  1. From everything I hear, Toronto will be going with Aldridge. All their fans think so and Bosh is LA's mentor and has been asking the Raps to draft him since the end of the year. So it comes down to either Thomas or Bargnani. I personally would take Bargnani, but I guess Thomas would be a nice selection. Thing is, if we get Thomas, I would just trade Tyson for an expiring contract because he would be rendered useless.
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:42 AM) See the thing is when he's going out there every 5th day and allowing 4 to 8 runs eventually the offense is not going to come through for him. You can't just continue to go with the guy and his s*** pitching just because the offense is picking him up every damn time, he's really not putting the team in a very good position to win and once the offense starts slumping he's going to be racking up major losses. What do you suggest? Go out and get another Ace and pay heavily for him even though the guy probably won't even start in the playoffs? I'd like to hear your plan of action. Jon at least treads water. That's all I ask. Keep us in ballgames.
  3. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:02 AM) Being perfectly serious, I think a guy like Wood would be a perfect project for Cooper, IF he were willing to listen AND to implement the changes. I think somewhere in time someone has told Wood how to fix his angles and it is obvious he hasn't listened. But I don't think the Sox would look at the guy with as injury prone and as expensive as he is and will be. When it comes to pitching, the Sox definately look for the guys who take the ball every 5 days. He's a FA at the end of the year.
  4. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) Again, you assume this based on WHAT? That his pitching coach is Don Cooper.
  5. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:26 AM) I don't like draft express because they make everyone sound like the second coming of some great player. You'd think that everyone is a future All-star reading their profiles. They also seem to think that everyone can play other positions when they really can't. Eventually he'll be a power forward, but that's not really the case right now. Even draft express says that he doesn't have an NBA position right now, could struggle defensively, and that he's never going to be a real banger in the post. If he can't defend in the post, then that's definitely an issue down the line. He could defend in the post as much as Tyson if not more. The guy is unreal when it comes to blocks and when he's not shooting well, he finds ways to get to the line. 2nd coming of Dirk is appropriate.
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:26 AM) Garland is not getting payed 5th starter money and does not have the same expectations on him as a 5th starter. Just because we've had s***ty pitching in the past doesn't mean Garland can continue to get by with s*** performance after s*** performance but never lose because this team is capable of going out and putting up 6 runs for him. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I don't care how we win, as long as we win. Period.
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:13 AM) I'm sorry this post confuses me, did you just say that the best way to evaluate Garland is by his record? So because the team is scoring runs for him when he goes out there and gives up 6 runs it's ok? Whatever you say. No, I'm saying that while with all the b****ing and complaining, he still has a winning record and has at least 3 good games. I'll take that over going through the Jason Grilli's of the world. I admitted that his BAA is pretty bad. His WHIP is mediocre, but there are pitchers that have a lot worse ones this his.
  8. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:08 AM) McCarthy's WHIP is about .25 points lower than Garland... Which accounts for his ERA being a bit lower.
  9. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ May 23, 2006 -> 09:50 AM) The other problem is his really a tweener right now as well. He's not strong enough and doesn't have the post game to be a PF, and his quickness and ball-handling skills are probably an issue at SF. Wherever he is, he's going to be a defensive liability for at least 2 years. Plus ESPN's profile compares him to Troy Murphy right now, which is a little scary. While he puts up good numbers, Troy is a suspect defender with a low shooting percentage that really isn't as strong a rebounder as his numbers would indicate. I rather go off of draftexpress and nbadraft.net. ESPN just puts together some mumbo jumbo. I don't think he'll be a tweener at all either. He'll definately be a PF in the league.
  10. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ May 23, 2006 -> 09:56 AM) 3-2, 6.12 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, .325 BAA. This is what I'm describing as utter crap. WTF would you call it? Last year has nothing to do with it. Beating three AAAA teams isn't something to laud him for.... You said his WHIP is worse than Marte's. Well that would be because Marte's a reliever and Garland's a starter. Usually, if your name isn't Johan, your WHIP is going to be worse than a reliever. BAA isn't good. ERA also isn't the best stat. 3-2 shows me that he's still winning. I'm not concerned. As long as he keeps us in games against the crappy teams, that's all I ask for. I'll let Contreras do the dominating.
  11. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 23, 2006 -> 09:54 AM) Apparently these people forget how it was 2 years ago. Rauch, Munoz, Grilli, etc etc etc. I guess so. I swear, we have the 2nd best record in baseball and people are ready to jump off a cliff after a game we won. I don't get it.
  12. QUOTE(Finkelstein @ May 23, 2006 -> 09:52 AM) I really think that Jon pitches better when he has AJ behind the plate. I don't know if it is a confidence thing or not, but I hope that Ozzie keeps AJ with him as much as possible. I do too, but I guess Ozzie for some reason loves Widger behind there when Garland is throwing.
  13. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ May 23, 2006 -> 09:49 AM) Nitetrain, just because we have 4 other good starters does not mean we need to accept utter crap from our fifth starter, especially when we have another guy capable of starting in the bullpen and Garland has only put up good numbers in ONE year. I wouldn't call it utter crap. Is he near his performances from last year? No, not at this moment, but if you look around the league, he's doing just about average. I don't see a problem with that.

YOU POKE IT, YOU OWN IT!
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 23, 2006 -> 08:37 AM) So, if the Knicks suck it up again next year, we get their first round pick again? Any chance to get Oden would be a blessing. Even if we don't get Oden, next year's draft is supposed to be loaded. Especially towards the top.
  16. I think you're overreacting. 1 pitcher out of 5. Tell me who else in the league comes close to our pitching. The Tigers? They have guys who are known to fade away in the 2nd half. As long as he keeps us in the game, I don't give a crap. He gave up 4 runs last night. There's tons of teams who would take 4 runs out of their #5 starter anyday. Hell, they'd take that out of their #3 in the case of the Yankees and Bosox. I'm not worried about Garland. He's just got to mix in his Sinker in more with his 2seamer. I'm sure Coop and Ozzie will tell him that or have told him that after the game. Once he does, he'll be very good once again.

Where could I get my FICO #?
  20. THEYRE GIVIN HIM A STATUE!
  21. Personally, I'd just like them to use McCarthy more in the bullpen if they're going to have him in there. Like yesterday, you had him warming up, f***ing use him as the bridge to Jenks.
  22. Today's a reason why I never bet on the road team for the 7th Game. They almost always lose. And I knew Cleveland would get blown out. I even put money down on it.
  23. I'll be cheering him and giving him a standing O on Tuesday.
  24. Did you expect Jenks to go 50 for 50 in save opps? I certainly didn't. That's unheard of. Vazquez being left in too long, meh, that's questionable stuff Ozzie has always done. Uribe "f***ing up" was the result of Cedeno sliding into 2B the right way. I blame today's loss(if I had to) more on Count being taken out and Count being taken out for Cotts at that.
