QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 03:05 PM) Miguel Olivo's arm rated on par with Pudge's. He also had amazing speed for a catcher and some good power. In terms of potential at the time, Olivo was a top ten catching prospect in the minors. Reeves and Olivo are not comparable. 1)Arm was overrated. He called a ton of pitchouts to get the basestealer out. 2)I haven't heard much about Reeves' speed, is he slow? 3)13 HR's is good for a catcher. How many catchers currently hit 20HR's in the league? I will venture to say it's less than half. 4)Top ten catching prospect, meh it's debatable.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) Reading between the lines, it sounds to me like they are saying they need to rebuild his motion or he is an injury risk. Meh. I know what it's saying, and I stated my stance on him. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) He wasn't one of the top 100 prospects in Texas, and that's not because he was an unknown. I also just learned that the Cubs are expected to try and make Jeff S. choose between baseball and football with a monster signing bonus. He also didn't play D-1 Baseball for more than a year. Plus he has a great arm. At the very least, he becomes another Olivo who we trade for another Freddy Garcia.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 02:51 PM) Awful last pick by the Sox. I don't think Tyler Reeves is bad. Give me a guy who could hit .300 with 13 hr's anyday. He sounds like an AJ Pierzynski clone. Anyone know how good of a game he calls?
-
I'll take the risk over a Lance Broadway clone. Add to the fact that scouts think he could add more velocity to his fastball as he fills out, I would've been much happier with that pick.

NBA Draft Lottery Thread

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 12:18 PM) I like Guillermo's athletic ability, but I see him as a tweener. I can't see him playing PG successfully in the NBA. Rajon Rondo would be a good fit for the Suns with his athletic ability and profinity for the transition game, which he never could get into at UK. Another possible good fit to me would be Will Blalock, and they could even trade down to the very bottom of the 1st and likely pick him up, instead of having to trade up for someone like Rondo. Rondo can't shoot, therefore off the bat making him a bat fit for the Suns. -
Eddie is having problems. Eyre was talking sh*t about the Sox despite everyone thinking it was Howry, so we won't trade for him. Then again, I guess people got mad when Howry told it how it was when we still weren't filling up the seats while being in first place last year. TRADE FOR KELLY WUNSCH!

I was actually all for getting him in the offseason too, but meh. I don't know if I'd give up too much for him though.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 02:22 PM) Sounds kinda Barry Zito-ish? Sounds more like a lefty specialist to me if anything.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 02:19 PM) Well, the Cubs tend to draft a TON of power pitchers. Funny -- the intelligent Cub fans who I see want it the other way around, more guys who know how to pitch, rather than guys who can hit 99. We are talking about Cubs and injuries. Think about that for a second. They go hand in hand. I'm not saying the Coop and Herm would make everyone great and make sure they never miss a game in their careers, but they would do alot better with their guys than they're doing currently.

I like him better than our 1st round pick, but meh. I wish we nabbed a position player like a C. -
White Sox Select Texas Righty Kyle McCulloch

Personally, this guy does nothing for me. -
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 02:11 PM) I don't really blame the Sox for drafting finesse guys. Since when have we actually been able to develop power arms? The only power pitcher we've had in the last 5 years was a cast-off from the Angels organization (and now Thornton, who's from the Seattle organization). The way I think of it, our best pitchers are power pitchers. Don actually is great with power pitchers from what I've seen. There's also more leeway because if a finesee pitcher isn't pitching perfect, he'll give up a lot of hits in a hurry. Even Buehrle does it these days. I'm sick of the finesee pitcher crap. And no, a Miami prospect who barely gets to the mid 90's is not what I consider a power pitcher. We need to draft power pitchers at least some, not all so we won't have to keep trading for them.

I'd trade BMac and Uribe for him straight up if Baltimore did it with them possibly paying some salary.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 6, 2006 -> 02:00 PM) Yeah another DH for the team. Last year sure, this year it doesnt make sense. Over/Under on the number of games it takes to get him injuried in CF for the sox. None because sadly, he isn't coming here. Also, I don't think he's going to get injured like he has in his first couple of years in Cincy. He's weight trained and all and he looks a whole lot healthier(starting last year). Plus we have Herm Schneider who is one of the best in the business in terms of health fitness(don't know why he's so fat though ). Griffey would also allow Anderson to still get time in. Also, I think Cincy would be happy taking his salary off the books and receiving prospects. Remember, they weren't doing bad without him at all. I think we would have to give up a bit for him though.
-
Why didn't we take a power pitcher with our first pick? I'm sick of safe picks. Maybe there wasn't a shot at one, but does anyone know why? I'm sure there's more knowledgeable guys than me on this board.

I just finally want a hard-throwing pitcher for once.

NBA Finals Poll: Heat vs. Mavs

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 3, 2006 -> 10:54 PM) It will be an interesting finals - Dallas can't stop Shaq, Miami can't stop Dirk. I think Josh Howard and D-Wade will offset, and then that leaves it to the other role players - which I think Dallas is just a little deeper, and has home court. Dallas in 7. Wade & Howard offset? Did you just equate Howard to Wade?? -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 4, 2006 -> 01:03 PM) Do you honestly believe McCarthy would not be able to put up a 6 ERA in a starting role for the rest of the season? I don't think there's any way he'd even have one in the 5's. Garland is improving, Bmac has shown me nothing thus far. -

*pukes* I'm sick of the Rowand manlove and the trade proposals for him. Plus, I don't think anyone wants to have those 5th starter problems back up again that we had prior to last year. McCarthy stinks this year and I think switching him back into the rotation will hurt us more than Garland has. Stick with the team, and see what we need in 2 more weeks. The way I look at it, we need more and more bullpen help. -
Thomas and Hriniak were the ones who taught him the leg kick. Another reason why Greg Walker should be canned and Hriniak should be brought back. Walker sucks.

Sox @ Indians (May 29 @ 12:05 p.m. CT)

What happened to Javy? I didn't get to see most of the game. -
If left with Frank and Hriniak. I remember hearing that Frank came to a game late in the season last year and worked specifically with Uribe and a couple of other guys. Of course, Greg Walker probably doesn't notice that.
