Yeah, Turner really shouldn't complain. Weber wanted to get his stars in before secondary players. Who could blame him or anyone else really? If you had a shot at Rose and Gordon or Evan Turner, you would go after the two studs first.

Apparently, Ozzie told his son to resign and admits his son made a mistake, but they're fine now. per Mark Gonzales' twitter. -
Torii Hunter: Black Hispanics are "Impostors"
nitetrain8601 replied to knightni's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 20, 2010 -> 01:00 AM) What Hunter said was stupid, but black hispanics and black Americans are totally different culturally. That's the key here, culture. Even some black hispanics I know in life told me that they consider themselves hispanic because of their latin roots, before they consider themselves black. They're just more in-tuned with spanish culture and have little in common with African Americans, and doesn't relate to the racism that African Americans experience in the US, doesn't relate to African-American culture, etc etc etc. Even black hispanic's choice of food is different. Here's another example, it's not a good example, but think of the differences between Europeans and white Americans. Even though I'm white, I'm an American mutt and I would find it a lot more harder to find anything in common with a white European from Poland, or Germany, or Russia, that doesn't speak English, than it would for me to find things in common with an American of any race. Just because I'm white doesn't mean I'm gonna have anything in common with, or identify with some random white person from Europe that doesn't get American culture. Same thing with black hispanics and black Americans. The black hispanics doesn't identify or understand black American's culture as well. The thing is, whether you're from America or Polish. If you are a lighter shade of brown, you are considered white. When someone says you're white, they mean your skin color. Not talking about culture whatsoever. Even though the person who is Polish shares very little with you, you both are still white. As far as me, I'm Mexican. so I'm just brown. If someone compared me with an Indian and said, "you guys are brown." that would be correct. I wouldn't say, "Don't call those people brown. They're imposters." They're just as brown as I am. And last, but not least, "black" people are just a darker shade of brown. If you take an african american and a jamaican, they are all still black by their skin color. Heck, I don't understand why some people call Asians yellow. They're, "white" for the most part. It's silly to me. As far as Jackie Robinson he stands for much more than being the first African American to play the game which is why not only Black Americans should be able to wear 42. He kicked down the door so black people can play, so I can play, so "white people" can play amongst their friends. It made it okay for guys like Torrii to play with guys like Vladimir Guerrero and John Lackey. -
Oney Resigns; Tweets cause Sox soap opera

Ozney is actually a pretty good prospect from what I hear. As a person, he's just a normal type of guy. Definitely the most introverted of the three which is why you don't hear too much about him, but he just keeps it moving. Ozzie Jr is a worker pretty much. Oney is the most immature out of the three. If you didn't want to hear about the drug allegations, that's fine. But one of the guys was a roomie of his for half a semester. Then he moved downtown and then after his freshman year quit all together. There's nothing wrong with him quiting school or anything. My point is that Oney has a lot of growing up to do from all accounts. Hopefully he gets it together and understands why the Sox made the decision they did regarding the website and twitter. You can't put your employer on blast and definitely can't put their business out in the open. And I have also heard he's ruffled a lot of feathers down in the minors. I hope that doesn't stop us from potentially drafting Ozney if we were thinking about taking him in the draft one day. -

QUOTE (G&T @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 08:07 PM) I really doubt Ozzie is dumb enough to let that happen unless he's trying to get fired. They can't fire him for what his son says. And they would have to have undisputable proof that Ozzie is the one telling him things. For example, to cover Ozzie's butt, Oney could just throw in random wrong stuff as rumors and also mix it in with correct information. Also, JR would never fire Ozzie for bringing him that ring. If anything, he'd just be hurt by it. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 07:47 PM) Stepping back for a second, who in their right mind would be allowed to give away potential corporate trade secrets and still keep their jobs. Please raise your hands. Absolutely no one. And I think he gave out Joey Cora's phone number. It was definitely somebody's number he put on there.

It did hit a nerve per his twitter page. "They hit me where it hurts most and I gotta stay ready for whatever comes my way, like I always have." Honestly though, firing him isn't going to keep Oney from bumping his gums. Ozzie is probably going to tell him what's going on with the team and if anything, now that Oney is not employed by the White Sox, he's going to probably put even more of their business out there. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 04:04 AM) I could see them pushing the Magic as long as Noah is there to make sure Howard doesn't chase after Rose with a chainsaw. As for the Cavs...I have a feeling they could take them to 7, especially without Shaq there which would allow Noah to control the boards. I don't. In fact, Brad Miller does a better job on Howard because of his girth. Even then, the Bulls don't stand a chance against the Cavs or Magic. Heck, add the Celtics and Hawks. And yes, I've seen the Celtics play recently. -
Torii Hunter: Black Hispanics are "Impostors"
nitetrain8601 replied to knightni's topic in The Diamond Club
Gosh darnit, I'm black american and Jackie Robinson can only be celebrated by myself and other black americans. If you're black and from a Latin country, you don't count as a black man. Same with you Jamaicans! Honestly, Torrii, two weeks later, still sounds like an idiot. -
C AJ Pierzynski (Do I have to remind you why?) 1B Paul Konerko (by default) 2B Alexei Ramirez (Sexy Alexei brought us to the playoffs the last time we made it) 3B Joe Crede (default) SS Alexei Ramirez(yes, I did it) RF Magglio Ordonez(never had a bad year with us; just left on bad terms) LF Carlos Lee (very good) CF Scott Podsednik (what? I can't choose him. Fine, I choose rolling plastic bag in CF between 2000-2004) DH - Franklin James Thomas (I threw in the James cause it sounds important)

I don't know why they won't give DJ Moore a shot who would probably be equally as good as Jennings. -
I have simmed a couple of times. What I've noticed. I can't hit a weak slider or changeup, but if a slider has some serious bite, I can knock it out of the park, opposite field almost every time. After ending my first year in AA(which I got called up to AAA, back down to AA, then back up to AAA) the only team to offer me a contract was my current team, the Tigers for a 1 year 80,000 deal. That's wack! Now, I'm just barely meeting my goals, and then dumping all my resources into contact and power. Quick question, why is it that my team wants me to work on hitting lefties more than righties even though my contact and power are 8 points higher(and counting) than hitting righties. Also, it sucks that I put 1B as my second position because now the Tigers are keeping me there at the AAA level even though I'm a better fielder at 3B. Also I still can't keep up for the most part with AAA pitching.
-
Wow, facing AAA pitching is fkn hard. Every guy I face has +95mph fastball with a ++ breaking pitch.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 07:52 PM) I know what you mean. I don't expect to dominate every single outing, but these bad stretches just seem so forced by the AI. Anyway, I started a 2nd RTTS as a 1B/3B. Playing pretty well so far. It's actually helped me improved my hitting and defense. I'm actually a 3B/1B

Man, how could you diss Donny like that. Any player I get a chance to have an autograph from is a welcomed opp. You should never say no. I remember even getting Rick Brunson autograph one time.

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) Minus sexy Mary Louise Parker. Except her nose makes her ugly. What an idiot the guy was for burning the unusable parts through the fireplace. That's the only reason they got caught.

After taking the batting tips on the last page My average has risen back up over .080 points. I bottomed out at around .236 average. In fact, in my last 20 games prior, I was batting .176 with 0 HR's, 8 RBI's an OBP of .179 and I purely stunk up the joint. I went from a #4 hitter to a #9 hitter, then eventually benched. I finally got a hang of the tips though, and I have risen back to greatness. My batting average is around .320 after 10 games. In the past 5 games, I have an average of .750 and I have a 10 game hitting streak going. Last night, in a loss, I had an awesome moment. Coach gave me a day off, but I came up to pinch hit in the 9th, down 3 runs with a man on first and third and 2 outs. First pitch, low fastball I lifted for a moon shot down the right field line, just missing the foul pole. It was Frank Thomas vs the Yankees in old Yankee Stadium-esqe. I've never ever ever hit a homerun that high or that far. Anyway, I got promoted as Clete Thomas got called up to the big leagues. Regardless, if he gets called back down, he's going to have to DH. Unfortunately, I still play for the Tigers organazation, even after complaining about team chemistry, and asking for a trade.

Torii Hunter: Black Hispanics are "Impostors"
nitetrain8601 replied to knightni's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 05:52 PM) He was clumsy as hell in how he said it but it's true, they are the same color and probably descended from near the same place, but an Afro-Cuban or black Dominican is totally different culturally than a black person that grew up in the United States. Juan Uribe might look like he grew up in Englewood, but he wouldn't identify with them at all. Possibly, but he shouldn't have called Latinos imposter blacks. That's a huge mistake. It would've been better if he stated, they're trying to market and generalize the african americans with latinos when we're all our own players with our own history. Instead, he talks about how Latinos are imposters, how even though they're black, they're really not black. Last but not least, there is no such thing as a black person that I have met. Everyone's a shade of brown. -
Torii Hunter: Black Hispanics are "Impostors"
nitetrain8601 replied to knightni's topic in The Diamond Club
Torii is pretty dumb for this and I like him less. First about the whole white team wearing #42 for Jackie Robinson. That's more a celebration of a breaking down of barriers. They're celebrating equality for all colors. What Torii said then sounds like "Yeah, only good black players should be wearing that number. White players shouldn't. I don't support white people supporting a black historical moment." And yes, it's pretty much that simple. Now as far as the Latino's not being black. What color are they? You're telling me Alexei Ramirez isn't black? He's toastier than you are Mr. Hunter. David Ortiz is black. What makes a player Latino and what makes a player black? Is he saying black people can only be from certain places like Jamaica, Africa and America because they act different? Torrii is a very short-sighted person. -
BTW, I know Citibank is going to start charging a maintenence fee if you have less than $1000.00 in your checking account. They no longer have free checking otherwise unless you're a student.

Usually within the same bank, the transfer is instantaneous. Bank to Bank transfers can very. Usually they take 3-5 business days. Usually it's better to write yourself a check or to perform a wire transfer(though they cost money).

QUOTE (kev211 @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) Walt was never really built into anything huge just that he's special or something. I don't really get why people feel robbed of dharma we just got an entire season of them last season. In what way was he special? And we got a small bit of information on Dharma. We know they don't like the Others, took over a big part of the land for scientific research and that's it. Just because Sawyer & Co. were wearing Dharma jumpsuits the whole season doesn't mean much at all.
-
QUOTE (kev211 @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 06:08 PM) They obviously write the episodes and figure out what the main plot of each season is as they go along, but I believe and still believe they had a master plan as the series went a long. Once they saw how great Emerson was they probably realized how great of a leader of the others he would be and wrote him in to be that. I doubt they just magically decided to have a leader of the others, and probably had plans for that role and decided that Michael Emerson would be perfect in it. Either way I don't really understand why people get upset if the writers make it up as they go a long, what show on TV isn't written that way? The show is still awesome weather they made up everything 2 days ago or 6 years ago. Can't wait for the Ben centric tonight, Ben's episodes are always the best. The only part I do mind is that they have huge holes that they have seemed to ignore. Dharma was built up to being something huge, and then it's ignored. Walt was built into something huge(from what I heard, I only watched Season 1, hated the show because it was so damn slow and then returned back for Season 4 and 5), and he's gone completely ignored. Maybe everything will eventually still tie in. If not, the writers failed somewhat. I know not every question will get answered. But I think the ones that hyped up, should be.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 9, 2010 -> 02:48 PM) Long time Lost fan, watched and enjoyed every season. This one is terrible, sorry but it is. Introducing new characters for seemingly no reason, and completely taking one of the best bad guys on TV in Ben and basically making him a non-story. Sorry, but this season is poorly written and IMO making the show hard to watch. In the grand scheme of things, I agree. It's been pretty bad. Overall, I liked the past two episodes.
