Sox @ Indians (May 29 @ 12:05 p.m. CT)

Starting lineups today? Awwwww snap. -
QUOTE(Felix @ May 28, 2006 -> 07:29 PM) You don't agree? Jenks has had a history of arm issues, and along with his weight and velocity, he's not the safest bet to stay healthy for 10 years etc. I'm going to disagree with you. BMac is definately not our best reliever. In fact he sucks in that role so far.
-
He should be used like Haren was used with St Louis when they were grooming him to be a SP. Use him in any instance which there is a tie and a reliever needs to be brought in. If you're ahead, bring him in anytime before the 8th. If you need a spot starter, throw him in there.

QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ May 28, 2006 -> 10:10 AM) Would it really? Remember when Billy "I'm a baseball god" Beane traded 2 of the 'Big 3'? He didn't get that much for them, and if anyone was going to try and fleece someone, it would be him. It depends on whether or not Angelos would prefer to save money. One of our starters and 2 top minor leaguers could do it. O's pitching is terrible, anyone we have would be an upgrade. Plus, the 6-10 million a year he would save he can spend on other FA's next year, if he wants. Of course, he may value Tejada even more than that, in which case your scenerio would be correct. But until someone makes an offer, I guess we will not know. I would be fine with Anderson's production if it wasn't that Uribe also sucks. We can hide one poor bat for defense, harder to hide 2. I don't remember what Hudson brought to the A's, but Daric Barton, Danny Haren and Kiki Calero isn't much? Since when?
-
Ken Griffey Jr, GIT R DONE! Seriously though, BA is not the problem IMO. As long as he keeps playing defense and actually is paying attention to the game, he'll be fine. Uribe on the other hand seems like he has his head up his ass more than half the time.
-
Def happy birthday to all 3!
-
I like Ozzie popping off too. At least someone seems motivated. It seems like this team at times thinks it'll just turn it on. Ozzie just simply told them the business. Uribe needs to go back to Frank and relearn the leg kick because I must agree, he lucks godawful at the plate.

QUOTE(Friend of Nordhagen @ May 28, 2006 -> 01:05 AM) Gentlemen, gentlemen . . . So much hatred of these fine young men who patrolling centerfield throughout baseball. Kalapse, my man, I've said it: if Anderson hits .210, he's my guy. And I'm willing to give him more time, too. But by the middle of July, if our friend from Tucson is hitting .165, he cannot -- and will not -- be this team's centerfielder. I love the guy, okay? I think he's going to be a good player. But that's not going to cut it. Not for me and not for Kenneth Williams. So, here we go. Who's your centerfielder for our 2006 World Series team? Name a guy. If you're all down on Erstad -- and believe me, I understand why -- please note that he won't be making $9 million for the Chicago American League ball club. He'll make 1/3 of that, at most -- because he'll be here for about 2 months. And that's assuming that we pay all of his salary. But, please, please, please, don't give me this garbage about how these aren't the guys -- because if it's not Brian Anderson, whoever it is is not on this roster right now. And he's not in Charlotte, North Carolina either. Well Erstad is brutal from what I heard. Defensively, he's no more than mediocre after all those injury bugs in CF. Offensively, he's below average from what Angel fans are saying as well. I look at his numbers and they scream, "blah". I don't mind finding an outside answer, but Erstad and Finley definately ain't it.
-
It's completely stupid to give up on him already. Shea is currently 7th in batting avg in the AL last time I check at around .340. I can't believe people are pinning him as the guy who did wrong. If people are looking for someone who did what Hermanson did last year and have 20 scoreless innings, they could keep hoping.
-
I'm sure this has been said, but Anderson's defense is toooo vital to the team, especially the pitcher's. As long as he stays above .150, keep him on at least as a defensive replacement. Mack gets horrible jumps and runs bad routes on balls and no one else on this team is a legit ML CF.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 27, 2006 -> 06:49 PM) Like I said in the game thread, this has been happening since last year. Count got f***ed over a lot last year. I guess I'll use this thread to reiterate the point about Uribe since it will only piss people off to start a new one. Juan Uribe is absolute horses***. He NEEDS to be benched for about a week because he's such a f***ing idiot. He sucks, and at least BA can get a walk. He needs to know that he isn't SS-for-life. And if you're going to say something about him having 2 hits today, remember that the one hit came because Mack saved his ass by getting to 2nd in time to break up the force out. This is true about him getting hosed last year as well.
-
I agree. That sucks alooooootttttttttt for Count. He's dominating and his offense can't pick him up.
-
QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 27, 2006 -> 06:33 PM) Or for Mack. TRADE THOME!

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 27, 2006 -> 06:27 PM) On the bright side, Toronto is down to 2 pitchers left who aren't starters, if I'm counting right. And we're closing in on having Cliff Politte pitch

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ May 27, 2006 -> 02:37 PM) One constant last season was Ozzie's repeated assertion that it's easy to stick together when you're playing good - but let's see how we play when things get rough. Things got rough in August and September but the Sox hung together and gutted it out; the clubhouse never stopped pulling for each other. The kitties will hit a slump - it's inevitable in a 162 game season. Then we'll know what they're made of. Yes, like we did last year. I know someone said, "Oh well, they're pitching way better than their career numbers", but same thing with our staff for the most part. Even if it is a fluke year, that year is now for them. I think they're a legit threat. Don't confuse this with me saying, "Oh well, we're screwed." I'm just saying they're playing determined like we did last year.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 24, 2006 -> 03:34 PM) Because the only way we'd do that is giving up both picks, Tyson, and at least 1 other guy to get KG so the contracts will match, and first of all we don't want to give up the 2 picks and maybe somebody like Deng to get KG, and plus NOBODY wants Tyson's horrid contract. I hope I'm wrong and that happens though. Bulls are around 19 million under the cap. We don't need to throw in players to match salaries. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 24, 2006 -> 12:57 PM) DO you think that would render Tyson useless, or just his horrible game? BOTH Bryan Colangelo held a press conference an hour ago though and now it seems he wants Bargnani and will take him no matter what. 90% of the press conference he talked about him I heard and Raptor fans are kind of saddened because they wanted LA. Bosh will be playing the 5 and it seems like BC is trying to make an exact replica of the PHX Suns offense. -

QUOTE(spiderman @ May 24, 2006 -> 12:22 PM) Aren't Tyrus Thomas and Tyson Chandler similar big men ? Chandler's taller, but I don't see either as offensive weapons, moreso rebounding, and athleticism with the shot blocking, long arms ? I realize that Thomas just breathing makes him a better offensive player (hopefully he can also catch a basketball, unllike Chandler, who bobbles everything), but does this guy have the ability to become a good offensive option ? Personally I don't think so, but alot of people will disagree with you. I really don't want Thomas, but from the looks of it, it's either him or Bargnani. -

From everything I hear, Toronto will be going with Aldridge. All their fans think so and Bosh is LA's mentor and has been asking the Raps to draft him since the end of the year. So it comes down to either Thomas or Bargnani. I personally would take Bargnani, but I guess Thomas would be a nice selection. Thing is, if we get Thomas, I would just trade Tyson for an expiring contract because he would be rendered useless. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:42 AM) See the thing is when he's going out there every 5th day and allowing 4 to 8 runs eventually the offense is not going to come through for him. You can't just continue to go with the guy and his s*** pitching just because the offense is picking him up every damn time, he's really not putting the team in a very good position to win and once the offense starts slumping he's going to be racking up major losses. What do you suggest? Go out and get another Ace and pay heavily for him even though the guy probably won't even start in the playoffs? I'd like to hear your plan of action. Jon at least treads water. That's all I ask. Keep us in ballgames.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:02 AM) Being perfectly serious, I think a guy like Wood would be a perfect project for Cooper, IF he were willing to listen AND to implement the changes. I think somewhere in time someone has told Wood how to fix his angles and it is obvious he hasn't listened. But I don't think the Sox would look at the guy with as injury prone and as expensive as he is and will be. When it comes to pitching, the Sox definately look for the guys who take the ball every 5 days. He's a FA at the end of the year.

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:36 AM) Again, you assume this based on WHAT? That his pitching coach is Don Cooper.

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:26 AM) I don't like draft express because they make everyone sound like the second coming of some great player. You'd think that everyone is a future All-star reading their profiles. They also seem to think that everyone can play other positions when they really can't. Eventually he'll be a power forward, but that's not really the case right now. Even draft express says that he doesn't have an NBA position right now, could struggle defensively, and that he's never going to be a real banger in the post. If he can't defend in the post, then that's definitely an issue down the line. He could defend in the post as much as Tyson if not more. The guy is unreal when it comes to blocks and when he's not shooting well, he finds ways to get to the line. 2nd coming of Dirk is appropriate. -
QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 23, 2006 -> 10:26 AM) Garland is not getting payed 5th starter money and does not have the same expectations on him as a 5th starter. Just because we've had s***ty pitching in the past doesn't mean Garland can continue to get by with s*** performance after s*** performance but never lose because this team is capable of going out and putting up 6 runs for him. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I don't care how we win, as long as we win. Period.
