  1. are we seriously sticking with the jones/kotsay dh platoon. i really didnt think this was going to happen but as spring training approaches im beginning to fear its becoming more of a reality. just sign thome! he would probably play for peanuts to come back to chicago!
  2. my best friend is a die-hard cards fan so i have seen a lot of their games and i genuinely like their team. great manager, great fans, the best player in baseball and they are the cubs biggest rival. whats not to like?
  3. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jan 8, 2010 -> 09:45 AM) I will never understand the hate that some Sox fans held towards Pods. i agree. i wish pods the best (except when he plays us). he had a great 2005 and was the catalyst to our world series team. show the man some love!
  4. if we are considering thome why dont we consider brigning back dye? i know he wants to play the field but it seems his options are limited at best. i know he had a bad second half, but i think if he was strictly dh his body wouldnt take the beating it did last year.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 5, 2010 -> 10:14 AM) you know what's also a rally killer? Having no one on base. do you know what sparks rallies? home runs! i will take cust.
  6. QUOTE (DABearSoX @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) Make your list I have 11. they all deserve to be on there. Joe Borchard Danny Wright David Wells (just for being a complete douche) Dewayne Wise Royce Clayton Billy Koch Scott Schoeneweis Ben Davis Andrew Sisco Andy Gonzalez Jerry Owens honorable mention to brent lillibridge. not really enough body of work but i already know i hate him.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 16, 2009 -> 10:19 AM) Frank Thomas Speaking of that, i know a year or so ago the idea was thrown about that the sox should sign Frank for a game or so and let him retire a White Sox. I think that would be a great gesture for opening day this year.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 10:58 AM) Yeah, so really the shopping list left is a power bat, and maybe another reliever. i really do hope we get another bat for the dh. i dont want to go into the season rotaing jones, kotsay, etc.
  9. now get me nick johnson and i will be a very happy sox fan.
  10. QUOTE (Felix @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 10:12 AM) They had virtually the same SB% last year and the same for their career. he doesnt get picked off 3rd base though.
  11. QUOTE (Linnwood @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 10:00 AM) Any idea who the Minor League Pitchers are? As long as its not Hudson i think i like the deal.
  12. QUOTE (joeynach @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 06:17 PM) MLBTraderumors.com is reporting that Matsui has officially agreed to a 1 year $6.5M deal with Angels. So basically we can all just forget about him. well... that sucks. im not panicking but we really need another impact bat.
  13. doom and gloom seems to be coming earlier and earlier each off-season.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:51 PM) The Phils have been mentioned as one of the teams that could use an upgrade at closer. They have Lidge, who has great stuff and a proven track record of successes and failures. He has a great arm and if the Sox are able to get a solid prospect and cash from the Phils, it could turn into a solid deal. What does everyone else think? And I note that the Phils would have to agree to send a s***-ton of money the Sox way, since Lidge makes like 11.5M a year through 2011. Or lets hypothetically say the Sox dealt Jenks and Linebrink to the Phils for Lidge, cash, and a good prospect. Sox get a few more million that can go to signing a DH, get a good prospect, and still have a guy that has all of the stuff to be a great closer. little too risky for me. if lidge falls flat on his face (Which has a high probability) the sox pen would all of a sudden become quite thin.
  15. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) personally, I'm just in love with the Vladdy of yore and part of me wants to believe that he's still got some of that. So I agree with you. However, most (all) of that is gut instinct and the reason I suck at fantasy baseball, let alone real-life GMing. i would rather get matsui, but if we got vlad, i wouldnt be upset. i think he still has a little left in the tank to be a productive hitter.
  16. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 04:32 PM) Jenks has all his health issues, Linebrink is Linebrink, Randy Williams has never done anything worth mentioning, Pena is still a highly-talented work-in-progress, Putz is coming off surgery. The only virtual certainty is Thornton. Yes, we have some nice bench players. The problem is we do not have any starters for RF or DH. We've blown our wad on bench players and reclamation projects. You can even make the argument that we have actually downgraded from our already pathetic 2009 offense. The only way that wouldn't be the case would be if both Quentin and Rios perform up to their expectations and Paulie doesn't regress. Who is going to replace the 1st half Dye had, or Thome, or Pods? This offense as currently constructed is terrible. Jones doesn't have hardly any potential anymore. He has slowed down a ton. It's not like if the 2009 Texas version of Andruw Jones got regular playing time he would have been good again. The guy needs to come up with a time machine. The time of year really doesn't matter if we're out of money. We're stuck with Paulie and Linebrink, and Kenny has already said Jenks will be the closer. Where are we going to come up with the funds to sign anyone good? We've blown our resources on luxuries. That's why the offseason blows. I realize this will be very unpopular among the "it's only December!!!" crowd but I don't care. So far, Kenny's offseason grade should be no better than a D. Blown our wad? Of the guys we have signed this off-season only Putz is making any kind of money.
  17. Rowand over Crede? No way. And Jose should be higher up in my opinion.
  18. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 01:21 PM) Source: Angels want Matsui to DH The Los Angeles Angels are in serious discussions with Hideki Matsui about supplanting Vladimir Guerrero as their designated hitter, a source familiar with the team's thinking told ESPN.com. well crap. he is by far the best option to us right now IMO.
  19. no thanks. the sox need power in lf. if we are going to get a guy like that i would rather get the younger gardner with more upside.
  20. Well its Cowley and MLB Trade rumors so take it for what its worth: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/12/whit...-putz.htmlWhite Sox Close On J.J. Putz?
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 01:43 PM) Crisp won't get more than $2 million. Pods is currently asking for a lot more than that and is trying to get it over multiple years. The Sox won't do that and don't want to wait. I see the club signing Crisp and if they can land Matsui also, than Kenny will spend the rest of his off-season quietly looking to find a way to get a young outfielder into Chicago with the potential to be a leadoff hitter. It might not happen, but If he lands his DH and gets at least an insurance option for the top of the order (Crisp), he won't have to do much else and should be able to win the division or at least be in position to win the division come the trade-deadline. Ideally you get one of these two guys as a stop gap and Mitchell/Danks will be ready to fill that role in a year or two.
  22. assuming the money is the same i would rather have pods back.
  23. Had a pretty damn good under the radar last year. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4727757
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) Now is the time to go after Matsui. The Angels are more focused on negotiations with Lackey and Bay and the Yankees only see Matsui as a back-up option (Damon is there plan A). Go hard, go fast, and get er done. yup i agree. and after that, as much as it pains me to say it, i think the sox lay back and take pods or coco for a cheap deal.
  25. I dont see what the problem is? Its not like we are signing this guy to a 7 year deal or anything. This would be a 1 or 2 year deal if anything for a productive hitter at a fairly good price. I'm not sure i see a down side.
