdawful at 3B. Every one of his throws is an adventure. They need a guy who can play multiple positions and can capably play 3rd, and if Crede pretty much stays healthy, a guy who can contribute in other spots. Graffanino jumps out at everybody but I will keep banging this drum: KW said to rule out any trades within the AL Central, and further the Sox and Royals have not made a deal since 1987. I do not see this happening, but stranger things ... Cintron is a fit, Ryan Freel is the best fit. Freel adds speed, a great OBP, and can play multiple positions, including a serviceable 3B. Meaning, he can big time help in other areas should Crede remain healthy. One of those situations I'll certainly take your word on it. My memories of "Nah-ten" are mostly of the 2000 season where he had 7 errors. I still think the guy can hit MLB pitching though. As for Freel, I wonder what the Reds would be asking. If he has gotten his off-the-field situation under control, he would be a very valuable asset to a pennant-run. As you've already stated, he has excellent speed (he may actually beat Podsednik in a straight race), a very impressive OBP and is verstile--something Ozzie LOVES. ...things are going to get mightttttttttty interesting over the next week or two.

QUOTE(thedoctor @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 10:12 AM) i agree with this. plus, you'd have to think that considering his recent struggles and contract he could be had at a bargain price. Royce Ring?
