  1. per bruce levine said sox turned down offer from arizona whiched involved garland and prospect for vasquez. Said something still could happened whether dealing with garland or contreas
  2. Payroll is limited. Joe crede in arbitration means he will get money. Piersynski arbiration will be getting money. Also, jon garland in arbitration means money. Theres no room for kenny to work it out. Adding vasquez would create payroll problems. The team is set for next year. Garland last year is 2006.
  3. vasquez remaining salrary is too high to take on. Garland will get his 7 or 8 million in arbitration. If kenny had 12 million for next 2 years garland probably would accept
  4. by the way newsday is only one reporting this
  5. Newsday wrote in their possibly suggesting this could happened. Yes, kenny has been looking at him. But I highly doubt kenny lookin trade contreas espically under contract many years. Plus, whatever kenny offered to garland this offseason was turned down condisered be 3 year deal. Adding money of vasquez does not make sense unless they eat up more of the contract. Pierzynski, and crede will be getting money as well. Piersynski wants long term which means 3 year deal for him. I believe this report is bogus and false. I remember reading last few years that this news article has written that paul konerko was traded for vasquez. I just dont believe it because too much money for vasquez espically since we dont even know what garland makes. yet for 2006 season.
  6. rest money going to garland, crede, and persynski for arbitration. Plus, if kenny wants reliever or another utitlity guy he will us money to do that. Plus, look out maybe a trade for some minor leaguers for harris or timo
  7. he Sox barely fell short in their bid to land left-handed specialist Mike Myers, who agreed Thursday to a two-year offer from the Yankees. "It came down to the Sox and Yankees," Myers said. "I was impressed that the defending World Series champions considered me, but I think this move will be good for me and my family and my career." Sox general manager Ken Williams declined comment on the Pirates' trade, but the Sox have been attempting to acquire Mackowiak, 29, an Oak Lawn native, for the last two seasons. Mackowiak is projected as more than just insurance for third baseman Joe Crede's tender lower back. Mackowiak can play every position but shortstop and catcher. "It's definitely nice to go back to the team you grew up watching," said Mackowiak, who attended Games 1 and 2 of the World Series with friends at U.S. Cellular Field. "I came up with the Pittsburgh organization and got a chance to start my career. But it's nice to go to your hometown team that just won the World Series. "Watching them win was a good feeling." Mackowiak batted .272 with nine home runs and 58 RBIs in 463 at-bats with the Pirates last season. While appearing in 142 games, he played in 65at third and 63 in the outfield. Mackowiak hit a game-winning grand slam against the Cubs on May 28, 2004, in the first game of a doubleheader at PNC Park and then hit a game-tying home run in the ninth of the second game. Mackowiak's heroics came less than 12 hours after his wife, Jennifer, gave birth to the couple's first child. Mackowiak has been aware of trade rumors for the last two seasons. "When you hear those kind of things, you never know if it will happen," Mackowiak said. "It's a bittersweet thing because I made a lot of friends in the Pittsburgh organization. But I'm going to a good situation." Mackowiak said Williams told him he would try to get him as many at-bats as possible. Mackowiak made $1.59 million in salary and bonuses and is arbitration eligible. Marte will make $2.25 million in 2006. The trade closes Marte's troubled stint with the Sox. His hard-throwing fastball was tempered by inconsistency after the Sox gave him a three-year contract following the 2003 season. Marte had a 5.49 home ERA and had a 5.03 mark in the second half. He was sent home for five days following a dispute with manager Ozzie Guillen on Sept. 11, and Williams recently revealed Marte sought a trade. Carrying 12 pitchers could be a necessity because four Sox starting pitchers—Mark Buehrle, Freddy Garcia, Jon Garland and Jose Contreras—threw at least 236 innings last season. "The key for us is going to be whether [reliever] Dustin Hermanson is healthy or not," Williams said. "His off-season is going well with his rehabilitation and strength exercises [for his back]. We're very optimistic. We might be versatile enough to where we can carry 12 [pitchers]."
  8. Williams said it was possible a deal could be made for a utility infielder before the Winter Meetings came to a close Thursday. He also expressed comfort in going into Spring Training with the exact same players already on his roster. "We aren't desperate to do something sooner rather than later on that front," Williams said. "We can be patient, but if the right thing pops up, then we will do it." Jose Vizcaino's name was mentioned to Williams, with the free agent not offered arbitration by Houston. The switch-hitting infielder would fit the White Sox need, but Williams did not want to go down the long list of available players who could help his team. Williams did express interest, though, in a certain Hall of Fame-bound pitcher, named Roger Clemens, who also was not offered arbitration by Houston. "Sure. Who wouldn't?" said Williams, when asked if he had any interest in Clemens. "Nine more wins to 350 wins, who wouldn't? "No, we can't afford him, unless Roger wants to pitch for free this year," Williams added with a wry smile.
  9. Getting a muller or randa is very vital to this season and the future. If you look at it this way Joe Crede's back is not problem. You all saw what he did when he came back from dl and if he was suffering then no one was telling us about problem. I believe that since his agent is Scot Boras that price of a Joe Crede stock will be sky rocket come 2006 free agency. Muller contract will be more than 1 yr and that will be our future 3b.
  10. White Sox free-agent slugger Paul Konerko has spoken a couple of times by phone to his high school coach, Jerry Dawson, since the World Series ended. "I know that he loves Chicago and he loves the people," Dawson said Monday from Scottsdale, Ariz. "All things being equal, or close to equal, I know that he would prefer to stay in Chicago." Dawson said he has not specifically brought up the topic of Konerko's free-agent options—"I would never do that." But he knows "Paul will make a smart decision. He is not your normal athlete." Konerko's former high school hitting coach, Mark Miller, and Dawson sat in the left-field bleachers at U.S. Cellular Field when Konerko blasted a grand slam against Houston in Game 2 of the World Series. "We were about 30 feet away from where the ball landed. It was an awesome experience," Dawson said. "I got goose bumps when I heard the fans chanting Paul's name."

  13. I believe Gammons put down the wrong team and yes he is known to do that
  14. I always come here with information on whats going on in the offseason and I broke the Tadahito Iguchi signing last offseason. But heres a site that gives information at the end of player profile for Pablo Ozuna with a 2 year contract being paid $600,000 http://fszcentral.com/athfbl/p172.html
  15. White Sox White sox White sox Go Go Go White Sox Lets go go go white sox Chicago is proud of you. Time for whining to stop watch baseball and be a fan. Every year will come around with baseball happening. You will cheer, cry, laugh, and get mad all at the same time. This sport will always be here and every offseason you will be wondering what will whitesox do in the offseason. Every season you wonder hjow the season will turn out will we go from last to first. Will this be the year that whitesox make it all the way. I live watch my favorite team everyday and everyone should encourage our players who put the team where they are right now. Cheer them on and hope for a good finish. Last but least go go go go whitesox
  16. Its time to rally around the troops. We supported them all season and now is not the time to panic. We werent even suppost to be this good. 21. false alarm the source is wrong
  22. Josh Beckett, the 2003 World Series hero, won't come off the 15-day disabled list until at least July 22 because of a left oblique strain. part 2 Burnett, who threw a no-hitter in 2001 but is two years removed from reconstructive right elbow surgery, was tagged for six runs in five innings Thursday in a loss at Philadelphia. Contreras, meanwhile, looked dominant with a split-finger fastball to complement his fastball. "If [Contreras] throws the way he throws the last two [times], watch out," Guillen said. "He has a chance to be outstanding. "But he's also got a chance to be very bad. I was very impressed." Left-handed reliever Damaso Marte was just as dominating as he struck out all three batters he faced in his first outing since coming off the disabled list. "Everyone knows that pitching is what we're built around," catcher A.J. Pierzynski said. "Defense, and scoring just enough runs."
  23. Alot of teams looking at contreas and ya his value from last night game just went up CLEVELAND -- If Jose Contreras can pitch as well as he did Thursday night, the White Sox's need for another starting pitcher might not be so urgent. Contreras, pitching in front of representatives from at least six teams that included Florida, hurled seven shutout innings as the Sox held on for a 1-0 victory at Cleveland. The Sox victory mirrored their formula for much of the first half—strong starting pitching and enough offense—as they snapped a three-game losing streak while extending their lead in the American League Central to 10 games over Minnesota. The Sox's lone run came in the first when Frank Thomas' drive grazed the glove of left fielder Coco Crisp for a double that scored Tadahito Iguchi. The Sox (58-29) improved their major-league-best road record to 28-14 while beating the Indians in a one-run game for the sixth time this season. The biggest lift came from Contreras, whose season has been marked by inconsistency. Contreras (5-5) backed up his vow last week that he is a better second-half pitcher. "The rumors came in the first half because the numbers that were there were not numbers that pitchers have on a winning team," said Contreras, who lowered his ERA to 3.99 while winning consecutive starts for the first time this season. "I wasn't throwing like I wanted." But Contreras has allowed only two earned runs in his last 13 innings. He admitted he benefited from throwing on seven days' rest while improving his career record to 5-1 with a 2.47 ERA on six or more days of rest. He also eased some concerns about the quality of the Sox pitching staff with scouts watching closely. "Right now, we don't have anything in mind," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "We have every [scout] out there. "You ask the rest of baseball what they'd like to have, it's the same. You talk about [starters Jason Schmidt, A.J. Burnett and Ted Lilly], a lot of people need those guys." Guillen had a meeting after a mandatory one-hour workout five hours before Thursday's game to reinforce his faith in his team. "I'm happy with what we have," Guillen said. "If we need some help, I bet you [general manager] Kenny Williams will get some help." For the second time in as many Sox series, a Florida representative was in attendance. This time it was Dan Jennings, the Marlins' vice president of player personnel. The two sides, however, gave themselves flexibility on their 40-man rosters with the July 31 non-waiver trading deadline approaching. Left-handed reliever Kevin Walker was outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, three days after the Sox optioned him. The Marlins, meanwhile, designated veteran left-hander Al Leiter for assignment. Florida's Burnett also falls under scrutiny, although the Marlins have a shortage of starting pitching.
