QUOTE (BearSox @ May 21, 2009 -> 12:31 PM) It's funny how this is gonna turn out. If Peavy excepts the trade, I love him. If he declines it, he's going into a group of my top 5 most hated ball players. tru dat

If he is truly scared about the AL, that in itself is enough for the Sox to pull the deal. That's a confidence issue

i fully support this thread, at this rate, they will easily be 10 games below .500 by June 1st. you just can't win when almost half of your lineup consists of lillibridge, podsednik, fields, alexei(at the way he is playing),getz. i hope we can get something for thome, him being relegated to DH really hurts our ability to trade him. only a handful of teams would be interested. dye will be much easier to trade and hopefully we can get as much as we can for him. if someone wants konerko, trade him too, we have alot of corner infeild types who can fill in and grow into major leaguers.

QUOTE (Chet Lemon @ Apr 28, 2009 -> 01:23 AM) Since I purchased a ticket for last night's game, I would not be able to use them for tomorrow's 4:05 game, correct? you just need to exchange it and pay the difference for a ticket to tomorrows game -
Lastings Milledge was just sent down to AAA. While he struggled in the spring and early on, wouldn't it be worth a gamble to acquire this guy? The Nats seem down on him, but he has alot of upside. Maybe he could be the answer for CF and if not, maybe a Dye replacement in 2010. What would it take to get him?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 10:24 AM) I'm sure a lot of our big leaguers could go 4-5 in AA. You think Wise has ever gone 4-5? EVER?

QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 12:38 AM) If he does I am sure there will be a line of people ready to complain instead of praise If they complain it would be for the sub par D and not getting to a gapper that BA could of gotten to. Resulting in a loss. In all seriousness he shouldn't be on the roster, period. He should be AAA fodder at best like last season and come up to fill in at backup roles or in the event of injuries. BA should be the one given a shot due to his excellent D and his pedigree. Give him a chance to prove why he was a high draft pick. Let him breakout, let him become this years Ryan Ludwick. In time, Wise will be gone. And if he proves us all wrong and he can breakout and be a productive MAJOR LEAGUE player, not a minor league one, then great and I and everyone else here will eat crow.

Are the Sox moving Opening Day to Tuesday?

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 5, 2009 -> 03:00 PM) I almost wish MLB schedulers would just take into account that Chicago weather sucks in early April and schedule the Sox on the road until mid-April. Then maybe the Sox could get a nice homestand later in the season it really isn't that hard to avoid Chicago, New York, Boston,Cleveland,Detroit, etc. the first few weeks if they just did it right. schedule all dome and warm weather cities as the first week games. of course people would b**** still when the weather is perfect and there is no baseball. its really a no win situation. -
Dewayne Wise Named Full-time Starting CF/Leadoff hitter

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) So, who's stepped up? By default...it's Wise. Who else could it be? Who out there is THAT much better? Obviously, both Swisher and Cabrera burned their White Sox bridges, so they are out. Pierre and GMJ, as I said, are expensive and don't have fantastic OBPs either. So, Kalapse...who? And can you tell me for sure that KW didn't kick the tires to see if they were available/teams could match up in a trade? I'm disappointed too, but Pods surprised all of us, and all of baseball, by having a good year. Who's to say Wise can't do the same for a year? He's never been a full-time anything...so don't give me his past numbers. There are no options with fantastic OBP available. None at all. But you can upgrade from guys who have OBP of .275 if you avg BA and Wise and getting a guy with a .330OBP looks like a huge upgrade in my books. -

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 01:14 PM) Here's the problem with your argument...you don't know what happened behind closed doors. Perhaps Kenny did nothing and decided to see what would happen if you opened the competition up between Wise, Owens and BA. OR, he knocked on doors, picked up the phone and tried to find said lead-off hitter? It takes two to tango. Pierre is passed his prime and more expensive. GMJ is not a lead off hitter either and more expensive. Who are you willing to give up for the Dodgers or Angels to pick up 90% of said salaries? Floyd? Danks? Alexei? Because you are going to have to give up a proven or way high upside commodity for that to happen. Enough with the hate people! The market did not dictate going out and spending money this year. What this says to me is that the organization didn't develop a lead-off hitter. Or can't. But, now with the change of direction in the minors, hopefully that will change. To me, it's a lot harder to fault a GM for something they DIDN'T do, than something they DID do. Reagins and Coletti both have two CF options available at high salaries and everyone in the world knows they could never move either of them without eating huge chunks of their salary. Obtaining either of them would not cost much at all in terms of talent, you suggesting Floyd,Danks or Alexei needs to be traded to make this happen are just laughable. They are both unhappy campers and possible clubhouse cancers due to their lack of playing time. The Dodgers and Angels would both love to dump them for next to nothing. Getting back B or C level minor league talent would be fine as far as they are concerned. Throw in BA to be their new 4th or 5th OF option and I think both teams are satisfied. -

dmbjeff replied to Kalapse's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I love KW to death but this squarely falls on his shoulders. When you know your field manager, dislikes the better option in BA, and you keep around a player who only has an OBP of .254 lifetime(makes me want uribe back) and expect him to make the right move, then it's the GM's fault. Doesn't KW have control of the 25 man roster, it's Ozzie's job to do with it as he sees fit.Unfortunately, Ozzie is stubborn and hates BA. Wise should have been cut or sent to AAA, plain and simple. BA should have been given CF. If we want to say BA can't hit either, fine, just put out a higher OBP guy in CF since we know defense isn't important to the White Sox brass, see Jr Griff and Swish. Or trade for GMJ or Pierre and have 90% of their salary eaten by the Angels or Dodgers. Hell their lifetime OBP are better than Wise or BA. and each brings some other good attribute as well GMJ, gold glove caliber D and Pierre SB's. I know these options suck too, but they are better. -
Rosenthal: Melky Cabrera is on the block; Sox would be good fit
dmbjeff replied to DaTank's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No way we take on GMJ. no f'ing way. he is signed through 2011. even if we were paying 3 million of the 33 million he is still owed, thats rediculous. melky can be had for cheaper salary and if he fails you can cut bait and not owe money for 3 more years. -
me thinks he is grindy too.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 12, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) Ray Durham for Jon Adkins Ritchie for Wells/Fogg/Lowe James Baldwin for Onan Masaoka and the "wrong" Berry giving up Frank Francisco in the Carl Everett deal... the Richar/Aaron Cunningham deal Carlos Torres for Mike MacDougal yeah but how many of those deals are you wishing we could have back? those are so minor.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Mar 12, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) Great read. That's exactly the way I see the organization, in general, and KW in particular. He misses at timesbut when you make as many moves as he does that'll happen. for as much as he hits, the misses are quite miniscule. i also can't think of one deal or major signing where the sox got hosed in the end. many criticized his Chris Young for Vazquez deal and i think that's probably the largest one of them all. but seeing how vazquez then netted us Flowers and others, it seems like a wash if Flowers keeps it up. the Swisher deal can be looked at similarly. We trade for him for 3 quality minor leaguers, he fails for us and we go get some new minor leaguers with upside. i mean where else has a screwed up? who else did we trade away that we are clamoring to have back? sure carlos lee is an all-star, but that single deal allowed us to win a WS. what free agent did he let go that has us kicking ourselves? Magglio? we got dye instead who has been more productive over that period of time. maybe i'm forgetting a few deals gone wrong, feel free to post them, but KW is an awesome GM.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) Gordon Beckham is at least 10X more equipped to start at 2B in the Major Leagues than Aaron Poreda is to pitch out of the rotation in the Major Leagues. As of right now I'd say Beckham won't make the team, but if he keeps hitting like this, it is going to be very hard to keep him off it. The Sox are not the Rays and they are not afraid to start the clock on someone they believe is ready. When have Ozzie or Kenny ever put arb years ahead of the product on the field? Aside from the Erstad-Anderson "competition" in '07 and the Sox taking Massett over Wassermann last year, Kenny and Ozzie have always taken the best players in ST. That's how Widger, Logan, Ozuna, Gload, Anderson (last year), Quentin, Alexei Ramirez, etc. all made the team in the past. Gordon Beckham and Josh Kroeger are both definitely in the mix right now despite the Sox going into ST without them in their 2009 plans. I agree...I am estatic about Beckham's potential. I think he has the chance to be top 5 at either SS or 2B within a few years. Thus I see this thread and get excited, cause he is most likely ready. The reasons for holding him back are all good and well(more seasoning, arb clock, etc) but if going to camp with your best 25 is the goal, Beckham is certainly in that group.

QUOTE (Cubano @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 05:31 PM) The tittle and my first post are a question not an assertion on my part. I am asking everyone here about Gordon and 2B. All I am saying is have proof if you are going to say the following... "Now, it looks like the Sox wants to give the 2B position to Gordon. This is incredible. I learn something new with MLB every year." It's like posting a thread that says Pedro to sign 1 yr deal with ChiSox or Dye traded to Seattle and not have anything to back it up.

QUOTE (Cubano @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 05:23 PM) I confess I opened the Thread sarcastically to show how thing change and how teams manipulates things. Viciedo/Fields, Gordon situation. Honestly, I prefer Gordon than all the other failures though calling Getz that is premature. I am agaisnt Owens, Nix, etc. Well thank you for letting us know this was your opinion and not something official. When you write that the Sox are going to make Beckham the starting 2B and you learn something new everyday about MLB, it appears to be something that is real. Unfortunately, it's not real and irresponsible. If you think Beckham should be the 2B, go ahead and post that. Hell, I even agree that he should, but don't write things that are false.
-
QUOTE (Cubano @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 05:05 PM) I see Gordon getting a long look at 2B. I see him getting a lot of playing time there. We have a month to go. We shall see. so this is just speculation on your part? similar to the is poreda the new 5th SP thread i could start?

QUOTE (Cubano @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 04:46 PM) Is James Gordon Beckham the new Sox 2B despite playing in the low minors only? Is Guillen considering starting him? Has he play 2B before? Now, it looks like the Sox wants to give the 2B position to Gordon. This is incredible. I learn something new with MLB every year. Is there an article or quote to say the Sox are giving him a shot to start the season at 2B? I'd love to see him with the big club, but it just won't happen due to the arbitration clock.
