  1. QUOTE(jamslam @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 04:35 PM) Gload is 2 years away and Harris blows, sure let's put adkins in the pen Dude, you have GOT to figure out how to use signatures. This posting pictures in every thread thing oughta stop.
  2. ...AND we don't have to sit through Joe Morgan? Great news.
  3. For the last time, Adkins is up because he has MLB expierence in the midst of a pennant chase. You do not want two rookie arms in your bullpen when you are trying to clinch an AL pennant. Adkins is up here because he is another bullpen arm that can eat up a lot of mop-up innings and preserve the pen arms we are going to need in the post-season. It's an excellent move and I think it's going to pay dividends.
  4. Blame the market, not the GM. I liked Kenny's only move and I think he did his absolute best to improve the ballclub. Thoughts? EDIT: Someone wanna throw a T in "Reaction?" Thanks!
  5. QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 02:56 PM) when you have the best record in baseball other players arent gonna allow a trade to happen. they will put in a waiver claim and block the trade. No way. Griffey would clear waivers without a shadow of a doubt.
  6. QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 12:00 PM) Coming from someone that by the looks of your sig, has a hard on for Timo, I dont think you really have any room to talk. Willie wasnt the best player, but he always played his ass off whenever he was givin the chance. Hopefully he catches on with another team and fines a way to get some P.T That signature is tounge-in-cheek. Once again, you are out of your element. For the record, Willie was not known for "playing his ass off."
  7. I propose the good folks as Soxtalk get together and raise funds to upgrade Willie Harris' ticket to Charlotte from coach to first class. So long Willie!!!!!!!
  8. According to ESPN Radio 1000's Bruce Levine, the White Sox have traded LHP Ryan Meaux for San Deigo's Geoff Blum.
  9. Perhaps we can turn this into a very intelligent baseball discussion: Is this the last straw? Is there anyone in the world of baseball that really thinks Sammy wasn't one of the most prolific cheaters in the history of baseball? The guy corked and juiced his way to some of the most prestigious records in the history of the game. Is there anything else we have to see from Sammy to known this guy demolished some of the majesty of the game for the better part of the 90's. What is this jokers' legacy?
  10. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:16 AM) That is such crap. I've been a member on this site longer than you have. And you think I should leave because I have a high opinion of Brandon McCarthy and a realistic view of Aubrey Huff? I believe if you look that I put up a post well before you this year that the Sox should acquire Aubrey Huff. So cut the crap. Oh, so you're just completely ignorant. Got it. I'm done. You go ahead and trade Arnie Munoz for Aubrey Huff...let me know how that works out for ya.
  11. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 10:10 AM) Huff isn't even the starting 1B for Tampa Bay! The very exciting Travis Lee - he of 2 Hrs and 21 RBI, has started 62 of TBs games at that position this year. So you think he's going to push Paul Konerko to the bench? Who needs to get a grip? Leave Soxtalk. Please. Just Leave. Asking nicely. ...do us all the favor and play MVP baseball from now until 3:00 CT. It's a magical fantasy world in which you can trade for whomever you wish! It's a real Candyland...of the mind, the mind.
  12. You have no idea what Huff's trade value is do you? None. Just to put things into perspective: the Red Sox were supposedly offering their #1 prospect plus others for Huff alone. You pie-in-the-sky, MVP Baseball GMs have no idea what it would take to get a player of Huff's callibur. Just to answer your question: yes, Huff would start in the playoffs, assuming Thomas is still DL'd and such. C-Pierzynski 1B-Huff 2B-Iguchi SS-Uribe 3B-Crede OF-Rowand OF-Podsednik OF-Dye DH-Konerko/Everett
  13. DISCLAIMER: Kenny Williams will be making a move between now and 3:00 CT. Consequently, there will be a variety of different emotions/backlashes in response to said move. Before melting down, or posting some violent tyraid that no one enjoys reading, please, do yourself--and likewise, all the good folks at Soxtalk--the favor of reading and re-reading this post. Do you remember that Olivo character? That, "can't miss" "five-tool" catcher that General Manager Kenny Williams foolishly traded away to Seattle for the single most coveted starting pitcher on the market in Freddy Garcia? You know Freddy Garcia don't ya...The current 10 game winner with our belov'ed White Sox. Well, after hitting a robust .154 with 5HR and 18RBI with the Mariners in over 50 games, Olivo was sent down to AAA. There, Olivo went on to hit .233 with 3HR and 26RBI. Suprisingly, or not so suprisingly, enough, the Mariners were quick to get rid of Olivo as he was traded to the Padres for C Miguel Ojeda and a minor league pitcher. Couple that with the rumors that no one on the White Sox liked pitching to the young backstop and you may have a deal in which Kenny Williams comes out smelling like a rose. Does that Kenny Willams have a good sense of what he's doing? ...I think he might.
  14. QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 31, 2005 -> 09:42 AM) Thank goodness you aren't the GM. I wouldn't give up BMac straight up for Huff and Baez because I don't want "Blown Save" Baez at any price. Huff is a decent player, but he has no position. He's a 5-position backup. Tracey, fine. Not BMac and not Sweeney. Inaccuracies run amok in this post.
  15. If it means Thug-Life Willie Harris is off the 25 man roster...why the worries? I bring this one out from time to time:
  16. Screw the trade deadline. Stay focused on winning and let's win two consecutive games on national t.v. Go get em' Freddy!
  17. QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) addison welcome to the club! I always liked you. Hope your summer is going well. Would love to share a game with you sometime. Let me know if your schedule is easing. You got it, TQ. This time, we'd have to make it a Southside affair. They can keep their Northside "expierence." I'll drop you a line in the not too distant future!
  18. QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 08:53 PM) Well, you are taking a stance here and I respect you for it. Can't say I disagree with a lot of what you said here. Remind me to play poker with you some time though, LOL, as your poker face is not that good under pressure. I'm pulling my hair out with these names. --So and So has a 99% chance of coming to Team X --Wait, this just in, the talks of So and So going to Team X have almost come to a complete standstill --So and So may now go to Team Y --Actually, So and So will probably just remain with his team for the remainder of the season. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! That deadline can't come fast enough.
  19. After watching the brilliant minds of ESPN's Baseball Tonight, I really, really, really think Kenny is going to land both Baez and Huff. Now, I'm not even going to b**** this time; and I'll tell you why. 1) Not only will Huff be able to come in and provide some MUCH needed offense in this, our best shot at a WS in the forseeable future; but, the guy will be under contract and will allow Konerko to pack his bags this off-season. I REPEAT: Huff, if acquired, would be the everyday starting 1B for the 2006 Chicago White Sox...no need to find Konerko's replacement--he'd already be on the roster. 2) F*ck it. Trade McCarthy. Hell, if it takes McCarthy AND Chris Young, I'd have to think long and hard about it. Looking at LaMaar's past moves, it will take nothing short of McCarthy and another HIGH prospect or two to get this thing done. 3) Baez comes in and replaces Vizcaino on the depth chart. Translation: improved bullpen with another closer possibilty 4) Huff could come in and friggin dominate in USCF. Spelling both Konerko and Crede, Huff would get a TON of AB's and I think he'd become a fan favorite in no time. 5) If acquired, Huff would probably spell the end of Ross Gload with the 05' Sox...sorry Timo-haters. 6) As far as the other rumors--i.e. Burnett, Guardado--nothing doing. Seriously. It appears the best shot Kenny has to put new players on the roster would come from Tampa Bay...if it means overpaying to make a big deadline splash...go for it. ...um...I guess that's it for now.
  20. I'm so f'ing frustrated with the trade deadline. Even if Kenny wants to acquire two f'ing Devil Rays it's going to take McCarthy? Are you kidding me? A) Snag Mackowiak B ) Get another SP in here ASAP I can't take the Cuban Pitching Crisis anymore.
  21. Soxtalk would be a better place with Rob Mackowiak playing on the Southside. Bring the Oak Lawn native back home!
  22. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 11:20 AM) Huff: 3-Year worth 14.5M 2.5M in 2004 4.75M in 2005 7.5M in 2006 Thanks bud! So, you're looking at Huff at 1B in 2006 if acquired. Ok, now I'm starting to warm up to the idea. If Huff can contribute in this year's push to the WS and then remain on the roster in 2006 as the starting 1B, letting Konerko and his projected absurd contract demands walk, I'll be alright with this. But, let's not kid ourselves here with Baez. He may be a pleasant addition the pen, but he won't add any credibility or deepen the pen depth chart if Marte is included in the deal.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 30, 2005 -> 10:46 AM) Huff is a better hitter than anyone on our team. However, Baez isn't someone I'd trust. No friggin way is Huff a better hitter than anyone on our team. No friggin way. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Huff has suffered a drop in numbers this year? The year following the off-season steroid shakedown? I don't know. I would be very interested in his contract status though. This is the kind of move you would tend to see in the off-season because if we have Huff under contract for another year or so, that allows Kenny to let Konerko walk guilt-free. I couldn't care less about Baez. *Someone please post Huff's contract status
  24. Does anyone else worry that two Devil Rays are not the answer?
