I'm a big, big, big fan of this idea. Shingo is about as unreliable a pitcher coming out of the bullpen as they come. News flash: They've figured Shingo out!!!!!!! He got by with a year of smoke-and-mirrors and now the guy can't get anything done. He stands a good chance of doing well in the NL for a year or so because they have not seen him. The AL, especially the AL Central (with whom we have many, many games against in the second half) have figured Shingo out in a major way. Say what you will about the guy, but LaTroy knows how to pitch. If he can match up with Cooper and his own battery-mate in Pierzynski, who knows how well he can preform. Hell, he may even revert back to his former Twins self. This much I promise you: his celing with the White Sox is much higher in a pennant race than Shingo. If the move is there, I consider it.

Levine said Kenny has talked to Arizona and San Francisco about moving Takatsu; called him a non-contributor and said he needs to be moved. Levine thinks Adkins will be brought up eventually. Two situations today: 1) need to re-activate El Duque today 2) Ross Gload's rehab assignment is over today.

QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:58 AM) If you like him so much why dont you marry him Anyways, Hes not that good anymore, everyone has figured him out. Time for a change. Ultimately, that's just it. He got by with a year of smoke-and-mirrors and everyone in the AL, especially the AL Central (with whom we will have many, many games in the second half) have figured him out. He won't be re-signed after this season anywho. Trade him. Get younger. Get a contributor for 05' and beyond.

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:50 AM) Simple: Large majority of hitters are right handed. A left-handed catchers throw would be obstructed more often by the batter than would a normal right-handed catchers would. Glad I could help.... Yup. That's just elementary. You can go back in history and count the successful left-handed catchers on one hand. It's little league stuff.

Figured I'd give this it's own thread. Who knows. Perhaps something he says will merit its own discussion. He'll also be taking phone calls if any of you are bored.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:48 AM) As opposed to the bandbox he currently hits in? Im sure it really doesnt matter to him right now. No. He was referring to Thome's Sox-killer status.

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:13 AM) Present company included? Sorry, I definitely laughed at this post Same here.

I'm fine with him saying the White Sox aren't the best team they've faced this season. Hell, in many respects, I agree with him. But, to say the Indians are a better team? Yikes.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:06 AM) Eh.. pay no attention to the old crabby fart. Usually don't.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:06 AM) Do you or anyone else have a link to the audio of that somewhere? I wouldn't mind hearing that again myself. No. Sorry, but I'm telling you, I haven't heard it in a month and when they played it, I nearly woke up the rest of the house. It was just so damn funny. Ozzie Montana at his best.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:04 AM) i don't have a problem with the sox making minor moves that will help during the playoff run. Key word is minor Naturally; I felt that was implied. I have no idea what he was getting at. Whatever.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 09:02 AM) 61-29 not good enough for you? You are in quite the mood this morning Mr. Yas. :rolly It's exciting. Anytime there are lingering roster moves, I get excited. Please. It's human.

Aw s***. Can an admin move this over to the Sportsbar? Thanks.

So, how ya'll doing? I've run into a spot of real bad luck lately. It seems the A Driver I choose to sit every week is the one that ends up either winning the race of placing higher than my selected driver. Anywho, it's been a fun season thus far and I just was wondering how ya'll are doing.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:46 AM) Why the D-Backs have held off and may continue to do so....; ...sending Shingo to the Bucs for Mesa? Sorry. I know I'm getting caught up in this fortune-telling garbage but some of this trade deadline stuff can be addicting. I promised myself I'd stay out of it.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:39 AM) "Philadelphia Phillies Updated:07/18/2005 Just in case the Phillies hold a fire sale before the trade deadline, the Red Sox have been scouting closer Billy Wagner, while Texas has started monitoring pitcher Vicente Padilla, according to the Bucks County (PA) Courier-Times. The newspaper said 1B Jim Thome would probably drop his no-trade clause only for a few teams, perhaps the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, St. Louis Cardinals and Cleveland Indians." Per Cbs.sportsline.com Out of those 4 teams, only Cleveland would need a 1B...Stupid reporters suck. Amen. These hack reporters are just digging for stories any way they can. I can't tolerate this conjecture being reported as fact because that is how these epic rumors get started. "Thome said he'd like to play for the White Sox" ...gimme a f'ing break.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:37 AM) Meh, this is one of those issues that isn't even worth it. People can take what they want to take from the Maggs era. I am taking 61-29 from it. And I am laughing at all of the lies and deceit that we got dealt for making Ordonez a really rich man, and even after being willing to give him a huge contract dispite his knee problem we are still the "enemy", that's fine. 5-7 years of being a Tiger just goes to show that you reap what you sow. It's like Silvy of ESPN Radio 1000 just said: It's kinda like breaking up with your ex-girlfriend. Afterward, she hits the skids, unable to find another guy, while you end up with a model. You know? You walk into the bar with her on your arm and just kinda give your ex a nod. Nothing needs to be said. I encourage Sox fans to not go overboard with this series. Show some class and celebrate the fact that we are the best team in baseball. That said, I believe most Sox fans get it and we won't hear of any problems. At the end of the day, Maggs is a member of the Tigers for 5-7 years and the White Sox have the best record in all of baseball, something I highly doubt if Ordonez and his $75M were on the roster.

Great article. Shingo could be a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks by 7:05 CT and Ross Gload's minor league rehab ends Sunday. Our Sox could have a different look by week's end and I, for one, am seriously looking forward to it.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:30 AM) Here's my plan: I'm gonna show up just boo and bash the best player we had on the team the past few years because he decided he didn't want to stay here any more. He also, gasp, took a better offer from another team, while he was hurt in order to secure his family's future. Then tomorrow when the media is calling all Sox fans, bitter and stupid etc. for booing him instead of enjoying this season, I'll whine about how the media picks on us. ...go get him SS.

QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jul 18, 2005 -> 08:21 AM) Well El Duque is starting tonight... and we still haven't heard of Jenks being sent down to make room for him. I am convinced the Sox are trying to make this happen, but I thought Shingo had a no trade clause. If it is possible, I'd like to see a deal for Scott Hairston, or Alex Cintron, or Matt Kata You're right. I didn't even think of that. We all know El Duque is making the start tonight, yet the Sox haven't made the roster move yet. You all know how much I love Jenks, but it appears the Sox have seen something in him to want to keep him on the 25 man roster down the strech. Today could be the day we part with Shingo. It just makes too much sense. The White Sox organization feel Jenks>Shingo in this year's pennant chasing bullpen.

I have to say, I just heard Ozzie's rant again for the first time in a month or so and I nearly spat my OJ all over the screen. "Heee just another Venezuelan pieeece o' sheet."
-
Plain and simple: I have confidence in Kenny Williams.
-
I think this is a move that could potentialy benefit both clubs. Shingo, after having wowed the AL with a year of smoke-and-mirrors, could probably have a similar first trip through the NL. As for the Sox, if they can get a contributing youngster or a crucial piece of a secondary trade, I have confidence Kenny is doing the right thing.

Mags Best Player I Have Ever Play With
AddisonStSox replied to Cubs Suck23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Thank you, Paulie. Now, get back in the corner and practice hitting fly-outs and double-plays with RISP.
