CHOKE
If the Sox lose the division and no one is there to see it, did it really happen?

Why Do I Care About Attendance?
There really is no reason to complain next year about a lowered payroll. The stadium looks empty and it's worse because it looks like 500 fans are there and the team is in the last week of a division race and are currently tied.

Why I am optimistic on September 24
QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Sep 24, 2012 -> 06:25 PM) We are basically in a 7 game series with the Cleveland indians. But we have to win 5 games instead of 4. And if we don't win 5, Detroit goes to the playoffs. Is anyone here really confident we will win more than 1 game against Tampa? If we win 5 of 7 vs the indians, we go 6-4 and make detroit go 7-3 to tie us. Then we are in the playoffs technically, and if we can't beat Detroit in a one game playoff, well they earned it. I don't think Detroit wins 7 of 10. I give them 6-4 at best. What I really think will happen is we will go 5-5, so will Detroit, and we will get in with the 1 game lead. It wouldn't be pretty, but history doesn't care about pretty. Ask the St. Louis Cardinals. Twice. Honestly, I can see us taking 3 of 4 from TB(I think we play them 4 times), simply because we seem to play up to our level of competition. I'd be more concerned if we had to play the Royals the rest of the year.

The end of Ozzie Guillen in Miami?
He'll be brought back in 10 years once his managerial career is over for good and people forget what an ass him and everyone in his family except for his wife is.

Technology catch-all thread
Played with the phone a bit yesterday. Seems like they took a step backwards. Screen is longer, but it's also less wider than the previous ones. The retina display doesn't make a difference to me on this phone. On the iPad 3, it does. There really is no wow factor with this phone at all. My buddy who bought it also stated the same thing. It just works. But so far, neither of us are impressed by anything on it, truth be told. Didn't know mapquest had an app though. That's pretty cool.

2012-2013 NBA thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 08:34 AM) It's really gonna be interesting to see how many do so when the multi-year penalties kick in. If the Lakers keep all their expensive guys and extend Howard, it's not unreasonable that they could have a $100 million luxury tax bill next year. Next year will be tough for them. I'd expect them to offload Gasol to a contender after this season. Nash expires after next year as well as Kobe IIRC. In fact, I think they have a ton of cap cleared after next year. It's a matter of them getting through next year.

3 game losing streaks.
It happens. Whenever you think we're about to finally lay down, this team surprises us. I bet we lose tonight, Detroit wins, the board self-implodes, and then tomorrow, the exact opposite happens.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 16, 2012 -> 10:51 PM) I liked it, it gave him a good heel win. The more he starts winning dirty, the better off his heel turn looks. And bringing in Heyman reinforces that. Lots of ground to be covered leading up to mania The thing is, he won't commit completely to being a heel character. He commits to just trying to be a badass. If he were smart, he wouldn't say s*** like "Stop saying I sold out." And he also would've been pompous enough to invent his own WWE Championship belt like he said he would. He should also try to cheat at all costs.

I thought the ending sucked, but then again, I'm also sick of CM Punk as champ. His run has gotten pretty dry.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 08:42 AM) You mention the burnt out, gas can bullpen, while your $17 million starter can't even finish the 6th inning? He forced them to get 10 outs, since he had already thrown 117 pitches. The offense deserves blame too, but excuse me if I would like to see Peavy outpitch the other team's starter in a clutch game. Um, he allowed his last batter on base and got pulled. I'm sure it wasn't his choice. And one reason why his pitch count was so high was because he struck out 9. I'm sure he wanted to finish the inning. Seriously, last night is not a good argument at all.

Awful Game
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 11, 2012 -> 11:30 PM) Sox have lost 5 straight starts by Peavy against the Tigers. He didn't pitch terrible against them tonight, but just once, you'd like to see him just dominate in a big game and not pitch just poorly enough to lose. What the hell? I won't say he dominated, but he leaned more towards that than he did choking. Choking is giving up 5 runs in less than 6 innings to play. He had a good game. Not great or awesome, but a good game. Choking? Did Sox fans forget what choking was? I'll give you examples, it was Esteban Loaiza complaining he didn't get enough run support when he was actually getting top 5 run support. It was Shingo Takatsu wetting the bed all the way back overseas, it was Javier Vazquez losing before the game even started.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 12, 2012 -> 05:29 AM) Not about him being bad or awful. Simply the fact that he failed ONCE AGAIN vs. the Tigers, in a "big game" situation. It wasn't exactly "must win" compared to the way the games Wed and/or Thursday will feel in comparison, but it definitely will be seen as one of the many many turning points in the 2nd half of the season when we could have buried the Tigers and let them off the hook and back into it. He gave up 3 runs? He struck out 9. He probably could've finished the inning. He made one bad pitch. You don't think our offense not being able to hit anymore when runners are aboard or the fact that no one is bunting on this team to take advantage of Cabrera's s***ty defense is a bigger reason? Or how about this burnt out, gas can bullpen? Poor execution thread starter.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 4, 2012 -> 09:19 AM) These 3 hour Raw shows are dreadful to attend. Yeah, I was there last night, and there was some boring ass moments. Divas match pretty much got no pops or heat. And it was a botch fest. The Kane and Daniel Bryan thing went on too long. And last, but not least, the love for Punk disgusts me. Seems like the guy could do no wrong in Chicago.

I'm never able to score tickets to any playoff event, but in the blackout game a few years back(last time they made the playoffs), I was able to score 6 tickets for about $50 each in the upper deck, no obstructed view.

Robin Ventura Named White Sox Manager
I don't think there was a ton of outrage at the hire, but moreso at the hiring process. Honestly, it was a very awful awful process that no one can defend. KW lucked out. And I'm a huge KW fan, but just terrible.

The Dark Knight Rises thread
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 05:15 PM) Its actually a pretty big continuity problem as the Narrows/El dont exist in Rises. As if the entire storyline of Begins just vanished. Well there was a lot less CGI used in the last two movies. Batman Begins was supposed to have such a dark overtone which was particularly grimy, and influenced by crime. Essentially, it was supposed to be ghetto Gotham as the crimelords didn't care for the city, nor the people in it. Wayne's father was trying to keep it alive. One of the symbols of that is the Narrows/EL and it being all tagged up. The Chicago Board of Trade was primarily used as Wayne's HQ along with Wayne's Manor(which was shot in England I believe) in Batman Begins. In the 2nd one, it's the Daley Center IIRC.

The Dark Knight Rises thread
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 01:14 PM) One thing I noticed about these three movies is that Gotham looks different in each movie. I don't know if that was done on purpose or what. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 01:16 PM) BB was filmed in England, TDK was filmed in Chicago, TDKR was in New York. Actually Batman Begins was shot primarily in both England and Chicago. They used Lower Wacker Drive alot as well the city's skyline, though they did a great job hiding the main building to make it seem like it was actually not Chicago. The Dark Knight was filmed primarily in Chicago. The Dark Knight rises was shot in Pittsburgh, New York, LA and I think a tiny bit in New Orleans. Reason being is that Chicago was charging more to use it as a backdrop and Nolan didn't like it considering he got a lot of people to follow him in droves and start using Chicago a ton more to the point where Chicago was interested in building movie studios on the west side.

2012 TV Thread
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 04:57 PM) I was going to say, threaten to leave, rinse repeat. I am about due to tell Comcast I am leaving and then poof, they "found" a coupon. Yep always works. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 05:10 PM) Unfortunately i'm in the middle of a 2 year contract, so they know that's an empty threat. Once I have to start paying "full price" for the package i'm sure i'll be calling them I'm only 6 months in on my 2 year deal. As long as you're not a problem customer(never pay your bill, you're still overdue), you shouldn't have a problem. Key word to tell them is that it's not about the money. You have to keep your household happy. Don't use an angry voice either. They're on your side. And also, don't settle for the first two deals. QUOTE (farmteam @ Jul 19, 2012 -> 05:50 PM) I'm a new DirecTV customer (got it July 3rd when I moved into a new place). However, they didn't tell me about the free Sunday Ticket deal for new customers. Might have been because I live in an apartment building, so I actually ordered through this company that bundles internet and TV for apartment buildings across the country, including ours. I still get bills directly from DirecTV, though. I'm pissed, I'll pay for Sunday Ticket if I have to (cheaper than going to bars the entire season), but it'd be nice to get it for free. I'd call them and tell them someone told you it was included, but you noticed you still haven't received your confirmation on that and you just want to make sure it's added on as you would have never signed with DirecTv otherwise. They probably won't give you a hard time at all.

The Dark Knight Rises thread
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 06:48 AM) I have to say, this was definitely the worse one of the 3. Bane is definitely a badass but after the movie dragged on for awhile the end was super rushed and yeah the ending was very predictable as soon as Alfred told Wayne his little dream. I'm going to respectfully disagree. I felt it was the best of the three, but people won't like it if they're expecting non-stop action. It's kind of like Casino Royale in that it pulls on your emotions and you don't expect it to do so, that much. The ending was long. Very long. And the ending was not predictable. You're basically taking guesses at how it ends. Some will be right, some will be wrong. I'd say, more people are wrong. I'll only say that much unless we get a spoiler thread going.

2012 TV Thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 11:56 AM) I was kind of pissed at DirecTV this morning. I called back in May to cancel the Sunday Ticket package for this upcoming season (I got it free as a new customer promotion last year, but they automatically subscribe you for the following years). So I look today and they charged me for, guess what? Sunday Ticket. I called, complained, they credited my account (I had already paid the bill) and they knocked $5 bucks off my base package for the next 6 months as an apology. So....i'm ok with them now. You should've been able to get the Sunday Ticket Maxx package free. I did after this Viacom ordeal. Plus $10 off a month for the next 2 years.
